Most of us "older" guys would prefer

I'm well over 50... so I guess I qualify. I prefer revolvers. Probably because I spent the bulk of my L/E career carrying one. Having successfully defended myself on several occasion's with a revolver probably has a lot to do with it. While growing up in NYC I watched cowboy movies all the time.... so maybe i'm a buckaroo at heart. And what self respecting cowboy, or villian for that matter would carry a plastic autoloader? (just kidding) As some others have mentioned... a revolver just feels right to me.

Now I do own one or two... well.... maybe a few Auto's. When my department authorized auto pistols... I had to have one.. I got a Glock.
And me being an idiot I liked the glocks because they are almost idiot proof. Today I own... 4. two G19's, and two G23's. Now what kind of a gun nut would I be without at least one 1911, so I have two :D a rock island that I swear by, and a springfield safe queen.

You can tell I'm well over 50 because I cant post without rambling on...
But Yes I'm a revolver guy... And proud of it.

I use semi's for "social occasions" (CCW & HD), but I all ways hunt with revolvers. Like most of the others, have several of both. My preferences run to Colt, Sig, and Browning (.22) autos and S&W revolvers, although my .357's are Colts.

Closer to 70 than 60, and prefer autos to revolvers. Have 'em both, but tend to use autos more. On the other hand, my carry gun is often a Model 60, so go figure.

I'm 57 and I suppose I'd have to admit to being on the fence here. My HD guns are both 357 revolvers. My 3 gun carry rotation is two autos and a revolver. If forced to choose between my favorite auto and my favorite revolver, I'd have a hard time deciding. That's why I have both. ;)

Newly 56. +1 revolvers as a general preference. Single action Rugers, Colts and clones recreationally, D/A Smith 65 3" (LS) "daily" all-duty carry, .32 H&R Mag Airweight as BUG or when otherwise travel/"light footin' it" and CCW when so enabled. Daewoo .40 Auto SD/HD in combo with the Smith K. No plastic (yet) though hi cap XD/PX/CZ 9 or 40 mildly intrigue. Admit a hankerin' to dip my toes at least once in the "quality" semi-custom (TRP/DW Bob-Valor/EB etc) 1911 world before it's all over. One of those "everyone should have at least one around/sometime" things like a nice Smith K or Colt/USFA SAA--or Win 94!

I'm comfortable with both designs though prefer a revolver. Primary carry revolver is a K frame S&W Model 66 367 Magnum 4" with Pachmyr grips, a DA trigger job and a bobbed hammer spur carried in a strong side inside the waistband holster Mexican Style. Primary semi is a hand built 1911 carried locked and cocked in a thumb break strong side high ride holster. If not carrying either, which is rare, I carry a S&W 38 Special 2 inch with a bobbed hammer and a DA trigger job in my strong side front pocket with no holster.

There are some interesting FBI statistics that shed a little light on the effectiveness of the two designs when used in an actual gunfight. Revolvers hit their target 2 out of 6 times and semi autos less than 1 out of every 10,000.

The natural tendency in armed combat until training kicks in and a little experience is gained in that environment, is to focus on the threat. This leads to tunnel vision, loss of situational awareness, and most importantly, the shooter doesn't acquire the front sight.

I think that the higher probability to hit a target in combat with a revolver has to do with the inherent pointability of the design.

58 years old here,,,

I prefer revolvers,,,
It's probably because of my upbringing.

All of my TV & Movie hero's carried revolvers of one type or another,,,
I love the noir detectives who always shot their snubbie revolvers from the hip.

And they never missed!

Seriously though,,,
I just love the feel of the mechanism,,,
I own a couple of semi's and like them well enough,,,
I just don't look at them as a thing of beauty like my revolvers.

just turning 50...

I tend to shoot revolvers better... I carry revolvers much much more often than semi autos, although if I'm heading inner city, there is nothing more comforting than my full sized Witness in 10mm...

... but as a reloader, I like revolvers better, because like ONEOUNCELOAD... I hate picking up brass :)

Well past 50 (and 60 for that matter) and I prefer semi-autos. My 1911 .45s would be my favorites followed closely by my 9mms. My revolvers get significantly less time at the range then my semi-autos.

Semi

63 and own more semi-autos than revolvers. I shoot the semis more frequently also. Carry - a Glock 36. Hunting - a Ruger Blackhawk .44 (or a T/C Contender).
A few of the revolvers are really curiosities in any case - a Nagant pistol, a Webley Mk.IV, a little .32 Short Bulldog.

I'm an old fart. Used to be exclusively wheel guns and I still own, shoot and like them a lot. EXCLUSIVELY for hunting handguns (.44 & .454).

HOWEVER, I've gotten well into semiauto's, especially the 1911, my favorite platform. I shoot WAY more 1911's than anything else now.

Each has its place and each has its positive points. Each of us has our own expectation and preferences. Like the Ford and Chevy argument.

56, and I guess I'm going full circle now. I started off with more revolvers, caught the 1911 bug in the service and have a bunch of .45s and other autos. Got about 10 revolvers, but those have been growing lately.

They will probably gain more on the autos now since the "wish list" at present only has wheelies on it. Looking for a H&R 999 and a .45acp revolver. Probably another S&W, already have a .44 mag. and 45 colt. Bottom line is, I like em' all...still looking for a revolver like I watched my heros in the TV shows use....you know, those six shooters that fired 20 times before needing reloading? Those are kinda hard to find now days.;)

I'm 51 and for pure shooting pleasure, I prefer revolvers. For CCW as well as they are more instinctive for me to operate. But for home defense I prefer a Semi for their high capacity.
I also like revolvers for their ability to use wide varieties of ammunition, which is even more important when hand loading ammuntion as the specs are more forgiving.

i am 50 something. revolvers have 3 purposes for me.
big caliber, big revolver for hunting or target shooting.
small snub nose 38's or 357's for cc.
saa cowboy gun in 45, most fun you can have with a holster on.

i carry my snub nose revolvers on occasion for cc.

my favorite guns are semi autos though.
i have a half dozen semi autos for cc compared to 2 snubbie revolvers.
my high cap semis are more practical for home defense.
and of course there are my 1911's...nuff said :)

i carry a semi auto for cc 9 out of 10 times.

I hate it when youngsters under 50 post on a thread that they have no business being in. That’s what’s wrong with the youth of today…NO impulse control! ;)

I’m in my 50’s, prefer semi-autos, have no revolvers and am indifferent to steel or polymer firearms as long as they’re well made.

My number one favorite handgun is a semi-auto. Two and three are revolvers. Four is a semi-auto and everything else is tied for fifth.
My least favorite handgun by a long shot was a semi-auto.
