Most of us "older" guys would prefer

shooting a revolver, most of the ones I know anyway and although I do own auto's my ratio is 2 revolvers to 1 auto.
I would like to hear if you are over 50 ...do you prefer and auto or revolver?
To me , older Colts (diamondbacks, pythons etc) are more like a work of art.
In keeping to inline with older aging baby boomer my fav auto is a Colt 1911.
I dont own any plastic guns and IMHO the finest auto is a SIG (besides Colt 1991's)....which i own 2.
I have 9 revolvers and 4 autos.

I'm not even 30 yet and I prefer revolvers to semi-auto's. I currently own 2 of each, but I would probably drop $1500 or more on a Freedom Arms long before I would put down similar money on a 1911 or other semi-auto. I just think they have more personality and character to them for some reason.

I'm 57, and I'm not sure if age has anything to do with it but I prefer revolvers. My everyday carry gun is a revolver, and I definitely consider my self "old school". My first "plastic" gun is my XD40 service, which a truly sweet pistol, but I still always grab my Rossi 462 first.

Well, I'm NOT an older guy...28 actually. I CCW with a Glock 19, and sometimes a Kel-Tec P3AT.

But of late, I'm getting more fascinated by revolvers. I was window-shopping for a 'highcap' revolver the other night, a 7-shooter. Handled a Smith 686, and an 8-shot 627. Something just felt "right" when I wrapped my hands around the grips.

This could just be the progression of my interest in guns, though, as my interest has always FAR outpaced my budget. I've never fired a 1911. I fired a SAA clone maybe twice, a Ruger .22. I currently don't own ANY revolvers, though I got started with a Taurus Model 94. I also don't own any handguns bigger than 9mm, so I'm also filling my "handcannon" interest as well.

I saw in a thread here today that quite a few people are comfy with the idea of carrying 5-shot J-Frames as their primary CCW guns. Since I sometimes carry the P3AT as my primary (often without a reload, I confess :o ) I suppose I could live with a J-frame and a speedloader or speed strip or two...)

Now, I KNOW people in the over-50 age bracket (and those in that general vicinity...)

My Dad has NEVER trusted autos, for fear that they all have hair triggers and will "go off" if you carry them. I know another relative who's a bit younger who has the same bias against them. I wonder if that's common - or just a showing that they've seen and handled too many "Saturday Night Specials" in their time?

I'm 51 with 3 autos and 6 revolvers. Coincidence? Probably not, but I've never really warmed up to the 1911. I have one plastic gun, becauise I got a deal I couldn't refuse. It is a Sigma .40, while my other 2 autos are a Sig P226 Equinox in .40 cal, and an old Ruger MkI standard. I love all 3 of them, but the Sig is the only one that I love as much as my revolvers. My next gun is probably going to be an LCR, so I'm not totally old school.

Be safe, but have fun.

I am 69.

I prefer semi's, no special reason other than I just like semi's. My present daily carry is a Glock G36 (.45ACP). But I also carry revolvers like my Smith 36, Colt det. special, and Ruger Speed Six at times.

My other carry semi is a Springfield XD9. I have other semi's & revolvers, but they are not for CCW.

When it comes to fun of sending a lot of rounds down range, I like my Ruger P90 & Colt 1911 best.

je 53 ans

And almost 54, and I can still use autoloaders with full-power .45ACP loads. BUT, I also use (and CCW) a S&W M629 .44 magnum as well as a near twin &W M586, where both revolvers have 6-inch barrels.

Like both, am over 50, but like revolvers cause I HATE bending over to retrieve my brass......:D

IMO the trigger of a S&W in single action is the smoothest trigger

which one........

I'm 79. Don't shoot the S&W 29 anymore, but all the others still work for me. 22, 380, 38, 9mm and 45. Of course, other then the 22, I re-load all my pistol cartridges.........that is a big difference on how much one can shoot.
I feel if you can pick it up, shoot it.................

I'm in my mid-50s, and also really appreciate nicely finished older revolvers. They have a certain style about them. I own 3 of them, and enjoy shooting them and carrying them legally either in cities or wilderness.

For gunfighting, however, (law enforcement or otherwise) I believe the high capacity, magazine-fed (more rapidly reloadable) semi-automatic pistols offer an advantage over revolvers, generally speaking.

I'm aware that there are revolver guys who are blazingly fast, but in general, something like a Para-Ordnance P-14 offers more than twice as many rounds in the magazine as a 6-shot revolver, and with a second magazine nearly four times as many rounds. If I were suddenly facing multiple adversaries in a lethal encounter, this type of semi-automatic pistol might offer a significant tactical advantage over a 6-shot revolver.

Handguns are like tools in a toolbox, and IMO its wise to select which tool you need based on the job...the fact that I enjoy my revolvers notwithstanding!

FWIW.

Grip

One problem I do have with semi's, I have a hand injury to my left hand that gives me some problems in gripping thin slides. Particularly true if the slide is thin with poor serrations in the gripping area. I have no problems with 1911's or some polymer frames like XD & Glock. My best for gripping is my P90. Thick slide and it has the slide mount safety lever that is great for gripping.

Having said that, I have yet to find a semi that I could not operate, just some that take more effort gripping.

Well into the fifties and prefer semi-autos. Mostly Glocks in .40, 9mm and now .357 SIG. Also my 1911 and Ruger .22LR.

I like revolvers, especially the .44 mag, but most of my time is spent with what I rely on for self defense.

At age 63, I would prefer a couple of 22 year olds. Oh wait, this is about guns.
Almost forgot. I am a semi-auto guy. I have about 40 of them, mostly in .45 and mostly 1911's. I own 4 revolvers: .38 Colt Detective Spcl., .22 S & W target revolver, .357 Wesson Arms, and a NAA .22 magnum.

I was issued a Colt .45 in the Army, liked it. My first gun purchase after I was a civilian again was a Colt .45 and it just seemed to go in that direction ever since.

I'm 62, and I prefer autos, specifically 1911s, BHPs and the H&K P7M8. The thing is that I love a good revolver, and have a number of them, but I shoot the auto-loaders better.

57.

Prefer semi-autos for most purposes.

I agree that the Colt Python is close to a work of art. Had one for a while and traded it for a Colt Gold Cup.

I do have many revolvers from 22 rimfire, .38spl, .357 Rem. Mag., .41 Mag, .44 spl, .44 mag, and 45 Colt. I think the Freedom Arms .454 Casull that I have is finely crafted, and fun to shoot.

I'm 60 and I like both wheelies and SA's, however for carry it's always a semi auto. Reason?... I like the higher ammo capacity. I'm hoping I never need it but if the day ever comes I want plenty of firepower.

almost 40...

two 1911's...Kimber cdpII ultra and Colt Night Defender...

four smiths ...36 , 642, 65-3 3" , 686 no dash
