Mossberg 464 SPX - Nearly speechless...

I got one

I bought the 30-30 without the flash suppressor.
I guess some people just don't like the look. I personally think its a sweet weapon. alot of people on this post are just band wagon riders.

Personally I think people should think for themselves rather than do what the mob does. None of you have even fired the thing and only care it looks "odd" for a lever action!!

Gun is super comfortable. super accurate, fits my shoulder, my 12 yr old's and my wife's just right with the adjustable stock. fiber optic sites are perfect fit.
Though I will admit, I won't be getting the 22 only because they priced it out to much.

Please have fun complaining about nothing you know about! ;)

Palynth -

Where did you find it, how much did it cost, and how long is it without the flash hider?

Nothing we know about?
I know I find it hideous and repulsive. That's enough.

If it works for you, that's fine.
But, don't tell us that we're all band wagon riders, just because we haven't shot one. This isn't a new cartridge we're talking abut. It's just a tacticool assemblage of a levergun, chambered in a standard cartridge.

We have our opinions. You have yours.
There's no reason to throw insults out, just because you disagree with the majority of posters in this thread.

I am relieved to see that someone actually bought one of these and enjoys it.

The next best thing I can say is "At least they didn't do that to a Winchester."

I don't know about you, but I know all about my own opinions, and since my opinion is all I was giving, you can bet your butt I know what I'm talking about.

I think you will find that the comments on this thread focus on the looks of the rifle. I don't see anywhere that someone said it is low quality or inaccurate without having checked it out first. We were just saying that it looks ridiculous, and, in my opinion, it still does and always will.

No need to spew venom about things that were not even being said.

Venom!? LOL

I'm in Oregon. I bought it from Wild Bill's Guns in a small town called Molalla.
Its a 20 inch barrel but with the 6 slot extended stock, the overall length will vary and I paid about $420 for it with a 10 dollar background check it was in my hands about 5 minutes after I paid for it.

LOL I thought my smiley face would make people laugh, not get defensive! I meant, if you have never put this rifle to your shoulder, then you shouldn't talk bad about it. I thought its what a gun can do, not how cool it looks. its beyond comfortable butt stock. I am a huge fan of any lever action, and I'm military so I like my tactical. put them together and I'm a happy camper.

Pretty sure more people will get defensive and complain about what I said but luckily were American's and have the right to bitch! :D

Get what you like and don't get it if you don't want it. I think it makes sense, not as a tactical rifle, but as a woods gun. I like Mossberg and think they are doing just fine. For a current production, made in the USA .30-30, I would rather have the 464 than the Rem/Marlin 336. Hopefull Rem/Marlin will get their lever actions in order as they were nice guns.

Let's face it, Mossberg struck out with that 'tacticool' monstrosity! Butt Fugly is what it is.

However, Mossberg's more traditional 464 leverguns have been sorted out and actually are quite nice. After eyeballing their walnut stock pistol grip model for a long time and waiting until I started to hear favorable reviews, I broke down and got one a few months back. I've only run about 80 rds through it but to be honest, I'm rather impressed with it. Yes, like the Winchesters, it's action is a bit stiff even after dry cycling it a few hundred times. I use spray silicone lubricant on it and that helps but I think only use will smooth it out. I tried to find how to take it apart to stone the parts but can't find anything yet.

Now the good news. Stock out of the box it's ready to go. It's tight, with well fitting parts that all look well manufactured. I've not had a single failure of any kind, no feeding, firing, or ejecting issues. The walnut pistol grip stock is fitted well to the steel and has a nice straight grain, just the way I like it. It has cut checkering, not stamped, that is cut sharp and crisp. The sights appear to be Marbles; adjustable rear and bead front and the sucker is dead nuts on at 100 yds. Further, it holds a great group for a levergun, just under 2" at 100 yds using plain old Win 150grn Power Point commercial ammo.

The comb drop is prefect for the stock sights as it comes up to the shoulder and you're right on with them. The rubber butt pad is fine for easing the sharpness of a 30-30's recoil which is not bad but a bit more than the bullet's performance would suggest. But hey, it's an all American 30-30 levergun and everyone just has to have a 30-30 in their stable. And, this is one of a very, very few firearms that I like without any changes, not any 'tweaks' or add-ons, just go shoot it straight out of the box. It doesn't need sights, it doesn't need a trigger job, it's just fine the way it's shipped from the factory.

I like the Marbles sights:
