M&P 9 with full APEX trigger joband night sights or HK VP9?

Yay for Mike! Sorry that your restricted to those funny looking 10 round mags... Not that I'm one to talk, with Colorado following close behind restricting us to 15 round mags... Yes folks... the Rocky Mountains have fallen victim to the influence of mass fear and political agendas!

That's a nice looking "range kit" much nicer than what they were giving away with the XD back when I bought mine.

Looks I lot like the one I got... but for the odd reduced capacity magazines. The holster it comes with is decent. Its a belt loop type, outside the waistband.

I wanted the FDE two tone kit, but Cabelas is the only seller, and they were out. FDE frame, and black slide and backstraps.

I compromised and got the FDE backstraps.

You will be happy with the M&P, take it to the range and give it a try stock... then put in the Apex kit and feel the difference.

Yeah I've dry fired it a few times already. The trigger feel with 10.5lb Mass compliant spring is awful. I'm sure Apex kit will be a huge improvement.

Well, I went to to range last night.

I have put 50 quick rounds through without a single hiccup.

One thing I did notice is that sometimes it was ejecting brass almost straight back at my right shoulder. Any ideas?

Trigger pull is very heavy and the triggee is still gritty as expected. Gave it to my girlfriend for a few shots and she was having a hard time pressing it hard enough to fire lol.

Otherwise, it seems to be an enjoyable gun to shoot.

Get that Apex kit. :D

As for ejection, make sure you have a firm grip on the gun. Limp wristing can result in rearwards ejection. Also, I've often seen people say guns eject to their faces when the brass is actually bouncing off of the wall the stall and back at them. Rule that out as well.

nice gun.

I installed the apex fss poly trigger kit and love the gun even more. very crisp and overtravel is gone. breaking around 4-5lb
doing it myself was nerve wracking being my first trigger kit install but no problem in the end

tips when installing
beyond the youtube videos
1. don't lose the retaining pin on the front trigger block for the takedown lever, it does fall out when manipulating the block back onto the frame

2. pay attention to the orientation of the trigger spring in relation to the trigger bar when removing it out of the frame. (meaning does it clip in from above or below) I think the spring should clip into the hole on the trigger bar from above and rest on top of the bar when lining up the hole for the trigger pin(the one the yellow dowel takes the place of)

3. also like in the videos, the direction of the yellow dowel pin makes a difference the rounded end should point down, away from the direction you hit the trigger pin in, so the the trigger spring won't pop out. and hit it fairly fast.

enjoy!

I don't know that I prefer it overall, but the M&P with a full Apex kit with Apex trigger certainly rivals the VP9 for trigger quality.

My M&P CORE with Apex FSS (aluminum trigger) and KKM barrel is my easiest gun to target shot. My Sig X-Five is a tack driver, but not as easy to shoot.

My wife also favors her M&P FS9 with FSS & KKM add ons.

The VP9 has a nice trigger... I couldn't say it's better than an Apex kit in an M&P though.

The VP9 feels a little more solid overall to me, but there is a fairly significant price difference for a similar setup.

I like my M&P a lot, I wouldn't trade my M&P... But I plan on getting a VP9 sometime.

Not really sure I've mostly thought the M&P was a dog other than reading so many threads where so many people suggested it was such a great pistol after replacing the barrel and the hammer/sear.

Remember this is the internet. Those with negative experiences are far more likely to voice their complaints than those who are completely happy. If I believed everything I read on the forums then a 1911 is death sentence in terms of reliability, all Glocks want to make you blind with spent brass, and current production SIGs are best used as scrap metal.

The M&P did have accuracy problems in the beginning, though they have revised the barrel design twice now and most reports are positive. There is no hammer in an M&P or any striker fired pistol, but S&W did redesign the sear to be very similar to that of APEX to improve the trigger break and reset feel. That's another notion to keep in mind: a good manufacturer evolves their designs with time. One person's experience in the past may not be indicative of the current state.

In the end... The OP will be very happy with his M&P when he gets an apex kit installed.

I know I am.

OP... I suggest you use the heavier springs that come with the kit. You will get a pull around 5.5lb... Plus or minus a bit of course.

personally speaking from an aesthetics point of view. the only problem I have with the M&P is the trigger and a lot of the guys that go with apex swear by them. I still have yet to lay my hands on a real VP9 or a M&P that has the apex trigger in it so this is all going to be hearsay and educated guessing but I would probably go with the S&W. the price would be the same despite you having to take the time to have the gun worked on over the HK which would be straight from the box, however, I do believe that the VP9 may turn out to be a handgun built by a company that is becoming content with riding on its laurels and selling based on its reputation. a lot of the fit/finish areas, do no reflect what many think of when they think HK. in addition some parts are pinned in place where other manufacturers mold them in with the plastic. personally, I think this is the first sign of HK moving to cheaper manufacturing processes. I would rather not be one of their guinea pigs, I'd take the S&W.

flame suit on.:D

Examples?

My VP9 is every bit equal in fit and finish to my HK45's or USP's.

^^^ I second this. My VP9 is just as nice as my P30S or 45c. The fit and finish of the VP9 is no different than any other Hk pistol currently being produced.
