M&P 9 with full APEX trigger joband night sights or HK VP9?

We kind of went off on a tangent here, but the OP may find some inspiration in it.

We did, but I think it's still pretty on-topic of the M&P.

If I remember correctly, I think I was the one who convinced you to try the Apex kit in your M&P as well. So I'm glad it worked out so well for you. It really is awesome.

To me, that's kind of how the VP9 trigger is and that's why I like it(the FSS kit). The VP9 trigger breaks much farther forward than most other striker guns.

All the responses are definitely relevant guys. I appreciate the feedback. I'm thinking I'm going to pick up an M&P tomorrow instead of waiting for VP9.

I think it will be a good experience upgrading the trigger and the sights myself and learning about the gun at the same time.

I've already shot M&P at the range and it fit my hand like a glove. I've also shot the P30 and was a little more accurate with it but it didnt fit my hand quite as well.

I do think you are correct, you are the one who convinced me to try it.

Due to how the trigger is set up, I have mine set to break close to the back of the pull range.

I have about 3/16 to 1/4 inch take up, then the break, with less than 1/16 inch over travel. The trigger stops just forward of the over travel stop the stock trigger would rest on. I wanted some over travel to make sure there would be no issues if the geometries changed for some reason. Though the "candy cane" is set with zero gap, so a change is unlikely.

Pull measures in at 5.5lb, but is clean and feels lighter, but not overly so.

While some may not like the FSS for carry/defense... The setup I have makes me feel confident in the trigger for both function and safety. It's not dissimilar to triggers like the VP9, PPQ, and P320; all of which are considered good triggers and suitable for those roles.

Go with the FSS kit.

My #1 recommended sights are Trijicon HD.. but they are not under $100.

Under $100, the TruGlo TFO's are acceptable.

The FFS with polymer trigger is what I have. The trigger is said to be more comfortable than the aluminum version... And I would bet it feels the same on the break; as the trigger is plenty stiff and strong to avoid flex. It's also cheaper than the aluminum trigger kit.

Meprolight sights are just under $100, and they have models similar to trigicon, though trigicon does have options available that you can't get other places. Style and setup differences that I like, which makes them tempting despite the higher cost.

So go TFO if you want fiber optic for day with tritium at night.

Meprolight if you want standard three dot night sights, or different colors front and rear.

Go trigicon if you want some of the special setups they have.

Depends on how well you like fiber optic sights.

I have a little experience with FO, but not much, mostly on shotguns. They seem geared to quick acquisition over precision, but the same is true of three dot sights as well. FO is just easier to see than the standard dots.

The TFO's are certainly bright and easy to pick up. They aren't super precise, but they're precise enough for regular handgun practice while also providing a good night sight. They're crazy bright with good overhead lighting.

All this talk is reminding me about how I don't really care for my Glock 21sf. Maybe I need to get it sold and buy an M&P 45. Or an H&K USP Compact. But I bet their $200 promotion is over by now.

Anyone want to buy my 21sf? It's got exactly 55 rounds through it. Perfect in every way. Also has a brand new set of Truglo TFO tritium/fiber optic night sights, green front sight, yellow rear, installed by a shop. I haven't even shot the gun since having them installed. It also has a factory glock - connector and the trigger feels great. I don't care for the feel of the grip when shooting it, so I bought a Gen 4 21 that I like better with the medium back strap installed. I was seriously considering buying the necessary parts for it to shoot 45 super, but I'm not sure anymore. That's some real expensive ammo.

Anyway. Back to the op's question. I would chose the M&P based on my experience with them. But I've not shot the VP9, and our buddy Uncle Malice has a way of making any gun sound good! I trust his opinion though, and I bet the VP9 is a sweet gun. I might go with the VP9 just to have something different.

When I think about it... I don't care for the way the smaller caliber m&p's grips feel. I like the shape and fullness of the m&p 45's though. I have not held the VP9 but that might be the deciding factor for me.

I just learned of an update to the TFO sights... A second gen as it were.

Called TFX

They encapsulated the fiber optic to make it hold up to harsh solvents. The older model FO would melt when exposed to some solvents...

They put a white ring around the front FO to help make it stand out in contrast to the rear. Also, the front sight has been shortened a little to get just a bit more sight radius.

I seen them listed at a few sites for $100 with a quick google search...

Now those look interesting.

I may have to check them out. Maybe Glockmeister has them in stock. Maybe I'll swing by on my way home from work.

You guys kill me haha
