Lou Dobbs: Give it a rest, Mr. President

Percentage of facts unsupported in the previous post: 100%

So illegal aliens use no taxpayer funded services while they are here? I cant vouch for the numbers posted but to say that taxpayer money isnt being spent on them doesn't make sense.

What is the cost of an illegal alien that steals someone else's social security number and uses it in identity theft?

These numbers about costs of illegals are basically correct, but any time they are posted those in favor of open borders always find ways not to believe them. No problem for me. To each his own belief.

The point of my post is that numbers were being thrown out without any support. This is not good for anyone's argument. Nor should readers accept such numbers.

The very first number "Number of Illegal Aliens in the Country: 20,807,645" should be a HUGE red flag no matter what side you are on. How in the world can anyone pretend to have that level of precision?!?!?

The President didn't need the permission or funding from the Congress. The laws are already in place. The funds were there.

The borders could have been sealed, post 9-11, and the entire Congress would have applauded and funded whatever was deemed necessary. He didn't even try.

Unlawful aliens could have been imprisoned then deported and employers charged, again, post 9-11. Again, the Congress would have backed him 100%. He didn't even try.

This entire mess lays squarely in Bushes lap. Only because 9-11 proved that without border control, really bad things can happen.

This immigration bill was nothing more than pandering to the prospective new votes, by both sides of the aisle, and the heck with what Americans want or even whats best for America.

Nail....head....hit....squarely. :)

Under the current organization, there are approximately 15K employees of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) working in approximately 250 Headquarters and field offices around the world.

The budget for Border Protection alone for FY 2007 $7.84 billion. This includes an additional $458.9 million for 1,500 new Border Patrol agents and associated costs.

Also included in these costs are $50.8 million for the construction of permanent vehicle barriers in Western Arizona and $30 million to fund the land acquisition and construction of the San Diego Border Infrastructure System project that includes multiple fences, lighting, and patrol roads enabling quick enforcement response. Adds $100 million to expand purchases of critically needed border technology infrastructure between our Nation’s ports of entry.

The money, as I've said, is there. Implimentation is what is lacking.

I saw this yesterday in the Washington Post magazine - on the last page.

As I write this, it is almost 6 p.m., and my family is assembling around the TV, eagerly awaiting the start of CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight," our favorite comedy show.

Now, if you're thinking: "Hey, wait a minute, that's not a comedy show! That's a serious look at world affairs hosted by a dignified, award-winning journalist," then you either:

1) do not watch the show, or

2) are Lou Dobbs.

Lou used to be an actual newsman, but then, some years ago, he apparently realized that whenever he expressed outrage over illegal immigration or outsourcing of jobs -- hot-button issues among the xenophobically inclined -- his viewership climbed. Like a pigeon in a box who gets rewarded with a corn kernel every time he flaps a designated wing, Lou was soon just one big madly flapping right wing.

Before I began watching this show, I had no strong opinion about illegal immigration. Now, I'm in favor of not only granting illegal immigrants citizenship, but also of giving them each a fancy car and a semiautomatic weapon, if for no other reason than to watch "Lou Dobbs Tonight" and see if a man can literally explode from bluster.

Lou grew up in Texas, the son of a propane salesman, and if this sounds familiar, you are probably a fan of "King of the Hill," another really funny show. As you can see from the twinned images on this page, the physical resemblance between Lou and young Bobby Hill -- son of a Texas propane salesman -- is pretty dramatic. Hank Hill always looks at his son and says, "That boy ain't right."

I'm just saying.

"Lou Dobbs Tonight" can sneak up on you, like a pirate ship not flying its true colors. At first, it appears to be a normal talk show in a familiar format, with nicely dressed men and women in swivel chairs speaking in pleasant, professional altos and baritones. But then odd things begin to happen. A typical segment on "Lou Dobbs Tonight" includes an interview with some newsmaker who agrees with Lou entirely on every issue, so the conversations tend to go like this:

Lou: What in the world is wrong with these politicians who want to send manufacturing jobs to China? What are they, idiots?

Newsmaker: "Idiots" is too good a word for them, Lou. They're vomit sandwiches on whole wheat toast.

Lou: Vomit? At least vomit has nutrients in it! They're feces on an onion bagel!

Newsmaker: Feces? Feces is too good a . . .

If a charge is incendiary enough, Lou doesn't demand all that much by way of verification. Not long ago, his show suggested that illegal immigrants had recently caused nearly an eight-fold increase in leprosy here. Leprosy! That'll get your attention!

Unfortunately, this proved to be somewhat false, but only in the limited sense that illegal immigrants haven't caused a big rise in

leprosy in this country, inasmuch as the number of new cases has actually declined since 1988. Lou's source was a long-discredited report by a fulminating racist with no medical credentials. The woman, now deceased, also believed that most Latino male immigrants were child and/or nun molesters.

My favorite parts of "Lou Dobbs Tonight," however, are his polls. Like many TV shows, LDT has gone interactive, using the Web to instantly report his audience's views. The difference between this show and most others is that Lou's votes are never close. They reveal a startling unanimity of American opinion, always in agreement with Lou, usually by majorities of 95 percent or more. No one has gotten this kind of electoral support since Saddam Hussein.

How does such a thing happen? Lou's polls read like this:

Choice 1: I think we need to do something about illegal aliens with poor personal hygiene who run amok and rape decent American women.

Choice 2: I think it is good if illegal aliens with poor personal hygiene run amok and rape decent American women.

Okay, the show is starting now, and here's Lou. Hang on, I'll be back when it's over.

IT WAS A PRETTY TYPICAL SHOW. The main issue was the Senate's immigration reform bill, which had garnered surprisingly bipartisan support. But Lou hates this bill. He called it a "pathetic charade" and said that the senators who support it are "acting like clowns" and that their arguments are "just nuts." Then, to show his evenhandedness, he brought on both a Democrat and a Republican who oppose the bill.

Finally, his poll. Here's how Lou phrased the question: "Is a bad immigration bill better than no bill at all?"

Ninety-seven percent of the viewers decided a bad bill is . . . bad.

Lou Dobbs is an outstanding American. Without his voice of reason and truth we would be lost in a sea of lies from Washington.

I guess I missed that broadcast. Do you by chance chance have a transcript?

Yeah, when you are right you are right (or left). I just watched his interview with the head of La Raza. She sure agreed with Lou.

Thanks for letting us know how well Lou hits the mark.:p

Well, I admit that I don't know the REAL Lou Dobbs...but it IS a fact that as people age and time goes on, they can change their views on assorted issues.

I know I have...on a few. But the rest, VERY conservative views re: social, morality and RKBA issues, I've stood fast on for many years now as I believe them correct...even absolute.

So maybe Lou actually believes what he is saying about immigration.

Just sayin'...

madmag,

If she agreed with any anti-immigration views, SHE must be the two-faced individual.

Perhaps the La Raza people learned that they "outed" themselves a bit prematurely when they marched in anti-immigration protests waving the Mexican flag like the bunch of foreigners they are...the orders now probably are to "cool it" a bit so they can continue to push for the Reconquista but do it more covertly...i.e., don't enrage real Americans too much...it'd be much better to "surprise" them later.

I believe that's called satire.

The Korean shopkeepers likely still have those SKSs they used for defense back in the Watts riots.

Wrong again, this is satire.

I thought the MS13 gangs already had those, but if not then I think we should keep it American an issue M16's not SKS. Fancy cars...let see....do they still make Yugo's? A Yugo with spinners...thats the ticket.

Manedwolf,

Was that the Watts Riots or the Rodney King "Can't We All Just Get Along" Riots?

I think those shop-keepers should have shot lots more looters...not sure they even shot any.

Just one more and I guess I should give it a rest myself.

Many of us have different reasons to be critical of Bush. I know some are far left and just by nature would never support Bush. That's their right (no pun). I do believe there are a fairly large number like myself that are middle road Republicans and supported Bush. Now we feel let down. In fact our feelings at this time may even be stronger against Bush than others. Kinda of like when someone you support and trust let's you down...hurts more than when someone you expect to let you down. So, aside from Iraq my big issue with Bush is that I believe his not securing the border was not some oversight or missed opportunity. I believe Bush has not secured the border on purpose. I feel he has done so to hold securing the border as a bargaining chip for his immigration reform, and I resent that! He is simply not that naive. He knows full well that if he had moved necessary personal to secure our borders then no one....no one would have backed him down. Not the most liberal Senator would have said no to money to support our troops to secure our borders.

I have lived through a lot of Presidents. Starting with FDR. Well was too young to really remember him. They didn't let kindergarten kids vote. All of the tricks I have seen but never a President of either party basically refuse to secure this country in a time of need. So, that's the reason for my disappointment and anger.

There was just a news report that illegals are also deliberately setting fires to draw off agents and confuse border patrol outposts.

When are they going to call that sort of thing an "attack"?

As of now, if they attack the patrol agents and the agents fight back, the agents go to jail.

As of now, if they attack the patrol agents and the agents fight back, the agents go to jail.

1) Border guards should fight back.

2) National Guard should be armed. Not carrying empty rifles.

3) We need to stop being the only country in the world that is so sensitive about image it won't protect it's borders. Most don't give a hang what happens to us anyway.

First we are not allowed to secure the border, now federal officers can't even defend themselves when attacked.

I think there are a lot of us that are pissed (can I say that? don't want to violate rules) and ashamed about this situation.

I said I would give it a rest, but then I read about our border patrol being attacked.

I think GWB is avoiding the border issue like the plague because he is in the middle of the North American Union deal. I think he and President Fox have been plotting this Union for a long time. The only problem for George is that none of us agree with him.

As of now, if they attack the patrol agents and the agents fight back, the agents go to jail.

Please post a REAL example of this. Do not include any shooting where the agents are now in jail after attempting to cover up the existence of a shooting...
