Looking for a carry/home defense pistol

Browning Hi-Power or Sig are the only answers if you want a quality firearm.

Hogwash. Most models from major manufacturers function well and are accurate enough for defensive use.

Agreed. Sig and Browning aren't too bad, but not "the only" ones by a large margin.

I think I am leaning towards the storm compact but am not sure about its reliability as there just isn't much info out there about it.

The PX4 Storm is an excellent choice, whether in the compact or full size.

I've got the full size in 9mm, and it's my second favorite pistol. (The CZ SP-01 Tactical is my favorite.) The PX4 is accurate, soft-shooting, feels good in the hand, and has been 100% reliable from the very first magazine, and I've probably got 700 or more rounds through it.

Incidentally, the PX4 compact is completely ambidextrous as it has a slide lock on both sides. Just a side note for any lefties reading this.

Love my PX4. Full sized. I have about 2,000 rounds through it, and used it for my CCW test. Blew away the rest of the class.

Thanks, I think right now I am between the px4 compact and HK USP. I need to look at both side by side to see how they compare.

The main reason I want the safety is that this gun will sit on my nightstand and if I wake up I dont want to accidentally pull the trigger when I grab it. Currently I have my glock 26 on my nightstand but no round in the chamber for this reason.

You're storing it wrong Adam. It's virtually impossible to grab my home defense Glock by the trigger. :D

I always liked these pistols in the past (Jericho 941). They just felt great in my hand, but I don't own one.

P30 with the safety is actually a safety decocker so can be carried .....
-Cocked and locked
-hammer down(decocked) safety on
-hammer down (decocked) safety off
-cocked safety off (DONT DO THIS, JUST ILLUSTRATING FUNCTION OF LEVER/shooting position hammer back)

If you have a G26 that you otherwise like, you might consider adding an extended magazine and manual safety to it.

I am not a fan of extended mags. I have heard good things about the glock safety but since there are other choices out there like the MP with the safety, I would rather just get those if I choose to go the striker fired route.

I did end up going to a gun show today. No Berettas. No HKs, and one CZ sighting. Tons of MPs, Sigs, Glocks, and Taurus. I was again able to feel the CZ75 at the gun show and just don't like it.

I did see that Sig makes a version of the 2022 with a safety online that would meet my needs. I really want to get my hands on the HK USP, USP compact, and P30. My LGS store can get the HKs for $800-900. I just need to figure out how to see them. I may need to drive up to jacksonville, which is an hour away.

Wow you and the other 6 guys should start a club. :p

There are a ton of reasons not to like a CZ75 but you rarely hear of somebody not liking how they feel.

Eh, that's the beauty of the diversity of firearms available in most of the US - somewhere, someone makes the sidearm that fits you just right. I think Glocks feel like a brick in my hand. The Taurus Curve feels like a flaming brick covered in broken glass. :)

Interesting statement can you share why you would say that?

With manual safety, hicaps, I like:
CZ75 B SA ....well, scratch that
XD with safety
M&P with safety
Sig320 with Safety

My strong preference would be the CZ75. It is one of the most natural grips.

Can you explain? Which grips were on it? Was it a CZ?

I have felt the full size version of the CZ75 2x now. It just feels as heavy or heavier than the Beretta 92 and the sites seemed very tiny. I thought the beretta felt more balanced when I was able to hold them side by side so eliminated the CZ from my choices. I also think the Beretta looks better but that isn't really important to me at all. I am sure its a great gun, it just didn't do anything for me that the Beretta didn't and didn't feel as good in my hand.

Ohh that makes sense. Full size CZs are heavy and the lions share of all CZs have crappy sights.

The mid sized plastic/alloy CZs are much lighter......albeit with crappy sights. (P01, PCR, P07)

As I have been looking at guns I have been recording their specs/cost, which might be useful to others looking:

My biggest thing right now is do I get a full-size gun like the Beretta 92 and just use it for home defense and then get something more compact in the 12-15 rounds for larger carry? I am so back and forth. I like the idea of a home defense gun with a light/laser then something else for larger capacity carry.

If you think you are going to get the bug and buy multiple guns anyway get whatever you like first. A full size railed handgun will be lots of fun.

That being said if you are just looking for a weapon/tool and not a hobby then find a quality mid size (Glock 19ish sized) gun and call it a day. A gun such as this will easily transition from home to carry.

Glock 19
M&P Compact
HK P2000
CZ P01/P07/PCR
Beretta Storm or 92 compact
Etc. etc.

Any of them will make a fine do it all gun.

I tell people all the time - if you pick it up and it feels like a brick, it is probably not going to work very well for you. Not an expert at anything but getting in trouble, but that has seemed to work for me. adambomb, buy what fits you and works well for you. :)
cslinger, the PCR has some very nice sights. ;) Have you looked at the sights on the P-10C or P-07?

o

Have you looked at the sights on the P-10C or P-07?

I was able to look at the P01 yesterday and again just thought Beretta felt better. At this point I am basically trying to figure out if I want a dedicated home defense pistol and a double stack carry...or just one that fulfills both roles. If I were to buy a home defense pistol, it would be the beretta 92 and for double stack carry I am looking at MP20 compact and a few other similar to that. If I were to get one to fulfill both roles I am looking at the HK P30s or Sig p320 Compact. I have mostly eliminated most other guns at this point. I've been to about 7 shops and a gun show and gotten to see them all.

I finally made some decisions.

I have bought the Beretta 92FS as a dedicated home defense gun.

Over the next few weeks/months I am going to research double stacks for carry and am really interested in the new MP20 15 rounder that SW just announced. It seems the exact same size as the G19.

The FNS with a manual safety would be a great choice. You can conceal it easily and it makes for the perfect home defense pistol.

I would attach a picture of mine but the forum keeps saying the file size is too big (noob here).

Update:

My new 92 arrived 2 days ago. I cleaned it and spent a day learning to use the weapon as I was new to DA/SA; Ive always had either striker fired pistols or revolvers. Took it to the range today and put down 200 rounds without problems. Gun felt great considering I usually fire pocket sized guns. Very accurate at 25ft (farthest I tried). I plan to get some factory 17 rd mags but I finally have my home defense pistol!
