Knives. What do you cary?

On duty though, my knife has to be a little more defense oriented, so I've opted for a Cold Steel Ti Lite. A bit pricey, but it's incredibly tough, and incredibly sharp.

Capt. Charlie-- I'll take your word for it, but they're out of my price range. I looked them up, and $250 is certainly not cheap. I thought I was being a bit extravagant getting my Italian Stilleto at $80. I've got enough knives, so I doubt I'll be buying any more. Besides, I can always pull out the whomping-big meat cleaver! :)

Look further down the page. The Ti-Lites with the Zytel handles are considerably cheaper, and after comparing them side-by-side, I couldn't see any real advantage to titanium, especially with an almost $200. difference in price tags. At the time though, both models used AUS-8A stainless, and I just noted that they've changed the actual titanium model's blade to VG-1 stainless.

Buck 3 blade stockman. I keep 2 blades razor sharp and the third sharp but the edge on a much steeper angle so it doesn't dull as easy. If I need to strip a wire, cut cardboard, or heaver duty type of work I use that blade if I need a very sharp blade I have two others

Bucks customer service has over the years been as good as any company I have ever delt with.

I used to be an "El Cheapo" kinda guy.

And the price of good knives being as high as they are, I used to think "well, for that price I can get 10 of these cheap ones." The thing is, Chinese knock-offs and Swap Meet specials really don't last all that long, and quality knives do hold their edges better as well as offer more tensil strength.

When you stop thinking of your carry gun and/or knife as show pieces and start to think of them in terms of them being tools it's allot easier to justify getting a quality knife for everyday carry. Don't get me wrong, they WILL get beat up, but it will work for you a lot harder and better and a cheap copy.

A rarely seen in the sunshine Columbia River Knife and Tool M16 series rides the edge of my pocket, but lying directly below it is the indispensible Swiss Army Tinker series.

Three days out of five, that Swiss Army Tinker is out and doing something.

I just got a butterfly knife and learned how to twirl it and Its a blast.
It has a clip but I wouldnt carry it , Its just for fun.
All things concidered I still like the Ken Onion Kershaw's

EDC Rotation

1. Kershaw/Onion "Leek", AO, G10 / S30V

2. Gerber "Applegate/Fairbairn Mini-Covert" folder

3. Kershaw "Spec Bump", AO, G10 / S30V

4. Kershaw/Onion "Leek", AO, alum. handle

5. Outdoor Edge / Seki "Pocket Lite"

8 days out of 10, I carry the first one - the G10/S30V Leek. Often, I will often ALSO be wearing a neck knife - my SigTac "PitBull". Occasionally, I may ALSO wear a boot knife in the boot - either my Benchmade 140 "Nimravus" (Elishewitz M2HS model), or my CRKT /AG Russell "Sting".

And I always ALSO have on my keychain my Leatherman "P4 Squirt" M.T., which has a knife on it. In the woods or to the gun range, I will sometimes ALSO have a Gerber "Legend" M.T.

Schrade, for me.

I've carried a Schrade/Uncle Henry Stockman for several years. Does eveything I need, so far. Before that I carried a Purina Checkered Handle 3-blade, but when I found out what it was worth I retired it.

I have a Gerber with the "FAST" system. Boy is it quick and razor sharp. There is however no type of indication of what type of metal the blade is made out of. It works just fine however. If I thoguh I was going to do some trench warefare, Im sure I'd have something more massive like some of you. :barf:

Ian2005,

Hey, you live in Texas, where everything is big. The legal limit is 5.5 you need something bigger!

Just kidding, I find the bigger knives harder to use for every day task. My Spyderco Military is really to big. I often use my Delica instead.

Oh I know - lol. Im just having fun. The one guy that carry's 3 knife's on him and has 3 more in his truck, well that's a little loco. :-)

I have two kershaw ken onions. A leek with a half serrated half straight blade, and a scallion with a straight blade.

When I hike/camp/fish/hunt or in case of SHTF, i'm bringing the good ol KA-BAR. the finest fighting knife ever made.

I've got a Ka-bar and i like it pretty good. not the best sharpening knife I've ever had, but its pretty good in my openion.

Ony one thing i want to chang about it. I want go get that black coating off the blade! it seems like some sort of plastic or powder coating, but it gets in the way, i think. Any of you have any tips for removing that coating from the blade?

Somehow, I feel knife small. I usually carry a Case Toothpick and that's about it. Blade less than 3". In the woods I usually carry a Gerber multitool and a Buck Minizipper.
