I've decided to carry two spare magazines.

FMJ is a bad idea, even New Yawk City stopped carrying them due to liability of over penetration. Stick with the JHP's and hit what you aim at.

There is nothing wrong with two guns in case of a fatal malfunction of your primary.

Exactly - how many "events" have happened where you live that one gun plus two mags wasn't enough and you needed another gun...

REALLY? SERIOUSLY?

Maybe time to move then if where you live is REALLY that bad

Let's not plan for something that can occur less than a meteor strike on your house either

Really man? On a website that caters to firearms enthusiasts you are questioning my reasons to carry 2 guns. Check this website out if you want to have some indicaton as to why I carry what I carry.

http://blogs.kansascity.com/crime_scene/homicides_missouri/

There are stories of homicides on the news almost everyday in Kansas City. I don't live in a posh neighborhood in florida sir. I don't live in the ghetto either, but I am forced to drive through it frequently.

I'm not trying to be rascist but Missouri has the highest rate of african american homicides in the country and most of the population in the ghetto that I have to drive through is african american. Now, I am not an african american and I have nothing against anyone who is, but statistics do not lie. I don't want to be in the middle of some dispute and be unarmed.

I have been robbed 3 times at gun point by african americans. I just thought that the more ammo and a BUG would increase my odds should I be robbed again. I'm sure I am starting to sound like a rascist, bigoted jerk so I'll end the post now.

Don't worry about the peanut gallery. There are a few posters on this forum that rail against almost any form of carry. They are shocked anyone would carry in their own home. Shocked you will carry more than one mag. Shocked you will carry more than one gun. Shocked you wear two socks. Shocked you will do anything different from them. If aren't like me you must be paranoid because I would only do that out of fear. They project a lot of their own fear onto other people.

We each have to evaluate how much precautionary measure we are willing to take to avert the likelihood and severity of the possible risks. We each live with different circumstance and thus different risk levels. And we each have different tolerance levels of what is discomfort and what is no big deal.

Your the one carry the load so if it is worth it to you for your situation then that must be the right decision. There sure isn't anything immoral, illegal or paranoid about carry two guns and two mags versus one gun and no extra mags. If you carry at all then you are planning to be prepared to defend yourself. If you plan to be able to defend yourself then why not have as much at hand to do so as practical for you?

The last 3 posts are the bests I have seen in a while here.

Did anyone watch Insomnia the movie? The main character gun failed him he dropped it and went for his BUG.

This is why I always say carry two, and spare magazines for the main.

NWPilgrim has got it right... you have to do what's best for you, and what you are comfortable doing as a CCW owner.

Though anything more than a second mag seems like overkill to me, I live in the relatively sedate and sane state of VT. I do think one should be mindful of how LE and the DA might view such levels of armament, because it might appear that one is looking for trouble.

But, listen to your heart and follow your path.. everyone has an opinion, after all, and most don't mean a whole lot.

I say, go ahead. When I do carry, which is not on a regular basis, I also carry my PX4 with a full mag 17+1, and my two spares. Full, too. I live in no war zone. On the contrary, I live in a rather peaceful area. The reason why I carry the two spares I have is the same one I carry another two on my duty belt, although I have been issued just the two my 92FS came with (I had to purchase it with my own money, but to heck with it, it's my life what will depend on it if bad goes to worse). Whenever you have to use that spare mag, there's a strong chance that you'd be under heavy stress. You might be in a dark place, you might have to run, dodge, bend over, crouch, etc. Therefore, there's the chance that you might drop and lose from sight your much needed spare magazine. Having another one available in your belt is a good idea.

Even the two choices of ammo is not a bad idea, but again, you might have to consider the scenarios you're likely to find yourself at. If there are odds that you might have to face attackers that hide behind barriers, I'd carry FMJ and JHP.

I'd say that since you have a backup, and you already have so many shots of your Glock with one spare, you'd be fine. But hey, your choice.

There is a website all about "EDC" that seems to focus on cool brand names. That's what part of the post sounded like, only he didn't have a photo. Personally, I don't seem to even own most of the stuff on contributor's postings, much less carry them. But returning to the original question, you know, some people acquired a high capacity pistol simply to avoid having to carry a second magazine. But personally, I think it makes a little more sense to carry two extra magazines for that perfect little single stack "bottom feeder". Or even two "clips" for the older one that you replaced. You know, the C-96.

Nocturnus31,

Suffice it to say that you are all set from my point of view. I, for one, don't think you can 'over-do' it so long as one is trained, concealed and comfortable.

If I have under 40 rds on me in mags, gun, etc.... I feel unprepared. That's based upon some past experiences. If I carry a couple of my guns, with 2 mags, that equals 21 rds and I feel under the level I"m generally comfortable.

Got my new magazine and mag pouch yesterday. I ended up loading it with some winchester 135gr ranger jhp rounds. I forgot I had those. I don't even notice the difference in weight. Now I have 46 rounds of 40 cal and 5 rounds of 38 special on me at all times. I think I am prepared.

Suffice it to say that you are irrefutably prepared (and hopefully will never need to utilize your gear).

Where do you live? Juarez?

May be not, but if you feel you need to carry more than do so!
I do live just over the boarder from Juarez and I only carry 2 mags, one in the G27 and one 13 round on the belt in the leatherman carrier.;)

Overkill? Perhaps.

Perhaps, but as you say, 'Do what makes you comfortable."

For me I carry a backup gun instead of a reload. That makes me comfortable.

Different strokes for different folks.

I see no reason to carry all of that heavy ammo. If you can't take care of business with 5 shots, you are in way over your head. I really don't see any of us getting into any firefights anytime soon.

I don't see myself getting in to any firefight at anytime in my life but unfortunately life tends to make those decisions for us. If I am attacked by more than one person, 5 shots aren't going to do squat unless I suddenly become Dilbert Deadeye. If I am able to place 2 clean headshots while being fired upon, moving for cover and under extreme stress then yeah, 5 shots would be more than enough.

In the real world, shooting a moving target that is trying to kill you will likely prove to be very difficult and may require a lot of bullets to stop the threat. I just want to be prepared. I am only 31 years old and want to live to see what great things the future has in store. If that means I have to carry 2 guns and a shipload of ammo to feel safe then so be it.
