Is it prudent to put 1000 rounds through a carry gun?

I generally put 50-200 rounds through any gun I plan on carrying before doing so. However, I like to stay familiar with the gun, so it is one of the more frequently ones taken to the range even there after. Therefore, any carry gun will enevitably get 1000+ rounds fired through it. If I start having problems with the gun, I will get it fixed, or replace it with a new one and start over.

My old Colt Combat Commander, the one that really matters, has an easy 50,000 through it, maybe a lot more.
It runs better now than ever.

Lordy, if I had a carry piece that could not go 1000 rounds without the attention of a gunsmith I would sell it quick or use it for a boat anchor.

You'll have to excuse an old timer; I'm satisfied with a couple of dozen rounds thru a piece prior to carrying.

Please... please don't beat on me, as I use a REVOLVER; a real gun. It's a Smith & Wesson.
No problems with FTF, FTE, limp wristing, smokestack jambs.... etc.

It depends a lot on the brand and model you buy. After reading of severl lockups on the S&W revolvers with the lock, I've decided they're not for me. Also, I won't be buying any firearm that rhymes with, say, "baurus", or "member". A lot of them are good servicable firearms (my boss carries aPT1991 as a duty weapon), but the complaints I've read and the stories told on forums concerning quality and customer service horror stories have convinced me that I dont want anything to do with them.

I will however buy a Sig, S&W, Colt, etc and run 100 rounds thru it to insure it runs correctly. I then will expect them to last 40K MINIMUM, and any major brand revolver more than that.

I understand that even Sig, HK, S&W can put out a lemon sometimes, but, you pay your money and take your choice/chance. For instance, I never bought a Yugo, even though many did. Some worked, a lot didnt. After reading the bad press on them, I never considered buying one.

Buy what will last when you start. Do your homework. I wouldn't give $50 dollars for a 1000 round handgun.
