Installed "handgun" safe in my truck today. **PICS**

PBP I have an F-150 just like yours. I think that safe is a great idea. Have you tried to fit 2 guns in the safe? My wife carries also.
When I do mine I think I will post it on some of the other gun boards. I will give you credit for the idea. And a GREAT idea it is. :D
When I get ready to install will you show pics of the brackets and bolts from under the truck? Thanks PBP!!!

I bought one of the Honeywell ones from Walmart this weekend. Gonna work on getting it installed this week/weekend.

thanks for the idea.

It would depend on what two guns you tried to fit in there. Plus, you can get a slightly larger safe too.

I will try to get pics if I can. If not I will draw you a diagram. :)

Great job, many thanks for posting. Hope you bought shares in that safe company before posting your install :D

Got to get me one too!

That's the only downside to driving a sedan. I just don't have anywhere good to mount a safe & there's no room between the bottom of the seat and the seat mounting/reinforcement ridges.

parrothead, I'm also curious about where you're located (generally, not specific precinct or even town). I have a lot of friends in LE around the Triangle and they all leave the CCW with the driver (so far, I'm sure they would if they felt it necessary depending on the reason for the stop or specific circumstance). I've never had an officer ask for my handgun although I just moved to a new area so I'm curious as to what the norm is here. How do you go about taking possession of the firearm? I carry a C&L 1911 and I do NOT like the idea of an average non-gun guy LEO handling my gun (especially so close to me). Do you have the owner hand the gun over (carefully)? Is the gun rendered safe (i.e. chamber emptied)? Feel free to pm me. I'm just curious about how this is handled. Oh, and I don't disagree with the practice as I'm all for protecting LEOs (especially having a couple of friends shot at recently by some dealers) & their feeling as secure as possible while working.

After having it installed for a week now, and after a few trips downtown, I can tell you that I feel so much more secure now that my BU gun is locked away in that safe.

I always worried before about someone getting my bag before even though I had in secured on one of those mesh metal nets and secured to the seats. Car prowlers around here tend to carry small bolt cutters to snip bicycle cords and security cables so I was afraid of that happening.

Now they would need a hammer, a crowbar, and several minutes of loud noisy work to get this puppy. :)

I'm looking forward to getting mine installed. I've needed one for awhile because there's usually a handgun in my truck during the day (I take it in at night). Of course I live in a nice neighborhood out in the country and work in the armpit of our particular beloved city so that's probably a little backward.

At least with the safe installed, if my truck gets broken into in broad daylight 2 blocks from the PD (yes it's that close) then maybe they won't be able to get the handgun.

My jeep doesn't really have a place to hide stuff so I tried a different camouflage tactic (hide in plain sight). Also bolted in place in the original first-aid kit location (the new aid-kit didn't fit and is elsewhere).

Next time I swear I'll make it look like an old pizza box like this one.

now anyone have any ideas for us suckers with cars?

I have been thinking about this. We all dont need trucks - especially with gas prices. And some of us just have to work with what we have (96 Saturn for me). Trunk is a bad idea for me since there is so little to attach to (tire under big piece of fiberboard takes up area) AND I would prefer it to be inside the driving compartment. Since it is only 4" deep (according to the link on page 1), I was considering attaching it to the leg support of one of the rear seats - vertically. It might eat into some foot room for that passenger, but not a big issue for me since I never drive anyone around in my car anyway. Also a pain in the trunk because it would stick out like an eyesore and limit ability to carry crap in there.

NOW, what are rules for Communist states like New Jersey or New York? Do I have to have my pistol in the trunk or is it OK for it to be locked up in the passenger compartment?

I'm going to have to examine this - cant carry at work, but also go to places after work I would like the option. This would solve a lot off issues.

Bah, made measurements - no go for me. Vertical height of the leg area for back seat is absurdly small. I'll have to investigate trunk area.

Ok, so you have a Ford F-150 reg cab.

What color is it? Where do you park it regularly? And approximately how big of a crowbar and hammer would you think someone might need? :D

Just kidding. It looks like a very nice set-up. I hate having to leave my gun in the car and have been looking for something to mount in the trunk. That set-up of yours looks just about right. Thanks for sharing.

I knew there was a reason I like you PBP, we both drive Regular cab F-150's :D

Although mine is highly modified its still an F-150

For us guys with cars, you could try these boxes:

I have one, and it feels much better than just sticking the gun in the glove compartment.
Those are much better than just putting it in the glove box. Especially if you can hide it.

I almost bought one but decided I wanted something I could access with a quick code instead of a key.

Plus, local car burglars here have got into the habit of carrying small bolt cutters to cit metal cables since so many people use then to secure laptops and bikes.

Foam

Playboy - I'll echo what most people have said... A VERY clean install. Looks great.

Could you tell me the type and where you get your foam, and how you cut it so it looks clean. I'm looking to do a similar install and add an additional piece of foam for my armrest (flashlight, fastlane/speedpass, etc.)

Thanks.
