If you were going to get ONLY 1 rifle...

Model 70 Win .270 Featherweight w/ Pre 64 action. On one of these forums, someone posted a recent (FN) or Classic (Connecticut) Featherweight with a synthetic stock which still had the wood Featherweight's fleur d'lis (sp?) checkering and Schnabel forend--kinda nice. I prefer wood, but if I had to go synthetic, I think I'd like that. I've currently got a K-Mart special (Black Shadow) Model 70 .270 that's a real tack driver. Syn stocked , but I would like a floorplate or perhaps, ideally, a detach mag. Close 2nd choice - Rem 700 Custom Shop Mt Rifle .270.

DeerSlayer86:

A pre 1964 Winchester in 30/06 Springfield. To meet your requirement I would restock in synthetic. The M-70 has controled feed and is the only rifle that the bolt can be field stripped in the field, without tools, for cleaning or deicing.

I've got mine also. Remington 700 SPS Buckmasters in .270 Win with a Mueller 4-16 X 50AO lighted dot scope on it (Leupold mounts)....

;)

Model 700 XCR in 30.06. Oh I already have it and it is a weather fighter with the trynite finish on it. :)

7mm Rem Mag Sendero. It is one of the best performers on the market period. I handload for mine and its proven to be very accurate regardless of the powder or bullet I feed it, and regardless of the distance I shoot. When I square up on a target or animal I am confident in its ability to get the job done.

Savage 10 308 with 22" chorme moly barrel and nikon monarch scope with turrets and backup irons installed. ACIS mag metal installed on a manners TA hunting stock.

Not too many 7mm fans here yet, I would think a 7x57, 280Rem would be better then a 270 if you could have only 1 rifle for NA game, and still be light enough for varmit shooting, and out perform the 30-06 at that, and not give up much more on the big end.
IMHO,
Bob

Either a Savage or Browning in 7mm-08.

Unless it could be my Encore with a few barrels.

Unless it was a custom build but still 7mm-08.

7mm fans

I have a Remington 7400 in 280 Rem synthetically stocked and I handload for it.
130 grns @ 2900fps will group 1-1/8" @ 100 and I can load up to 175 grns for Elk.
Oh yeah "Bolt action" oops! I would have to find a synthetic stock for my 1916 pattern model 93 Oviedo Mauser in 7x57 mm;
I handload for it also, same bullets. 130,145,150,160,175 there are even more options out there !

.30-06 cartridge - second choice would be .270

In terms of rifle - I like the Winchester M70, and have a hard time wanting anything else.

I would like a very very expensive rifle. Then I could sell it and hunt with shotguns, handguns and bows, on land that I'd bought with the proceeds.

.30-06 or .308 would be fine.

I'd probably go with a Savage something or other because I'm cheap and don't shoot a lot anyways.

If I had more money, a Winchester Model 70 would be cool.

A savage W/ accu trigger in 35 Whelen. Easily capable of any game can load 250s for the big stuff or use lead SWC 357 pistol bullets over trailboss for small. I'd go for a Millet 1-4X DMS scope.
