If you could only have one handgun what would it be?

You gotta be kidding

ONLY ONE HANDGUN. You gotta be kidding. That would be like having only one woman.......Oops, did I just say that?
Well, er, I mean you gotta have more than one............gun.

Colt 3rd. generation 45 Colt/45 ACP this gun could keep me happy as it does already.

That is an absolutely beautiful weapon, rep. It is definitely one of the most gorgeous Colts I have ever laid eyes on.

That is a nice looking gun...

Tough choice. My 44 Mag is very versatile as long as I can cast and reload but that 1911 is very very flat and would take the 22LR kit and 45Super or 460 Rowland...hmmm prolly the 1911 if equipped.

5946TSW or a 5906TSW as a very close second. Because it's made to last several lifetimes, is accurate enough, reliable, eats anything, will shoot NATO rounds all day without breaking a sweat, AND...there's no better feeling than solid steel cracking open a skull (just kidding on that one!). :D

"If i had to choose just one gun to side me for the rest of my life, be it handgun, rifle or shotgun, I would select a .357 Magnum revolver." -Skeeter Skelton 1988 http://www.handloads.com/articles/default.asp?id=30

I'll throw my lot in with Skeeter and take a 4" stainless medium frame .357 Magnum. I think it's possibly the single most useful firearm ever made.
  • Small enough for ccw
  • proven defensive caliber
  • with the right loads it can be used for hunting deer, rabbits, snakes, squirrels, boar, and blackbear
  • doesn't require a lot powder. 518 full magnum or 2000 light loads per pound
  • simple manual of arms
  • easy to maintain
  • reliable
  • caliber is available in companion levergun
  • bullet weight and size allow more rounds per lb and square inch than .44 or .45 calibers. This is important in a situation where space and weight are concerns.

I'd prefer a Ruger Security or Speed Six.

Not glamorous. Not beautiful. Not my favorite gun or even my favorite SIG.
But the P228 would would do just fine for any SD need.

Except for those whippersnappers who, even limited to one gun, would have to have a gun so small and easy to carry that it'd take two shots to kill a full grown field mouse.:p

I'm not going to play that game where the gun (a pistol) also needs to take anything from squirrels to deer and black bear.

In some environments, where four legged critters would be of concern, such as small game for food, or large carnivores (ok, bears) that might eat you for lunch, a shotgun with birdshot up to slugs would be a good choice.

The best answer to the question: Any one of the many good quality guns that we're fortunate enough to have available and are free to choose from.

That's why we won't all have the same gun.

From a practical standpoint, if our govt. could limit us to just one gun, then then they'd take that one away from us before long, also. Sorry to be long winded. Red Bull, again.

Without a doubt...a BHP

Why?
The answer is too long. However above all the other reasons, most important ones for me are...

1. Most used handgun in the whole world. You can find spare parts in almost every continent.
2. Simple, and works well.
3. It fits like a glove to my hand.

My second choice would be a Glock. If there isn't any BHP around...:)
Almost same as above, except the third one.

1. Getting there...
2. The same
3. No, definitely "not" this one...:D

All the best

Torn between my 4" 1911 or my Browning Hi Power. Both simplicity at it's best, accurate and dependable. If I had to choose.....it would be the 1911.
