OK, here is the survey: you can only have one .45, and it is a keeper for life. You only have $1000 to spend. Which gun do you choose? Thanks for the responses.

I've had a Colt Combat Commander Series 70 for over 25 years. I "know" this pistol and can shoot it adequately. It has served me well and I would not sell it or trade it. Therefore, IT IS MY CHOICE.

Nobody is limited to just ONE .45, at least not yet. I have a Springfield Armory 1911A-1 and, except for a problem with dented brass on the ejection port, I am satisfied with it.

A Springfield 1911 loaded governmint model. You can have one for $500, spend up to $500 doing whatever custom work you choose, and end up with a hand tuned weapon for under your $1000 limit. (As long as you don't plunk $250 into the finish alone, $500 will do nicely for any reliabilty, tuning, and checkering jobs. Shop around and night sights can be included in that price range, too.)

Para P-14 or 16 "limited" models. 45 & 40 calibers. I have the P-14 model and it's the very finest pistol i've owned. Theres nothing about it i dislike. It has feed all manner of ammo i've chosen to feed through it, extremely accurate, hi- capicity caps avalible for them, great heft & feel with them. I got mine for 735.00$ and normally they range in price to about 800.00$.

But if not a Para my next choice would be a Springfield armory product. That's my next purchase for a 1911 style weapon. Hopes this helps.

I only own one right now but I hope to remedy that next year. For now I'll go with my Para P14-45. For the thousand dollar limit, I'd go with the P-14 Limited but replace the adjustable sights with fixed night sights. Hmmmmmm the Tommy gun does have me thinking though... :D

Glock 30.

Extremely accurate, %100 reliable, compact, carries 10+1 rounds, and it will never wear out
(plus all the benefits of Glock like light weight and rust proof etc).

With all the money I would save, I would buy some training and a bunch of practice ammo.

Or, I could just buy two Glock 30's with that amount of money.

hmmmmm my 1951 vintage lightwieght commander, my seecamp conversion 1991a1, or my new service army??

It would be a Colt. That's about all I know.

(i read somewhere that m3 grease guns cost about $35 to make.. you could get a LOT of them for a grand)
