If you could only buy one Handgun?

One more note: I have heard you never have to strip and clean a Glock. Is that true? I have a few thousand rounds through mine and have never cleaned it....

Can be true but you are inviting eventual trouble.

Choose one... probably cz 75b. Good ergonomics, reliable, a well tested design, the pcr is a good size, 9mm is effective. All metal comes in handy if you run out of ammo, you have a handy 2 lb club.

1911 comes in a very close second.

If I had to choose one and only one handgun, it would be without a doubt a 1911 of some sort. I love the .45 caliber and nothing says .45 like a 1911. It has a classic look and feel and there are many parts and upgrades available. It is the reason I pack a PT1911.

I'd stick with my .40 P229 if I had to get rid of the rest. Big enough to matter, small enough to conceal (Disclaimer: I'm part of the younger generation that doesn't tuck in their shirts).

This is tough question and answers run to personal, but not always practical, taste. Although I don't have mine anymore, if I could only have ONE, it would be a Glock 22 and I have recommended it to people who aren't "gun people" but want to get one now in the current political and economical environment.

Call me paranoid, but I would recommend the G22 because most LEOs are me carry it; parts, accessories and ammo are plentiful and if the SHTF, it will be easier to keep running than more exotic or less common handguns.

If you're looking for concealment on a day-to-day basis, try the Glock model 27 in .40 S&W. For all around use I'd buy (and have) a Glock model 23 in .40 S&W. For pure range use I use a Glock model 19 in 9mm. The model 19 and 23 have the same frame size.

Revolver: Three inch model 66 (hard to come by), four inch if three inch unavailable. .
Auto: Glock 17, Heinie Straight Eight night sights, 3.5 pound connector, nicely worn in with about 20,000 rounds through it. Like mine. :)

You guys will probably laugh at this, but here goes:
It would be my Yugoslavian M57 Tokarev. By merely changing barrels and using a 9mm barrel bushing I have the option of shooting:
7.62x25
9x19 Luger
9x23 Winchester
38 Super
9mm Largo
The M57 has the same type safety as the Colt 1911. The safety on most other imported Toks were a joke.
It carries 9 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber. The 9x23 Winchester is the ballistic duplicate of the 357 Magnum, so I get 10 rounds instead of 6, faster reloads, less muzzle blast and much easier concealability. The pistol is very strongly built and can easily handle the abuse.
9x19 Luger ammo is everywhere. Milsurp 7.62 x25 and 9mm Largo ammo is readily available and super cheap right now, so I am stocking up.

Personally, I like steel framed guns so I would either want a full size 1911 or a Sig P229 if I was only allowed to own one gun.

You cant go wrong with a Glock, Springfield XD or S&W M&P either. All are good guns that can take alot of abuse and are available in all the popular self defense calibers. They also come in frame sizes that make them suitable for home defense, target or CCW use.

Ruger security-six 21/4" brl, in 357. Stronger than a smith, easier to conseal than a 4". you can shoot 38spl & 357 mag. federal makes a great 180 hunting load for it. You can reload the brass.
