If you could only buy one Handgun?

When thinking de-cocking levers Sig feature, sometimes Ruger, comes to mind. None of my 1911s over the years have had a de-cocking lever. Although Colt did make one: Double Eagle (but it could be debated whether or not this was a 1911 pistol).

And I agree with your 10mm enthusiasm. My favorite CCW has been a G29 for about the last eight years.

A number of manufacturers make a 1911 in 10mm: Colt, SA, Kimber, Fusion, Dan Wesson...

I personally can not think of a better combo than 10mm in 1911 for great shooting.

With that said, I still carry my G29 far more often than a 1911 in 10mm or .45ACP, so that would be my choice.

My apologies as I am not inherently familiar with 1911's. They are a bit too complicated for a carry piece for me. (Fine for some folks, just not me.) I am an avid 10mm 'freak'. I like the G20, love the G20SF, looking for a G29SF, and I just ordered a Colt Delta Elite so I'd have another great 10mm. It won't be a carry piece as my G20SF is, but I can only imagine the fun I'll have at the range with it.

Well, looks like you will become familiar with the 1911.

I absolutely love the Delta Elite. More so than the G29 or G20. The DE/1911 is a little bit more complex, not just point and shoot Glock time, but once I started shooting 1911s and especially the DE I was hooked!

I have not seen the innards of the new DE, but externally they look identical to the original; with the exception of slightly different grip texture, and mag release. If the guide rod is still plastic, you may consider replacing it with a good metal one. And if they still are using a dual recoil spring set up, and you change out the guide rod, you will have to get a single one from someone like Wolff; works in conjunction with the new guide rod. I have looked at used DEs with absolutely cracked up original plastic guide rods. (But, Colt may have taken care of this? I have not heard much about the actual functioning/quality/reliability of the new DEs.)

I still CC my G29 more than any of my handguns, I like the simplicity and the cartridge and it has gained some carry character over the years. Also ten and fifteen round mags don't hurt for woods carry. Not to mention if it gets a little moisture, no big deal; something about 1911s that are too nice for too much bush whacking; in my opinion. My Glock gets a little hard use and abuse, and then some TLC and it just keeps on going.

DE, Sunday go to meeting gun! And a joy to shoot!

If I could only have one handgun it would have to be the SW 329. I would need something for hiking/camping in the woods and for protection against bear.
It would also with the right holster be an excellent carry gun. I find the 210 grain Win. Silver Tip fairly controllable.

I hate these questions.

In part because they are hard to resist.

I would buy a .357 with a 4 inch barrel. Maybe a Smith, maybe a Ruger, or maybe a............ Taurus.

G-26

I could hang out with stevie ray, at the range, all day. I say the g26 also. I would want a small gun that can handle all three as well, and the 26 is it.

Do .22lr conversions count as guns? If conversion kits do not count, then I might choose a g27 with a 9mm and a .22 conversion. I would only use the 9mm, and have the .40 stuff for the SHTF, zombie type thing.

Of course, if they count, then I'll stick with the G-26.

I'd go with any Sig 9mm and you should be good for a long time.

If not --
1. Glock 19 ( all purpose)
2. S&W M&P 9mm
3. XD9 Service

Couldn't Do It.

If you could only buy one Handgun?
ONE?!? Just One?
I'd cheat. Somehow, someway.

DW 15-2 w/ a couple o' various length barrel/shrouds, 6", 4", etc. That's not cheating either, that's versatility in design.

or maybe...

A quality semi centerfire (1911 format preferred) w/ a .22 kit.

or maybe a TC Contender w/ a slew of barrels.

One? The mind boggles at such a concept. That is not logical Captain.

ThankyouLord for not making me have to ponder such a decision in real life.

1 pistol for defense/range/carry...

Here is my opinion,
Since the 9mm has been set as the standard for NATO... ammo won't be scarce, and, the 9mm has a softer recoil as opposed to a 357, 40, 45... so you won't need to take too much time to reposition @ the range or on an attacker/game.

As for the Glock, watch the trigger pull, between 3.5 and 5 pds.
http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-102280.html
which is too light to the touch in certain situations, and no external saftey.

Imagine, waking up in the middle of the night from hearing a 'noise' in the house, and your sleepy with anxiety and adrenaline running, a 4 pound pull is nothing to you in that position, and here you are trying to hear what the noise is and BOOM, your pulling the trigger just from a muscle twitch.

Now, this is my opinion remember that, we all have one.
My grandfather always told me to "buy American", especially these days, and living in Pittsburgh around all of the steel mills, and there goes the executives, driving Hondas, Toyotas, etc... to work, see what happened, we have no more steel mills. So, with firearms, I am a bit prejudice, and I always look at the American made guns. As for me, and as for that fact, I lean towards the Ruger, S&W, Colt... and here is my position. My Ruger P95 9mm is great. However, it doesn't have the ability for attachments, such as flashlights, laser sights... but it has a 15 round magazine, which is ideal at the range, and plenty enough for personal protection. It's trigger pull is 12 pounds in decock mode, so firing it on accident is a stretch. BUT once it is in cocked mode, it then has a soft pull of 4 pounds, which is good at the range.

As for carrying it concealed, you can pretty much conceal anything these days, with the holsters they make. Unless you want to carry a Casull 454, or a 44 mag. With all of this said, and to answer your question... I'd look at the S&W 9mm. It is great at the range, it can be concealed easily, and it can pack all of the attachments our heart desires. BUT they were boycotted in 2000, yes, S&W was boycotted!!!

But they, (GOA) have since eased on that, S&W lost alot of money for a minute, and memories of that faded. But I remember. They once sold out to the UK... then back to the USA, kinda still making it semi-American.

As for me, I'd never part with my Ruger P95 9mm. Ammo is abundant, and you can drop it in a mud puddle and still have confidence in it.

Now to make a statement on what I said about Ammo.

The Makarov 9mm is a great piece, but it being Russion made IT can fire all 9x18 and easily converts to fire 9x19 9mm shells, and being a 9x18, and American military being 9mm 9x19 Luger, point being, it was made so that American troops couldn't use seized collected Russion ammo, (9x18), but the Russions could use seized American Ammo, (9x19).
A very good tactical move, i have to say.

To summarize, think before you purchase, do what you are doing, RESEARCH, look for recalls, and buy American!!!

I love my Ruger, and I don't need any attachments for what I do, range target practice. I don't want to rely on a laser pindot. I like target with raw concentration. This is just my opinion, and now you all know why. Abundant ammo, light to carry and conceal, and all American.
There are some real nice Kimbers, Barettas, and Taures'...
And Sig's, Colts and Glocks too...

So, buy what you need it for, shoot straight and stay safe.

I don't think I will be trying this.

SIG P220 Elite hands down

I am really surprised there are no posts that say the SIG P220. When I turned 21 the first thing I did was go out and purchase this amazing gun. Most people think its two big for concealed carry but thats why they made a carry version. It has been nothing but reliable since the first day of shooting. The gun is built to last and after having it for some time now I can say without a doubt that it is my favorite pistol of all time. And 45 ACP I feel is the most versatile round out there.

I would vote for a Beretta 96 for a carry gun or a S&W 686 for target. It would really depend on if I planned to carry it or not.
