If you could only buy one Handgun?

I love my 1911A1; I love most of all my Sig P220. I love all my guns. Especially the semi's. But if the question is "Serious", and you could only have one, then it should be a revolver in 357 magnum in a 3" model. Preferably a S&W. Plain and simple. It is good for home, carrying, plinking, hunting, and just about anything else. You can shoot 38 specials, 38 +P, as well as 357 magnums. Because it's a revolver, there's little to no chance of mechanical problems. If the question is serious, then the answer is obvious.

I would like to get a 1911 made by Springfield. I like how the 1911 feels comfortable. Like its supposed to be there.

I'm a small woman so my limits are probably different from yours but I'm a big fan of Italian guns. If I could have only one hand gun, it would be my .380 Barretta Cheetah. Easy to wear and clean. very reliable-I've never had it jamb on me- and accurate.

1911 with adjustable sights. Conversion kit would be the ultimate option.;)

Proven many times over. Target, self defense, CCW, and hunting if you so desire. Squirrel bird, and rabbit with shot shells if conversion not available. Larger game with standard loads. They tested the stopping power on Bulls at the stockyard. Recoil is quite controlable regardless of stature. It is really the do it all pistol.

If I had to sell everything and only keep 1 handgun it would be my Glock 19. It is rugged and easy to use. Small enough to be concealable but still has a 16 round capacity. 9mm is a common and easily attainable caliber.

If i only had one handgun it would have to be something that was for concealed carry. I would wait to see what the Ruger LCR looks like in 4 or 5 months. An SP101 if you want 357, but try a 357 out of a snub-nose before you make that call. I think these are the only two caliber choices that make much sense out of a snub-nose carry piece.
If you want a semi-auto it would depend on caliber. Seecamp 380 looks nice.
Kahr guns are superb. Glock is also great, but uglier than sin. If you go with Glock you will really really want to keep it concealed.
I wouldn't be afraid to go with a 9mm as long as you are going to carry good JHP ammunition.

This is a tough one for me, in that, one of it's purposes would have to cover medium game hunting. In my home state that would mean it would have to be a revolver due to the PA Game Commission's regs. So I guess I'd keep my 4" S&W Mountain Gun, in .44 mag.....loaded up to max levels for hunting, and loaded down to appropriate levels for SD and HD roles.

I'd prefer a semi pistol for each of those latter roles, but I wouldn't want to give up the revolver's hunting role, since I have a disability which makes carrying a long gun in the woods difficult. Both my arms are occupied with forearm crutches when I'm traveling on uneven ground. Add a long gun, slung diagonally, and it quickly gets pretty uncomfortable and tiring.

I have a disabled permit which allows hunting from a vehicle, but that's not the experience I'm looking for in the fall. I still like to get out away from the roads and into the woods. Carrying a handgun instead of a rifle makes that a lot easier.

Just one?

I would go with a S&W 66 no dash in a 4"

It's stainless so it will never rust...

4" is perfect for plinking, targets, home defense...

It's pinned/recessed, very accurate, and sexy!

Will never jam and always goes BANG!

Weev-

Sig P229 in .40 S&W is my ATF. I have Colt .45's, S&W .357 and .38's but the 229 is the best pistol I own. If I had to give everything up, I would stick with the Sig.

You need to give a lot more info to get an intelligent answer. Are you going to be hiking? Is that bear/lion country? How long a period of time will you be carrying (you won't want a heavy gun like the excellent GP100)?
If I could have only one gun it would be a SW 329 using 44 Special in the city and 44mag in the woods.

Just One?

If you are limited to buying only one handgun, add my vote for a .357. I would recommend a 4" revolver with adjustable rear sight (Ruger GP100). While it may not be perfect for each of your needs, it can serve all of them.

The inherent "reliability" of revolvers aside, I would opt for a Sig Sauer P220 .45 ACP without hesitation.

My second choice would be either a "pre-Clinton" Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Magnum or a current Ruger GP-100 .357 Magnum (both with stainless finish, 4" barrels).

If this is like a "you're castaway on a lonely deserted island and could only pick one gun", it would have to be the Sig P226.

...because this gun astoundingly reliable, amazingly smooth shooting and superbly accurate.

This is probably a repeat reply, but someone recommended (and I'd second) a 3" Smith 66--the poster adding that they can be hard to find. My recommendation is the also-hard-to-find 65 variant, esp in Ladysmith form..but best of all worlds if you add to your "66" duties carry--either CC or OC. Full lug/shroud, stainless (satin!), the vaunted 3", and obviously fixed sight--combo unique to the LS65. Easily my one keep gun.
