If Someone Handed You $1,000...

$1,000 won't get it done...for an only one gun concept....

( I'd need $ 3,500 .....for a Wilson Combat 1911, 5" gun ..in .45 acp )...and I'd take a Wilson CQB model...( and if you'd let me have 2 guns, I'd need another $ 3,500 for another Wilson Combat 1911 in 9mm..also a 5" gun )....:D

After reading some of the comments, including some of the more recent ones, I've come to realize that I'm a bit like BigJimP and TMP: I've already got most of what I want and or am likely to get, and $1000 would NOT get the gun I'd really like to have...

I have everything I want in terms of guns, and like I said above I'm sure not going to limit myself to one gun......./... so I'd spend the the $1,000 on 3 cases of Montana Gold bullets probably...and be very happy with that.

I changed my mind,,,

I changed my mind.

While I do own my dream guns as far as functionality goes,,,
I don't have a gun that is truly beautiful.

So if a Grand were to magically fall not my lap,,,
I think I would try to find an engraved revolver of some ilk.

Maybe something like this?

I don't know if a Grand would buy one like this,,,
But I do have a few revolvers that could be engraved,,,
Perhaps a Grand would cover engraving one of my candidates.

I saw a small snub-nosed revolver in a gun mag many years back, set up as a VAMPIRE KILLER'S gun. Silver bullets, phenomenally beautiful engraving with silver inlays (in a blued gun), all sorts of special vampire-killing stuff in a beautiful case.

The engraving on the one below was a bit like the one I fell in love with. The other one -- when you saw the whole package -- was a bit over-the-top!

It was a wonderful, whimsical mix of art, humor, and fine engraving. If $1000 would buy that gun, I'd get it! I bet it wouldn't. :)

I purchased one of those little coffins,,,

I purchased one of those little coffins,,,
After seeing the Vampire Killer Kit on the web.

I still haven't decided what gun to put in it though.

I have an 8mm French Lebel revolver that's 112 years old,,,
Perhaps a Nagant revolver would look well in it,,,
Definitely something late 1800's old school.

Just to show you the size of the coffin case,,,
Here it is with a 4" K-frame Model 12 inside it.

If someone handed me a grand right now, a SIG 220 in 10mm would be in my pistol safe as fast as I could make it happen

Great minds must think alike. I just ordered one off Gun Broker yesterday. :D

The problem is with the kind of qualifiers/dis-qualifiers the OP placed makes it difficult.

Going to combat as a grunt Marine is a world away from civilian carry and or LE carry.

My first choice would be a Sig Nightmare carry 1911 in 45 ACP. Honorable mention to the Ruger LW Commander and the S&W model 69 44 magnum.

Those weren't the ORIGINAL qualifiers/dis-qualifier. Things changed as the discussion continued. Some of us chose to ignore the later changes :)
