If Someone Handed You $1,000...

I'm asking to see what you guys think. I'm leaning towards buying an HK45 but it's hard to justify the price... I'm just trying to see if there's better options for the money. I want this to be my go to pistol, and something that I can depend on no matter what.

YES. The HK45 is terrific pistol. I have one and love it. To me worth every penny and it is definitely a pistol you can rely on no matter what. A bit big for CCW but it can definitely be done with right holster and belt.

This link to a 50,000 round endurance test is stunning in the performance of the HK45.

"The HK45 fired its first 31,522 rounds without a bobble of any kind, another pistol-training.com endurance test record. But the mere fact that it out-performed those other pistols tells only part of the story. I do not believe another .45 pistol could fire that many rounds, in that short a time, with that little maintenance, and survive. Anonymous internet chest-thumpers notwithstanding, fifty thousand rounds of full power 230gr ammo through a .45 pistol in eight months is staggering."

My HK45.

You know why so many new shooters buy so many guns? The ergonomics of the gun aren't quite right for their hands/stance. So they keep searching. Once they find the right gun, they're in such a buying habit that they just keep buying...................That's my story and I sticking to it...................

Cz 85 combat matte stainless preferred, sent to cz custom for a single action trigger, and hammer with a kadet 22 conversion.

Unless its something recently added to the CZ line, the 85 Combat has never been offered in anything but carbon steel, in high-gloss blue, Polycoat, or satin nickel. I have one in satin nickel (and also have a Kadet Kit.)

A stainless CZ75 has many of the same features, including ambi safeties, but also has an extended beavertail; you can get the same treatment (including removal of the firing pin block) from CZ Custom, and the stainless 75 would arguably be JUST AS GOOD! Internally, they're very similar (most parts are the same. I'd probably have them keep the firing pin block and just smooth things up...)

In response to the OP's question, I'd be torn between my 85 Combat and my Sphinx SDP... and refuse to make that decision until someone gives me $1000 dollars!!

Glock 29 because I feel it provides adequate firepower and capacity for most situations I think are 'reasonable', can be easily carried, has a relatively small number of easily-replaceable and widely-available parts, more or less.

I don't believe spending more money, up to the specified limit, can buy me a gun that I would find 'better' in any way, for any purpose I define as practical, and given the rules/limitations of this game, practical carry and home defense would be my only concern.

10mm Auto would always be my first choice for the "you get to choose one" hypothetical scenarios, because I feel I'm free to make any silly assumptions I please, such as the assumption that if ammo is available at all, then so is 10mm.

I would hand them their $$$ back, and tell them to get lost!!!!
Exactly what I was thinking...okay, not exactly. Substitute 'bent" for "lost". :) I'm not getting married to any gun for life...especially not by someone else's rules.
Edited to add:
Persistent, aren't you?
Near identical thread got locked, I see. Off to a great start for a new member.

Well, since this is the semi-auto section I would probably pick a blued Colt LW Commander in 9mm assuming I could find one for $1,000.

@orionengnr - Grumpy, aren't you? I see someone forgot to take their happy pills today.

I wasn't aware of the no SHTF rule. Should I have just turned off my computer and cried when the thread was closed? Excuse me for actually wanting my questions to be answered.

If it were gonna' have to be my one and only I would take the grand and put it towards a nicely blued, Mammoth ivory handled, double stack, 10mm Republic 1911!
