If someone gave you $1000.00 and said go buy a ccw...

I'd have to say if I had to buy a CCW with the 1000, I'd get that new Sig 9mm. The P290. It looks like a sweet little pocket gun. If I could use the 1000 on a gun other than the CCW, I'd like one of those Kel-Tec .22 mag pistols. The other handgun I've always wanted is a Contender. I'd love to have one in .44 magnum with a shorter barrel of around 5.5" or so. It's not that practical, but I want one. Then again, a .44 magnum Alaskan would be nice too. I love those .22 lr scandium smith kit guns as well...

Well, I think I need more than 1000 bucks.

I'd get one of these....

Wait...I already have those:confused:

OK, then....a Springer EMP

Or that Sig P290

I'm actually trying to get something smaller then my xd service... I love it, but carrying a fullsize is getting a little tiresome

Well, I'm trying to accumulate some cash, so I can purchase what I need to
start reloading and "really save money on ammo..." .

So, I'd probably currently go by TSA's standards of VERY DANGEROUS, spend
1$ on that terrorist toothpaste, and 1$ on a pair of NAILCLIPPERS, and bank
998$ till I can get the rest to start sockin' that dough away by making bullets myself.

My wife is ever so graciously letting me spend some of my hard earned money on a new weapon.

With so many good, reliable CCW guns available, why spend it all on one. You could get a good 9mm or 40S&W CCW, and something for range practice for a grand.
I just believe in practical, reliable, and accurate for CCW. Others may want more of something "showy", or a status symbol. My CCW is a tool that gets used. Not abused, but worn.
Springfield Armory XD40 Subcompact, and LCP.

I already have an EMP .... I'd use the $1,000 as a start on my "Go to Gunsite and Take the 250 Pistol Course Fund"

If I had to buy a gun, I'd get a sp101 in .327 Fed for my dad, to replace the lead spitting H&R .22 POJ that he thinks he can defend himself with now..... I'd use the leftover money to get him a Colorado CCW class and ammo.

OP said CCW and he has up to $1000, so I'd pick a Rohrbaugh 9mm.

Kahr PM9 would be a close second. G27 would be third (only because it is bigger and harder to conceal, although not by much).

My own CCW preferences

I guess we all have biases regarding the CCW gun we'd like to carry. I'll give you my biases first and then the gun choice that results from them. I am biased towards:

1. .45 ACP as the most effective defensive caliber.
2. Thin guns that fit easily inside the waistband.
3. Fairly short grips that are less likely to print on the cover garment.
4. Light, crisp single action trigger with short reset and thumb safety.
5. Reputation for reliability.
6. Good looks, such as reverse two tone with wood grip panels.

The net result of all this is a preference for compact 1911s. I have a Colt Defender and like it very much. But if I had $1000 to spend like the poster, I'd like to try the STI version of a 3 inch 1911 with aluminum frame, the STI Escort shown below:
