I think the Germans are winning

I picked up a Walther PPQ 5in model this past weekend...

And I have to say, I really like it. I knew I would, but it has been a while since I shot one, and I forgot how nice they are.

Even more so with the small backstrap on it.

I really like my M&P, the Apex FSS is very nice...

But the VP9, and now the PPQ, are giving it a run... And I think I am preferring the PPQ the most right now.

Being that the PPQ is new, I need to shoot some more before I can really say for sure.

Nice!

I got the 9MM PPQ M1 and also the VP9 and adore them both.

Now the PPQ .45 just came out. Hmm.

Lots and lots of great choices these days.

I had a chance to try out a 5" PPQ M2 alongside a Gen4 Glock 34. Both guns were excellent but I thought the PPQ trigger was just flat out better than the Glock trigger.

If you think they are winning now, what until you shoot the PPQ 45. I like it better than my PPQ 9mm.

I heard it was paramount to the engineers at Walther that the PPQ handle and feel just like the 9mm model in regards to dimensions.

A true work of art. If the P99 never existed, I'd be all over the PPQ.

Used to be a fan of the PPQ M1 but the more shot it the less liked it. Did not like the gun at speed as much as others in the stable. I can't put my finger on it exactly but it was just off.

So I sold it.

I still need to run it faster, but shooting at a slower pace was very good with the PPQ.

We will see how it goes when I pick up speed.

I'm a satisfied owner of a Gen3 17 and a Gen4 21, and those 2 ain't going nowhere but "IMO" that PPQ is a probably a better gun, and I'm real anxious to try out the .45 ACP version!

This is a quote from the Modern Service Weapons website, post 09/15/2013;

"The PPQ has arguably the best trigger of any of the current crop of polymer service pistols – short takeup, crisp break, strong reset (both audible and tactile), and short reset distance. If you pick your favorite polymer gun – Glock, M&P, HK – they each fall short in one of the above areas, while the PPQ shines in all of them".

Sorry I did not mean to hijack your thread with talk of the Sig P320 because it really isn't a "German" gun IMHO. I did pick up a P320 in 45 ACP today and Overall I am pretty happy with it especially at the price I paid! I do think that it is selling better than the PPQ ever has and better than the HK VP9. It might be a matter of price point or the modular nature of the gun but I think that the way it shoots for some people, a subjective criteria, has also aided in its adoption. Sigs heavy marketing presence does not hurt either.

The PPQ and the HK VP9 seem to be doing ok but I sort of see them as niche guns. Outside boards like this the PPQ line is not a great seller. They have a terrible marketing department. I had hoped once they separated from S&W it would get better but it hasn't. People rave about the trigger but I always found it was excellent during slow fire but speed things up it simply did not work for me. I do not know of a single top level competition shooter who uses them. If I am wrong please correct me. If the trigger were as superior as people claim it to be I would think some top competitors would find a way to get it into the holster.

The same things can be said for the HK even though their shooting team uses them. I think price pushes the VP9 out of the range of a lot of casual shooters. Time will tell if they can push sales up and gain more market share. Unfortunately I think a lot of old school HK shooters see the HK VP9 as a watering down of the brand similar to the way Sig shooters looked at the early Sig Pros and the P250.

I personally feel these 2 guns are very similar and for me suffer from the same issues at speed. Something about the grip angle for me.

I bought my P320 totally out of curiosity and was actually pretty biased against it going in. By the time I traded it off I had a lot of respect for it and it served me well for 1000 rds and a day long course. I want to pick up another one at some point. Bills came up and I had to liquidate a good portion of the safe. :(

If folks ever are looking for the caliber exchange kits or grip modules let me know and next time I swing by the SIG Academy Pro Shop I'll take a look.

Some very good guns from Germany for sure. I have a West German Sig 226, HK P-30 and Walther PPQ M1. So I guess I like German guns to an extent. Wouldn't mind having a real German Luger and Walter P38 to go with my other German 9's.

The Southern neighbors on the Germany border are not too bad either. Switzerland (Sphinx) and Austria (Steyr).

HK's VP9 is another German winner.

I've owned my VP9 since it was first introduced and love it. From the grip panel adjustments to the really nice trigger it just works for me and works well. Another feature that some folks don't like has been a real aid for me. The racking assist ears on the rear of the slide bother some folks. I have arthritis and find the ears to be a real benefit. It makes racking the slide so much easier. All in all the VP9 does it well and at a reasonable price point. I own quite a few HK pistols and long arms so I tend to be a fan of the brand in the first place, but the VP9 is a real winner IMHO. At right around $600 it is an affordable HK. Ive never been bothered by their cost in the past, but the VP9's price may make an HK affordable for some folks that can't afford a HK45, P30, USP 45 Tactical, or many of their other offerings. :D

I bought both a Walther PPQ M1 and the HK VP9,both are quality of build and both shoot for me really well.
I carry both on and off,the HK VP9 is a slight larger, and since i carry IWB both with Garret holsters i do notice the difference after a while.
You can't go wrong with buying them both.:)

PPQ here......love the gun in every aspect, until i try to shoot it at speed, hi bore axis and it is not nearly as fast for me as either my glocks or m&ps, way more muzzle flip.

On the other hand ive never had the chance to shoot a 5" and that extea slide and barrel length may be enough to even it out....

Would like to hear what you think about it when shooting it fast....
