I see a problem. Give me one reason LEO's need this.

Wildcard, Sure that's plain enough....:barf:

Your credibility suffers when such claims are made and the poster isn't willing to back up statements made to gain credibility or make a point that demonstrates truthfulness.

But keep up with your virtual insights on LE, some are quite humorous...;)

12-34hom.

When you start to make value judgments on some guy, minding his own business, while carrying two guns and three lights, you open yourself up to arguments by those who would question why you "need to own" even ONE gun. Guess what? They're in the majority and the only thing that keeps them (relatively) at bay is the Constitution and your willingness to "live and let live".

Good one, you have pierced to the flawed heart of WA's elitist argument.

COPS can have the super ninja suits, but only if they make them in XXL so I can have one too.;)

12 34, your comments and insights scare the hell out of me. If Reserves like you are taught to think that way, I shudder to think what Real full time LEO's are taught, concerning Citizens rights.

The problem from my experience is SOME LEOs abuse this and use it as an excuse to violate people's rights. These incidents have shrouded the whole "Officer Safety" claim in a negative light for some (me included).

SOME PEOPLE also abuse firearms, does that equate to not allowing anyone to have a firearm? Of course not. I have no problem with individuals owning one of these suits either. I think I might have issue with these being offered on EBAY, but in general principle, I don't care what the average joe citizen owns. I have a problem with john felon owning a gun, and there are laws against that. Can they still get one? Sure, but it's illegal at least. I'd probably feel the same way about these body armor suits.

But, denying rights to all because of the misuse by one is something I thought all of us stood united against.

IMHO, there are two issues:

1. Should the average joe or mall ninja be allowed to buy a supersuit. Why not?

2. The utilization and police policy. Well, dear readers - that is in your hands. Police policy is still in the hands of a government elected by the people. You can't demand tougher law enforcement, draconian laws on drugs (which lead to many raids), strict policing of the borders, law officers ready for terrorists and all kinds of other stuff without them wanting reasonable gear.

However, then the gear starts being used in day to day incidents (like the WOD) and we get all hot and bothered.

Those uses come from what politicians let them do. Vote those politicians out of office if you don't like it. If you don't like your Mayberry swat team elect a mayor that sheds it.

Be sure if that stuff is bought - it is only utilized for a significant incident and not the marijuana raid on Granny's house.

That's better than worrying about if you can buy one and do your last stand in your atomic underwear faced with a slew of armored law officers.

Use the vote and you don't have to buy the suit.

Well, of course you do. That's because you appear to subscribe to cop-bigotry, as evidenced by your posts.

...<snip>...Today, well actually a week ago, I got pulled over for speeding, which I was guilty of, the officer who pulled me over, on traffic patrol, was wearing BDU's, LBE of some kind, and had his glock on a thigh rig. What is wrong with that picture?

Well...was it today, or a week ago? Is this a true story, or are you making it up?

Nothing wrong with the picture you described.   If you are that intimidated by thigh pockets, you should probably stay indoors.

In addition to the good constitutional reasons already given for not regulating a batman suit, there's also a little bit of cross-discipline history.

A buddy of mine recalls hearing that he had no business wearing 5.11 "tactical" gear as he wasn't LE. He felt compelled to point out that the stuff wasn't "tactical" when he bought it - it was for mountaineering and rock climbing. Turned out it had another use. So suddenly, all the rock climbers have to get along without? How about Royal Robbins? Isn't climbing like, unh, what he does?

Nobody asked Joe Willy if he was defending himself from anti-aircraft fire when he took to wearing a flak jacket. (NY Jets, pantyhose model, giving away my age here.)

Nascar drivers like Nomex just like firefighters do.

It doesn't take a big stretch to picture numerous non-ninja uses for batman fiber. Professional athletes - they're already using kevlar. Spelunkers. Get creative.

I've no issue with civvies getting the stuff and I view mall ninjas with benign amusement. It's never been about need but when one accepts the government tinkering with the mall ninjas' playthings, one runs the risk of losing all the other uses that even <gasp> Tom Diaz might not have an issue with.

Body armor? Can't hurt anybody and for all you know, I'm diving doing shark research. Nobody's business but mine.

But the benign uses angle needs to be brought up - gives me great milage with the occasional million mom (this is Texas; the sightings are rare).
:D

Hmmm... I wonder what the abrasion resistance on something like this would be? With minor mods, it might be THE thing for motorcycles... ;)

I really should have thought of that. My doctor is still laughing over the expression on my face when he came out with that brick-looking affair.

...and I could have sworn I'd gotten all the gravel out the week before when my bike found the mud patch.

Ouchie.

I never noticed a need being a stipulation for receiving my CCW permit or in the 2A. We don't need, tv's, cars, computers or the internet, but we all seem to have them simply because we want them.

Robocop, anyone?

Hey, why stop there?? What "The Government" really needs is Terminator robots - titanium alloy combat chassis walking machines with complete autonomy that can be programmed by "The Government" to roam the streets and "take care of" thugs.

Of course, they would have to also be programmed to "take care of" any pesky "civilians" who refuse to submit and hand over their guns at the next disaster/emergency

-such as the sun going down.:barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

To answer the OP's question "give me one good reason."

It could keep me alive and help me go home at the end of a shift.

That's good enough for me. That was the original question, not "can non-LEO have these" but what's a good reason for LEO to have them

If a man only conceptualises his beliefs before putting them to print, his judgement is suspect. When he fails to stand by them when challenged, his whole character is suspect.:o
