i once thought i had to have a glock

This is me being democratic

Shake,

I was just trying to prove a point. All of the broad overgeneralizations about all the other EXCELLENT combat pistols have been made on this and other boards. If you take a look at my other posts I've always tried to be be as objective as possible. I've owned various 1911's, Sigs (still proudly do), HK's, Berettas, Glocks, and the Browning HP. And they're all equally good in the real world as handguns go. (Until they invent laser guns there really isn't that much difference. 1911's still being a great choice proves that point.) And on that position I will not budge.

The only reason I traded in my HK USP/C was due to the fact it was lemon. I was quite disappointed (like a lot of people would be)at the fact I spent so much money on a gun that didn't function properly. I still feel the sting and that's why I haven't bought another HK....yet. But I'm sure yours are just fine.

When I'm on the range I like the fact people shoot different guns. I'm glad to see everyone's found something different that suits their needs. And whenever someone asked me for advice for their first or next gun I recommend 9mm and above and choose from 1911's, Sigs, Berettas, Walthers, HK's, Glocks, CZ's and even Rugers. I tell them they all have their pros and cons and choose whatever model appeals to them. Boring, but its the right advice.

I think we're all sort of like proud parents who think their kid is the best and the brightest in the class. TFL gives us a forum to talk a little trash.

*And yeah, I've "settled" on Glock because I'm ignorant about quality and I don't like to spend money on guns ;)

Ronh,

The Browning HP is an excellent pistol. No other gun, except the 1911, points or feels as natural in the hand than the HP IMO. Most modern pistols feel kinda clumsy next to the HP. I still regret selling mine 8 years ago and I hope Browning or FN makes them available again.

Hey, Shake,

Next, buy another GLOCK .45 (you'll see why you need a second after completing homework assignment #1) and lodge a bullet in the barrel and fire another behind it.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but obstructed barrel tests are a common feature of LE contract testing regimes these days. SIGs, Glocks, HK's, Rugers, Berettas, *&*'s, etc, have all passed with flying colors at one time or another. HK is just for some reason so proud of it that they use it in their advertising.

As a matter of fact, we just had a shooter cut loose with a hot .45 behind a squib in a Ruger KP-90. Barrel was jugged slightly internally, but gun was still operable after the two bullets were knocked out. Sent gun to Ruger; gun came back with new barrel; owner proceeded to use it to shoot nice tight groups @ 25 yards.

All my Glock mags send the slide home when I seat them. Maybe it's the way I hold the gun, being a lefty, when I seat the mag. Believe me, when I put a mag in the gun, it is SEATED. That is one malf, I've never had.

I'm still tryin to figure out why it is that whenever you mention that you like your Glocks, folks automatically assume it means you don't like other pistols.

If this was not directed at me, I apologize now.

If so, you need to reread my post more carefully. I didn't say a thing about all GLOCK owners hating other brands, just the ones who admit to it (whether or not they've ever used another brand). I like my GLOCKs as well as my other guns. They are no better or worse than the others.

9mm ammo. - NATO standard, available almost anywhere in the world.

... and how often are you going to be taking that 17 to other parts of the world for survival? Heck, how often will you be ABLE to take it to other parts of the world?

Glocks are great guns. Ones I've owned never let me down. Some are atrociously inaccurate compared to others but that doesn't take away from the design.

Ya da da da they're combat handguns with combat accuracy. But I'd still like my 'combat handgun' to shoot a group better than a shotgun pattern i.e. G23.

On the other hand, my G17 and G30 are deadly accurate :)

I've shot enough lead downrange to realize that if I'm more accurate than Brand X gun, it ain't worth keep'n :)

i like my Glock 26. small and ugly. just like me :D. anyways i like ugly guns, i don't feel guilty when i scrath and ding the gun

Actually, a lot of plastic framed guns do that. All of my Glocks and USPs do that, and so does my friends Walther P99.

This was first pointed out to me by a friend of mine who owns a gunshop, so he sees it a lot.

Funny, I had the same thoughts about my G21, except that it's BIG and ugly (just like me). :D

I like having a 9mm in the collection for the fun of it and the cheap brass. But the reason listed about intrigues me. When was the last time you were in say istanbull and needed some 9mm ammo for your glock. A world standard is of little use to most of use who can not carry overseas.

I have not had the opportunity to take the G17 out of the country.

The G17 was acquired as a survival tool.
If some TEOTWAWKI situation came up, and I needed to leave the U.S. with a handgun, it would be the G17.

The 9mm is the most common centerfire pistol cartridge in the world. All NATO countries have stockpiles of 9mm.

Even in the U.S., I think that the 9mm is the most widely available centerfire caliber for a semi-auto. If a store sells ammo, they are likely to have 9mm.

The Colt Combat Commander is my favorite, but in a survival situation, I'll take the Glock.

I just don't believe the argument about buying the ever so popular 9mm NATO anywhere in world has any merit.

Sure there's a slight possibility that TSHTF someday. Sure there's an even slimmer possibility that John Doe will escape outta of the US. Sure there's an EVEN slimmer possibility that Mr. Doe will be able to take a pistol with him.

You can use the argument that 9mm ammo is readily availabe in just about any gun shop. However, go into any gun shop and you'll also find .45 ACP, 30'06, etc etc etc.

Pick and choose what you wish. It's your right. After all, you're ultimately the one who has to be happy with the choosen firearm.

As for the SHTF scenerio, I'll stick to my hi capacity, evil assault rifles over a pistol. ;)

I live that line...
That isn't a Glock in his hand and I believe it looks very similiar to a 'nickel plated sissy pistol' :D

I could never cause the slide to "slam home" when inserting mags on my Glock 21. I tried slamming those mags in HARD, and I tried tilting the slide at several angles. It never worked. I think I would have broken something, or launched the gun right out of my hand if I had tried any harder.

I have never bothered trying with my USP. Is there some trick to it that I am missing?

I shot a "nickel plated sissy gun" at the range tonight - a Colt 1991A1. Nice piece, 2-3 FTF's out of 100 rounds. Nice trigger, I was pretty accurate with it. Sub 4 inch (5 shot) groups at 25 yards, which is pretty good for me. I'm gonna have to get me one of those sissy guns sometime :)

The guy next to me was shooting his USP9f for the first time. He told me that he was a Sig man, but he loved the new USP more and more after every shot. I smiled, nodded my head, and said "I know, I know. I have one too" :)

Maybe I'm just lucky then! Over on glocktalk.com, I think you can find several other folks who's glock do the same thing. It really allows you to put some rounds downrange nice and quick! Empty a mga, dop it, insert other mag, slide drops when I seat it, reaquire and keep blasting away.
