A CWP or CCW Permit does not count toward anything in the background check here in Colorado. It used to bypass check requirements in Florida, but not sure if it still does.
If the name is very common lwould a change in name help? Something like Abdullah Hussein wouldn't be a very common name in the US... sorry I'm just trying to give you guys a little smile. josh
Just relax dude, delays are commonplace. Wait the prescribed time and see what happens. NICS should have told your dealer that it was okay to transfer the firearm if they don't contact them by a certain date.
Look into the laws relating to CCW in your state - as noted by others, in some states CCW holders bypass the background check, having been vetted heavily for the CCW permit. No background check for each purchase, no more denials.
I can't figure out the right search string to figure out if that's the way PA works or not.
You should factor this experience into your buying habits. I have bought and paid for a gun at a gun show only to be denied. A week later, after approval, and I am driving 4 hours each way to pick up the gun. Lost wages made the cost twice normal. The bad thing is that it will happen sometimes and not others. You can't predict it.
People have been denied for having been court martialed while in the service. I believe a conviction from the two highest levels are the same are felony convictions in criminal court.
I was delayed on my first handgun purchase - no apparent reason for it. I was instantly approved for the subsequent 2 other purchases after. Now I have a CHL, so the NICS check is a thing of the past...
You will be okay. We hire a lot of people and run background checks on everyone. Every now and again, someone comes back with the same name of some one who committed a crime and further research is required. If you've got no skeletons in your closet, you'll be fine.
Typical. If your name even faintly resembles somebody who's run afoul of the law, they'll put a hold on your application. Be patient, it will work out.
When the election flap occured in Fla. during Bush's first election one of the things that struck me was that a couple of thousand (2-3 thousand if I recall right) folks were ruled as ineligable to vote because they were listed as convicted felons on voting rolls. It turned out that they were not convicted of any felony's. They had at one time or another been arrested and charged with a felony though.
It struck me at the time that these same folks might turn up and be banned from legally owning a handgun due to crossed wires somewheres or the other.
I've been on the "no fly" list for several years now and have to go through rigamarole whenever I fly.
I usually get approved with in 10 minutes however I would get all but strip searched when trying to board a plane. However I haven't had that problem. It could be because a similar name to mine was removed from the no fly list or it could be because I have gained a bunch of weight and no one wants to strip search a fat guy
My local FFL who often sells at gun shows told me he get's alot more denials from gun show sales than in-store sales. He attributes this to people with criminal backgrounds thinking there is less scrutiny at gun shows.
Now, in Texas you don't have to be an FFL to sell firearms at gun shows and you don't have access to the background check process. Til now I have always sold guns through my FFL, paying a 20% consignment fee. I would like to sell at gun shows and avoid the fee but am worried about unknowingly selling to a felon and held liable for the firearm being used to commit a crime.
Is this the so called gun show loophole and what can be done regarding liability?
My wife gets approved in a snap. It takes me anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours, but that was only because I didn't have time to wait, and told them I'd pick it up the next day. Figure and hour or two for me. I've never been denied, or officially "delayed," it just seems to take a while.
