I am so sick of it...

I've had my hipoint for 8 years, it still works. BUT , just like on the first day i bought it , it will jam on the 7th round. Nothing has changed about it

And how many times have I read people on this very board say, "save a little longer" and buy a gun of quality? I had personally read up a long time before I bought my first gun, and I've read a fair bit before buying pretty much all of my handguns,

CZ-75B polycoat
Ruger Mark III 22/45 blued
GP100 4" stainless
SP101 3.16" stainless
NAA Guardian .32 auto stainless

Maybe that isn't the kind of list that draws the ire of the original poster, but they all seem to be choices you could argue for; not junk guns. I will admit that I came to gun ownership late, and having a solid financial life helps put the hobbies on solid footing too.

My first rifle was a little .22lr semi-auto Marlin. My first handgun was actually a little Jennings .32acp semi-auto pistol which I still had until just recently. Shortly after getting it I bought a Taurus .22mag revolver. Then a Taurus .357mag revolver that I also still had until recently.
Which of these three shot you in the foot?! :D

I just got my first gun the other day, and it's a Luger with a very low serial number of 3. I got a smoking deal on it at a pawn shop.

I took it out to the range, and it fired the first round but after that it jammed on every second round no matter what kind of .45 ammo I tried in it, so I'm going to trade it for something else, like a Taurus or a Ruger.

:D :D :D :D :D

Edit: Some of you will get this to be sure. :D

Penguin, congrats on your moral victory over Sam's Sphincter Emporium. I live in AZ and I have heard "tales" about him and his ego.

Well, the first handgun I bought was a Model 19 Smith & Wesson...

But years before that, when I was REALLY broke, I absolutly lusted for an RG-22 and a Raven 25. I was so broke I couldn't even afford those however.

Does that count as "paying my dues?" ;):D

My first one was a Sterling .22. It could shoot 1 round in a row without jamming.

I should be good to get anything I want now. I served my time.

This really goes both ways though -

A friend of mine paid almost $2,000.00 for his first handgun. On the other hand, I know someone who after 20 + years of buying firearms, has no desire to ever work his way up to the expensive stuff.

For example, when he finds out what someone paid for this or that, He'll say things like, " Do you know how many Hi Points you could have bought for that! "

And sure, he's joking a little. But for the most part, he is being completely serious. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that, If he's content. That's just how he is.

It's not for me though - As I am always on the quest for that Grail gun.

Is that to say that a first-time buyer should not save and wait for a better gun?

I started small too: a Ruger 10/22, but I've worked my way up to an M1A. And that was before I graduated high school. In the Corps, I still buy guns, but only on leave, so its more rare. I made myself happy with that .22 until my M1A was in the safe. Thats because I waited and saved my paychecks for a quality rifle.

maby the younger generation has listened to some of us middle aged shooters. i have tried to teach my son (22) not to buy junk, save money for the gun that u wont regret.
ps- my first gun a security six 1977 (around 200.00), i still have it, my son wants it, probably not a bad buy for a young man back then...:D

No junk first gun for me!

My first gun that I bought myself was a Remington 870 SPS with a synthetic stock. I'ts been 20 years since I bought it but still have that one and use it often. My first handgun was a S&W 686 with a 6" barrel, walnut grips, and the smoothest trigger I have ever felt. I paid $300 OTD for it at a gun show and thought I did very well. Decided to go into law enforcement and needed a 4" barrel so traded it in on a 686+ with a 4" barrel and while nice, it never was as butter smooth as the first 686. Through 2 divorces and changing jobs both of those have been sold off but I still miss that 1st 686!:o I may have to remedy that this year but I really doubt I can find another one for $300.

I just got my first gun, and it's a Korth...

NIB...

$50 at a yard sale.

Still had the tag in the box.

$5,000.

Let your brain dwell on that for awhile. :D

My first gun I bought was in 1969 a H&R 22LR nine shot revolver. Double action and made in the early 1940s. I paid $40.00 plus tax in Tucson AZ for the gun. I have worked up to my current collection of Smiths and Rugers.
It took me several paychecks making a $1.25 an hour to save up to buy my first revolver. I worked in a gas station pumping gas and servicing cars.
Now a days young people are given cars, cell phones etc by their parents and don't have a job to earn the money to buy them.

My, how times have change,

My first handgun was a .36 Navy reproduction, well used and very cheap. The charging lever released every other shot. I paid all of $30 or so with a powder flask. I had to shoot that for several years until I could afford a cartridge gun. I kept it loaded in the house though. I think the cloud of smoke would have run-off any BG.

My first gun was a Hi-Point C9, but I was 40 and on a tight budget, and wasn't sure how much I'd take to shooting regularly.

My second gun was a Sig P229. I sold the HP. Still have the Sig. :D

I think my first was a MAB PA-15,a single action, rotary barrel lock doublestack 9mm.Nice for $75 NIB.Traded it for a Colt SAA,NIB,45Colt.Then There was the Lahti,The High Standard GD,The Super Blackhawk,(I still have)
The High Standard Victor,....

On the lower end of what I have bought,my Taurus 5 shot 44 spl snubby and a PA-63.They work fine.

I have never regretted buying a tool that was too good.

I have never bought my handguns at Harbor Freight
