Hunting dog names

Hello, I just picked up a yellow lab for hunting. He is a male with a very light coat.He is 8 weeks old. I need to find a good name for him. I need your help!!! Please let me know if you have any good hunting dog names. Thank You.

My last lab was named Jake, easy to say and it (the sound of the name being called) seemed to carry well in field and woods.

Be sure to pick a name that rolls off the tongue well when preceded or followed by your favorite profanity.;)
Seriously though, there is a lot to be said for a short one syllable name that starts with a consanant. Jake, Jack, Tom, Buck, Bill, Dan, etc. Try to avoid the name of your huntin buddies.
It works real good to wait a few days, getting to know the little feller, and a good name will come to fit him.
My dog's regestered name was Aspendales Gunsmoke. We just shortened it to Gunner, and now thats who he is. He answers to Gunner, Gundog, Gunsmoke, or click-click.
I envy you the fun you're about to have, and in some ways --not so much.jd

I prefer a 2 syllable word with the final being a "long" E sound. Some of mine were...
1)tick aka "tickie"
2)Shady
3)Rookie
4)deadly
5)rosie
I think the first part gets there attention headed your way and the "E" sound is akin to the "ahh-EEE" I holler out to let them dogs out in the woods know I am ready to move on or head home...

G'day, try something like these.
'Go away'
'Come here'
'Go way back'
'Whats the' or 'wotthe'
'Bluy'
'Red dog'
If you can whistle well, just use one whistle for the dogs 'name'

Got stuck one time with a beagle named Cletus. Guys made fun till they hunted behind him. One friend of mine never did stop calling him clitoris:rolleyes:. Anyway probably best dog I ever hunted behind belonged to a friend. Dogs name was Whiskey. Trainers recommend keeping dogs names short, usually one syllable. Gus,Jet,Czar,Max,Bo,Bear are some of the names I` ve used. Congrats on your pup. Goodluck!

Labs are gun dogs, there are some good gun names for a huntin' dog...Remmy, Winchester, etc.

I have a Chocolate Lab and I named her "Kimber"....

BTW, I am not a fan of Kimber firearms, I just think it's a good name for a Huntin' dog:D

I named my German Shorthaired Pointer "Mauser" for obvious reasons. I love the girls at the vet's office that mispronounce his name. They need to get to the range more. lol. He's a great dog.

Butch
I like Mauser. Good One Pilot!
Tony
Spike
Buster
Smoky

It needs to just roll off your tongue. You'll be using it a lot.... No xxx, No xxx, NO xxx, Good boy xxx.

Had a dog named Moe once. It never really sang to me however.

First dog I had I got to name, Jake was a good dog. Since then my kids have taken the honors. Thats how I wound up with one bird dog named Fozzie Bear, and a second one named Elmo. Both good dogs but people give you funny looks when you are running through the field yelling for fozzie, or elmo.

Barney? Nick? I've always liked a solid, strong sounding human name. Helps keep folks from baby talkin to the dog. One of our vets likes to baby talk to my dog, Gunner, and the dog gets his back up every time. jd

They were never hunting dogs, but my beagles have been named:

sam. usually called sammie.
fred. mostly went by freddy.
princess (name selected by ex-wife). she became woofie after ex left.
wilma. usually called willie.

all girls. I wanted to name princess joe.

i guess I like the "ee" sound at the end of a dog name.

My English yellow lab, Rose.

Pretty good name for a girl if you ask me.

That girl in her younger days could whip any male:D
