How do you carry your spare mag for CCW?

If I carry a spare mag I usualy carry it in the same back pocket as my wallet. The wallet helps to break up its outline.

That said I usualy do not carry a spare mag. I carry a spare gun. If both fail I hope I can hide, or run like hadees is on my tail.

There are lots of nylon folding knife pouches on the market for minimum dollars and the large ones will fit most magazines. Spend a few bucks and get one. With the flap snapped down it keeps your mag secure and if anyone sees it they won't freak out. I can't even imagine carrying something as bulky as a magzine in my pants pocket and sitting on one is bad for your spine and the magazine.

I don't carry a spare mag. If 15 .40 caliber rounds won't do the job
I'm not convinced that 15 more will help that much.

Yeah what he said!
And yes I've been in the People's Republic of New York way too long. Can't wait to move to a free state.

It's not all about the number of rounds...
It's about the quickest resurrection of a failure, typically mag-related and can be rectified by a quick swap.

Spare mag is in a belt clip pouch on the off side. Not going to get into what is right or wrong as what works for my may not you. I carry that way and carry a spare because I feel the potential for using it. My personal preferences do not fit many others. Just a thought. Carrying a concealed handgun is a change in dress, lifestyle and awareness.

Been carrying concealed for about 40 years. Carrying on duty only the past 22 years.

Best in what you choose

spare mag carrier

I keep a small camera case on my belt at 8:00, with cell phone in main pocket and Elsie Pea's spare mag in the accessory pocket. Elsie is in my right front pants pocket.

Sorry but I don't see a need to carry an extra mag in a CCW environment, As I see it, CCW is for self defense, not a "Tactical" deployment.... Buy a reliable sidearm that your comfortable with, and practice a lot, Chances are you'll never have to use it (hopefully) and if you do, I highly doubt you'll have a mag malfunction with a reliable weapon, or need to reload in a defensive situation, If you see yourself in a situation where your going to need more than 6 to 15 rounds, you've been watching too much T.V. or you have other intentions than "Defense" Just my 2 cents:cool:

No I do not.

Guess I was watching too much TV at this past Saturdays IDPA match when I had a jam after my first shot(factory ammo, new magazine). Racked the slide and had to drop the magazine to clear the jam and as the magazine came out so did 3 rounds hitting the ground.

I would say with out a doubt that a extra magazine is a good thing to have. I as was state did not anticipate a "malfunction" and had one right out of the gate. just glad it was a shooting match and not a SD match. I am sure it would have had a poor out come on my part.

IDPA is practice shooting. If that jam happens to you when you are six feet away from a guy pointing a gun at you or even reaching for one, best of luck on the speed drills.

Strange being how much we spend on guns and holsters and a $30-$40 mag pouch is too expensive?

It's not about how much you invest in the gun. It has everything to do with if you look at the materials and what it takes to make one, 30 to $40 is just out of line. They think that since you just dropped $600 on a gun you won't hesitate to drop $40 on accessories. I just think prices like that are outa line. I've gotten mine off of ebay. Watch for a bit and what you want will come up, pretty much every style shows up on there. I just bought a really nice double leather pouch with snap closures for $13 including shipping (I was the only bidder). It was supposed to be new with blemish, I can't see the blemish myself, looks brand new. Snagged a single a while back for less than $15. btw - I like the knife pouch idea. I also don't carry a spare mag. My gun holds 15 rounds and I'm of the belief that if I have to change magazines to get the gun to work then I'm already screwed. The gun better just work right the first time. If I switch to a smaller gun that only holds 6 or 7 rounds and has a small single stack magazine, then I'd be inclined to carry a spare (in a knife pouch :) ).

I thought the question was HOW do you carry a spare and not whether you should. Nor do we need insults about how those who do are paranoid or lack the awesome spider sense and situational awareness of some in whom the Force is strong.

I mentioned this before.

The issue of planning for the rare but intensive critical incidents is well covered in other threads. Here's a giant thread on GT that makes all the rational points, has the insults and other internet fun and games. http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1381546

So stay on topic here. If you don't carry a spare, then that's all you need to say. Get it!

Belt pouch type, or cargo pocket; yesterday I put a double pouch type in a cargo pocket. Coat pocket, sometimes.

As far as ak2323 goes, if the BG is that close, use of movement and/or MA skills may be crucial. Training for those is not a bad idea.

I would hope that I would not wait for the BG to be 6 feet away before a draw and shoot. IMO 6' is hand to hand distance. Just my opinion and if you feel you do not need a spare mag don't carry one.

Yes IDPA is a game and for now the closest I can get to a actual gun fight for what I can afford money wise training at this time.

Didnt mean to offend anyone, Guess I should have just said that "I dont carry a spare, but if I did, I would agree with some previous posts that stress buying a quality mag pouch that you can rely on and feels good to you"

Depends on which gun I'm carrying as to whether I will take a spare mag along or not.

When I do carry a spare mag, it's loose in my left front pants pocket, or if I'm wearing a jacket, it may go in the left front jacket pocket instead.
