Hillary... Is It Possible??

alaska........

Me too.......

She has a heck of a lot more to offer than the Senator from New York.

She has a compass......... I have to think it points north most the time.....

The Senator from NY.........likely has never seen, used or understands what a compass is.......

We have a real hum-dinger executive here in Michigan. We are dead last for unemployment now......... and it just gets better every minute. ;)

Wild, I think Condi is too smart to be president. I would vote for her in a minute but the truth of the matter is that too many people want a goofball for president. How else can you explain a guy who let himself get caught with an unlit cigar and a 19 year old intern? Of course that could be a negative for Hillary too if the Republicans could get together on a campaign to make her elitism more obvious.

maybe she is, but she can win

We just got to convince her to run...she could energize this country better than anyone since that bag of dirt JFK

For what it's worth, I could not vote for Ms. Rice. It's really nothing to do with her politics, but rather her character. On the plus side, she is clever, and also has chutzpah, but, I don't think I've ever seen a public figure with such a brazen disregard for the truth. I am not going to lose any sleep over it, that's for sure, but do hope that she will not wind up as the GOP candidate. I do think she will run... unless she elects to get another season's experience first, as Ms. Clinton did.

Well... I wasn't an adult when Tricky Dick was making his mischief, but I remember hearing about if from the big folks alright... also saw Slick Willie say "I did not have sex with that woman".... so, I am not claiming Ms. Rice invented the art of telling whoppers as a public official (expect that's an ancient art that goes back to the Egyptian times :( ), just that she is particularly brazen about it.

I saw some of her performances around the 9/11 commission hearings... she was being asked, in front of the committee, under oath and on camera seen around the world, very direct questions by people who became increasingly frustrated by her evasions, anything to avoid actually answering any questions. The answers she did give were disingenuous at best. She really just made a mockery of the entire thing - I thought it a disgusting display - both her impudence and the impotence of the committee to really do anything about it, and was ashamed for my country.

Now, I suppose that you could say that Mr Bush and Mr Cheney were worse - they refused to even testify under oath or to testify separately, and also refused to allow their "testimony" to be filmed, recorded or transcribed or even the notes to be made public. I have no doubt that they didn't shed much light on things and were operating in pure CYA mode. Somehow, though, that kind of passive obstruction (more like Nixon's) angered me less than seeing Rice actively obstructing and being downright indignant about it; she really had no shame. It seems that those at the top are simply above the law, that they can do anything. That notion doesn't make me feel real warm and fuzzy - you know what they say about absolute power.

Carbine: The reason Condi made a mockery of the 1911 Commission is because she was dealing with people deserving of being mocked.

As to the paucity of good candidates being unique to the South, that's pretty naive. The "best" people in the U.S. are too bright and too involved in capitalism, raising their families, etc., to require politics as a measure or vehicle of their success. Politics begs for and acquires mediocrity.

Wanna do a "literacy check" for those 100,000 Democrats who couldn't find their way out of NO? :D

So you really think Condi would run too? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they ask Powwell to run for pres a while back and he turned them down??

Yep, that's true - Mr. Powell was asked to run, and this was during a time when his approval rating was untouchable.... and if I recall, he cited his family as the reason for not going for it. It's also true that there was a lot of speculation that Powell would be the candidate. Powell always struck me as more of a technocrat than a politician (more of a workhorse than a showhorse) - he didn't seem to have that intense desire for the limelight.

I am not betting the farm that Ms. Rice will run, but, she has no husband or children to think about compromising for, and seems very ambitious, seems to like showmanship, so, I expect she will have a go at it. Maybe not this time, she may feel she needs more seasoning, as Ms. Clinton did. But either the next election or the following one, I would not be at all surprised to see Ms. Rice out on the stump.

First off, +1 WildAlaska ... I'm all for Condi. She's pro 2A, is she not? I seem to recall reading that she is up at 4 every morning and she plays classical piano. Does Hillary "We Are The President" have any talents ... other than being very good at giving me the creeps when I see her on TV ... every time?

As for Hillary "We Are The President", her chances look pretty good to me. The country is so polarized that Kerry nearly pulled it off. I usually try to avoid the term, but even I know he's downright "liberal". She could do it. Don't underestimate her.

Sheesh ... what if she won? Last election, the Blue Staters made all kinds of limp-wristed threats about moving to Canada (I was all for it) ... but where would WE go? Are there any gun-toting "civilized" (though I use that term hesitantly) countries left in this world?

I didn't think Bill had a chance but he got elected twice. So yes she has a chance. Run Mc Cain or Guiliana and I would think about voteing for her. None of them are worth a dam. I think Jeb is going to run. Daddy started us toward the world govt. Son is working hard at it .so why not run little brother. :barf: Even the Kenndys could pull that off.

I think the press/media/box office is pretty much trying to pave the way for a female president (ie Hillary). Has anyone seen the previews for that new show, Commander in Chief? It premiers in about 2 weeks (Sept. 27th, just looked it up). While it's not set up as an elected female president, the correlations between creating a show like that and Hillary running in 08 are eerily similar. People (sheeple) will watch that show and start to think that a female president might be a pretty decent idea!

Now maybe that will go the other way, if Condi runs.

Yep, new TV show and it all looks so wonderful and happy. Shame some people can't tell the difference between life and the land of make believe and think Comm In Chief is Gospel truth huh? Makes me shutter to think what they'll put on TV next and what others will follow it.

In this corner...

Well, I think that in the US, where we've never had a woman president, there are still many people that simply would not vote for a woman.

However, it is *possible* that the actual presidential race will be contested between two women, going mano a mano. In that case, the "nonwoman" vote won't exist. At a serious level, I just hope the voters get the best two candidates to choose from, whatever their sex. At a less serious level, I think it would be interesting and historical to have two female candidates vying for the Presidency. Wouldn't be the SOS, anyway then :D .

She already did in 92 and 96, remember during the 92 campaign she said your'e getting 2 for the price of one! Sadly I think it could happen, Carter got in, Mr. Clinton got in twice, Gore almost made it. The fems will come out in force and they will be the deciding factor as well as the youth of voting age who haven't a clue who or what they are voting for, they are MTV puppets and will do as the puppetmaster tells them, vote Hillary!!!! I see it as Chaos like never before on capitol hill and America will be devided almost to the point of hatred. I think there are few republicans who will be enticing to the middle roaders, perhaps McCain but he isnt a real Republican and will turn off hard rightwingers. I like Rice myself as a VP but am not sure she can pull it off as the primary.

My money's on Condi if they come down to boxing gloves though! She looks tougher (and I'm sure Hilly detests violence, especially if she is directly involved!)
