Help a skinny guy out

I tried the 1-2 position today; did not work. Felt horrible, especially sitting down;
Sorry. I'm 5'11, 220lbs and it works great for me. Been carrying that way for almost 3 years now.

Alright, report after adjusting the cant on the SuperTuck.

It was MUCH better today. The shirt I was wearing was a little short, so it did get hung up, but not as much, and it was also more comfortable. I think this may work after all!

If you should decide to go to a shoulder holster, these shirts from 5.11 have little metal snaps for fast access. Also have a few other features you may like. (:eek:OH! They're buy one, get one FREE right now!! Code at check out is 511covert) They have short sleeved ones too. Also, they're in your price range for shirts! :D

They also have nice belts! They've got a plastic stiffener in them, which is great for holster duty! I love the one I got! http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/Law-Enforcement/Accessories/Belts/Leather-Casual-Belt-15/D/30100/P/1:100:10000:10900:10906/I/59501-59502

I'm 5'10", 165. Some of my CCW semiautos are roughly the size of your XD 40SC. I've had the best luck with a simple IWB suede Bianchi clip-on holster. With that on I carry right side towards my front 6, just past the front pocket. Even in jeans (I don't wear loose fitting jeans either) it's been comfortable and I can bend down also. BUt of course I have to wear my shirt untucked or a sweater/sweatshirt. I have the same problem a few others have with printing when I use my paddle hostlers worn on the side or even slight towards my backside. I won't use a SOB hoslter, I don't want to risk back injury if I fell on it. I also use a shoulder holster from time to time, Bianchi too I think, that for small/med framed pistols does not require you to wear a belt.
I also wear my lightweight pistols in a place that's different and to some maybe a little strange, because it is.;) I have an ankle holster, and for me wearing it around my ankle would be totally useless since 9 times out of 10 I'm wearing jeans which makes a difficult draw even more so. But with a small extra piece of velcro, a couple of inches, I'm able to strap the ankle holster under my upper arm. With a lightweight gun it's not uncomfortable and it sits basically in the pit of my arm, is very accessible and is very well hidden a jacket. It's a strange place to carry, I know, but it's worked for me.

Damn Soup beat me to it. I was also going to suggest shoulder holster. I'm 6' 130 lbs (on a good day) and a shoulder holster was the only thing I was going to go for (Springfield Champion 4" barrel). IF you sit at a desk all day, the comfort is second to none. Those shirts are nice but expensive. Try wearing a t-shirt and a button down short sleeve shirt unbutton. Your firearm will disappear. Try http://www.lapolicegear.com for some awesome deals on them. Wait for em to go on clearance :D I'd also poke around and look at their apparel section, they might have some stuff that you can use.

5-10 and 160, I pocket carry most of the year and have no printing problems with either a Kahr PM9 or Smith 637 ... when I belt carry either of those, it's usually cross-draw, so the gun lies flat against my front rather than the narrower side view.

+1 on the PM9. While I recently had to get rid of mine, it was perfect for central Texas (Austin) carry whether IWB, OWB, or pocket carry.

I'm hoping to get another one in 2010, this time with the blackened stainless slide.

Wrothgar:

5 o'clock carry will print with XD's. The XD has less of a grip angle than a glock, so it sticks out farther from the slide resulting in greater print possibility.

The XD, I've personally discovered (with a fullsize XD9), isn't a terribly comfortable gun to carry. The slide is wide, the grip pokes out unless carried very close to 3 o'clock, and the grip has to be carried high and raked forward to accomodate the striker firing system and getting your hand into the grip window properly.

I have yet to find a better gun to carry every day IWB than a lightweight commander pattern 1911. A 4" or 4.25" barrel, aluminum frame to lighten the weight, and the single stack .45 design.

Something I am considering buying is a Kel Tec PF9. Single stack, thinner even than the 1911. Smaller than a J-frame revolver.

But: You should be able to adapt your carry method with your current XD subcompact. Move it to 3:30 or so. Rake the grip forward (FBI cant) a bit, so the grip window presses in towards your kidney and the grip kind of wraps around you.

5 o'clock on me actually doesn't print, and there is no way I'm carrying it on my front as it juts into my leg while I'm sitting at work all day.

What 5 o'clock does do is cause the gun to get snagged on my shirt EVERY TIME I stand up from sitting or bend over slightly.

I'm seriously thinking of just trading it for a S&W 442. I'm not going to want to carry this thing in the summer as it is. I would really really like a Kahr PM 9/40/45, but they're just way out of my budget, which would have to be something at or below $500; those PMs are about $650.

trying not to overthink this....but if you like your weapon and your weapon likes you...get an oversized hillfinger denim shirt and you can carry a cannon under and not print;)

Wrothgar,

I am sorry the canting didn't help much. I have one more suggestion. I was at a gun show a couple weeks ago and purchased one of these. It is sort of like a shoulder holster + belly band combination, but you wear it up higher than your stomach (up under your pecs, in fact). And you wear it under a shirt as opposed to under a jacket.

I always wear an undershirt (t-shirt in the winter, wife-beater in the summer), so this goes over the undershirt. The rig is pretty comfortable, and although the butt of the gun prints a little, it is hard to see being as it prints under my arm. Plus I can carry a spare mag under the other arm easily.

I love traditional belt holsters, but they don't get along well with some of the low-rise jeans I wear. This rig is just the ticket for that.

Just another suggestion....

Sorry, the cant DID help some; it doesn't get hung up as much, but it certainly does with some of my tighter fitting collared button up shirts, which is pretty much all I wear... the gun is just so fat!
