I guess it all depends on your perspective. From my viewpoint I think police and firefighteres are held in HIGHER regard than the military. I am a retired Army office who served 24 years, still working in the health care industry. I find the most common reaction by people who find out that I served, and served for that long, is surprise, as in "I wonder why he stayed in the Army instead of finding a real job?". On the other hand, my youngest grown son was in law enforcement and when I told others about him there was universally positive comments made. Personally I respect and appreciate those who serve, both in the military and in civilian occupations where one willingly puts themself in harm's way to protect others. Thank you for your service in both realms. Don't be discouraged, there are many folks like me who are grateful to men like you who are holding the line against anarchy and barbarism every day.

Never served in military... however I am an emergency services worker.

Not trying to hype or anything just a comment.

On 2nd note I seen an ad today at Gander Mountain this week 10% off purchase (5% firearms) for military, law enforcement, and emergency services workers. Thought that was pretty cool. :)

I serve my country from January toApril every year. Or is it the first week of every month? First two hours of every work day? IDK, my Dad and his accountant figured it out for him once and they found he serves until mid June every year.

Thanks Vito. It is appreciated and I guess you're right. It's a matter of perspective. For what it's worth I know how hard it is to be an officer in the military. Demanding work. All too often those of us who were enlisted only looked at that fact that officers lived a little better. Many of us didn't understand that there were other pressures that officers had to deal with that were not visible.
