I wanted to serve, but my physical condition at the age of 18-19 was terrible, that's not to mention flat feet and awful cardio endurance (I hav been running for years now and barely manage 4 miles in about 35 minutes! Abysmal!) by the time I was 21 I had lost about 50 pounds and regularly worked out. I was thinking about following several good friends into the Marine corps... Ended up married instead.

I planned on being a police officer as a career for as long as I can remember, all I ever wanted to do really. During my testing to get into the academy found out that I have some weird eye problem that causes me to fail the depth perception test even though I have 20/20... So that didn't happen either. Found all that our just after I got married, very hard to deal with at first, huge paradim shift. :(

Missed opportunities.

Most of my family has been Navy (father, two uncles) or national guard (three cousins, two uncles) and I have one uncle in the Marines. Plus most of my HS friends went into the army or marines. I'm damn proud to be associated with so many good men and women!

I had the opporunity to enlist but being a dumb schumuck teenager I was convinced not to. Now at 34 I regret not doing it every day.

Two deployments overseas with the Guard, 90-91 and 97. (both FRG again)

I served in the Army from 1985 to 1988. I was stationed at Fort Hood Texas in 3/67 Armor, 2nd Armored Division. Sadly, the division does not exist any longer.

It's interesting to see the diversity of branch and service here...everything from fighter pilots to Navy commo specialists.
