Hated calibers

I think the closest I've come to sounding like that is when I said, .40, the 10mm for pansies.

That would be me...

Sooooooo.....9x19 and .45ACP are basically the only ones you like P99AS9?:)

Don't hate any, just don't trust some to do what they were designed to do. Two years ago a cop in my hometown (phoenix,az) had to shoot a pit bull 9 times with a .40 S&W before it went down, one of the rounds actually bounced off of its head! Ever since then I have been skeptical about any round that does not hit at least 1200 fps for SD

I don't even know where to begin to debunk a caliber story like that one. Suffice it to say, If you believe that a .40 S/W cannot bring down a pitbull after that one story, then you are criminally gullible.

Your right, I don't trust factory .45 loads, I carry a .357 magnum. And the shots were all center mass, I watched it on the news twice. The dog was also a monster sized dog though, and the round bounced directly off and I think it actually hit the officer thats how he noticed. The way I remember it happening was this: The dog showed up in the back yard of a house in a low end neighborhood and attacked a 2 or 3 year old hispanic toddler who was out playing. The family dog ( I think it was a german sheperd) attacked the pitbull, but the family dog was old and quickly got run down. The boys teenage sister came out with the knife and stabbed the dog 13 times, they actually showed the knife, and they did do an autopsy on the dog, just because of how hard it went down. The dog tore the girl up a little bit, but ended up running off to the side of the house just as the cop showed up(the girl called while the dogs were fighting) the cop went around to the side and the massive dog charged him, he emptied half the clip of his glock into it and it fell dead inches from his feet. Ill try to find a link for it.

I don't dislike .40, I just would not place my life on it in a self defense situation against animals. In the end any gun is better than no gun or a knife, and I would feel remarkably safer hiking with a .22 then I would unarmed. .357 magnum is the smallest caliber in a revolver I would place my familys life on in a really really bad situation. For autos there are really only 2: 10mm and .357 sig. Both decent sized rounds that reach high velocities.

An officer in Evansville shot a woman in the head with a 9mm. Immediately after she was shot, she held her hand to her head and said "You shot me!" The Evansville Police Department issues .45s now.

If it goes bang I love it. It should be noted, however, that just because I love it doesnt mean that I will own it.

There's one cartridge that I see no reason why it's even in existence other than to provide serious compensation....the S&W .500. So, I guess there's one I don't care about...

P99AS9 that post was like the opening to spaceballs. hahahah. Good one.

What the heck is wrong with .25acp? I like plinking with mine. It won't end a bg problem, but it will take you closer to the end than just going hand to hand with out it. You put a few in the aggressor, and your hand to hand just got a little easier, and shorter. Or just run away, 2 or 3 bg's would have a time chasing you down to do harm with a .25 or two in their guts. It's better than nothing.

I only hate the calibers that are coming at me.

Why own a 9 mm

A lot of people like the 9mm and I will admit it is fun to shoot, most all cartridges are! I would never use one for self defense unless the only alternative was a very small ROCK! I have this thing about self defense rounds should start with a 4:). I do sometimes carry a Taurus 3 inch model 85 in 38 special but my normal carry is a Taurus snub nosed 44 Special loaded with 200 grain Gold Dot hollow points. In an expansion test I did years ago it expanded very well and penetration while good was not excesive.

I also have a S&W 4006 and like it but do not carry it very often. I perfer the dependibility of a Revolver.

Have a great day. I have been enjoying your comments.

Well...here's a caliber everyone is supposed to hate but which I'm reconsidering: .22 in CCI Stingers. Before you snarl w/ contempt, consider:
1) ammo is AVAILABLE both for practice (bulk Fed or Win) and SD (Stingers 100 packs)
2) repeat #1 a few times
3) ammo is cheap, too
4) please God don't make me have to shoot at a live human being, but if I ever have to, my hands will shake just a tad less knowing I won't have to worry about recoil
5) Walther P22 equipped w/ laser sight also cheap and widely available

No, I haven't bought the Walther yet, but if centerfire ammo doesn't become more available at a reasonable price, I will before year's end. (And I've cut many a surplus watermelon clean in half w/ Stingers shooting my Ruger--one of the unexpected benefits of gardening.)

Rounds I'm not fond of: 9mm (I've begun to think it was developed to wound rather than kill), .45 GAP, .41 Mag, or any of the little tiny centerfire rounds.

I don't hate calibers or cartrages but I won't but or own a .45 GAP

and won't buy but would own (if given to me) a .25, .32, or .357 sig

Hating a .25acp for being too little and weak, is sort of like a fat woman hating her bikini for being too small. Not the right tool for the job?

Everything between .22 and .40, I dislike for various reasons. The .22 has given me many a wonderful shooting day on pocket change, I like carrying my .40s, I absolutely love shooting .45 from a 1911 platform, and the .44 magnum is probably my favorite handgun caliber of all time, for fun range shooting.

9mm is trying to draw me in - I still kinda want a Beretta 92FS. Alot. I just can't justify buying a 9mm.
