For the first time ever, my local gunshop/range was nearly out of 9mm. All they had was a few boxes of Winchester bulk (9mm). And not at a good price either. Thankfully, I have a few (*ahem* THOUSAND) rounds I picked up online. I'm going to have to go for more...

Rifle & shotgun not so much.

I know the thread is about handgun ammo specifically, but the door was opened on rifle by a previous poster, so I will walk through. .223 is scarce and expensive here in NY. Most shops are getting premium dollars for it. I was at a shop here on the Island and was told that .223 WOLF would be near $400.00 per thousand rounds soon. Yes, I said WOLF!

Well, it is not a mainstream caliber but you used to be able to get it pretty easily. I have not seen any as of late. At least I have seen various .380, as expensive as it might be. I have not seen ANY 9x18, aka 9mm Mak. I really could use a few hungred ball and at least a hundred Hornady XTP.

Oh well, I guess if SHTF the 2 mags full of XTP I have will have to wait until I've used all the 9mm, .38 and 7.62 I DO already have ;)

Remingtom Viper .22lr- 2.99 for a box of 50
Federal American Eagle .380acp 19.95/50
Magtech .38spl 19.95/50
Remington Express .45 Colt 37.95/50 and the same for this in .357mag
WWB .25acp 18.95/50
Needless to say but if this keeps upthen I will be spending all of my money on ammunition

Just to add to the reference mix, I stopped by Walmart this morning and they had no pistol ammo on the shelf except for several boxes of .25 cal.

The counter girl mentioned, though, that they had just gotten in two cases of 9mm WWB FMJ and one case of .45 WWB FMJ. That's it.

The 9mm was going for $19.99 for a 100 round box.
The girl told me that it would all be gone by 10:am (I was there at 8:am) because she had a list of people to call when it came in.

I thought Wal-Mart's policy didn't allow that sort of thing:confused:

Anyhow, it seriously blew my mind. I was reading on another forum how no WMs had ammo, so the next day on my way home I went by a WM. They had cases and cases of 9mm Blazer Brass on an endcap and at least a case of 50 rd boxes WWB in 9, 40, 45, 38, and 357. I bought a few boxes of the Blazer Brass for $9/50, which is a pretty good deal right now. Went back today to pick up a couple more and they didn't have any 9mm at all. 4 days and they moved at least 10 cases of ammo.

Blew my mind when the local independant sporting goods store actually had some Golden Saber on the shelf for a relatively reasonable price. Picked up a couple boxes, as really I need to build my social ammo stockpile more than my target.

I voted for the 9, but all of them are in short supply around here except for
.17 or really oddball rounds like that.

.380?

I voted 9mm. Glad to hear about .380, we were going to order a ppk/s for the wife this week. Will be looking for ammo first.

Seems like 9mm, 380, and 22LR gets snatched up as soon as it's put on the shelves. Two weekends ago, the NRA range didnt even have 380!:mad:

If you want .380 ammo, people in hell want cold beer, and the demand for both will be met at about the same time.

Well then, no .380 for us. I think I have her convinced to give the compact Witness 9mm another chance. It's the first gun she ever shot, and she got pretty good with it. Now then, I'm going for a cold beer. lol

Been looking for 9mm ammo here for weeks now and nobody had any. Most other common calibers seem to be wiped as well. Anyways, stopped by the local Walmart on a whim yesterday and they had 5 100-rd. value packs of WWB. I bought them all. :o

Shortage versus most purchased

In SE Texas I'm not seeing any shortage of ammo in any caliber. But, I'm guessing that 9mm is purchased more than others.
