Goofiest Handgun: Current or Otherwise

.45 ACP "Tacticool" Automatics

For example: A digicamo 15+1 .45 ACP with red dot sight and threaded barrel owned by someone who has no intention on attaching anything to the barrel.

IDK how you can call the Judge a goofy handgun? Its a .45 colt revolver that looks and feels like any other standard revolver.

Mateba Autorevolver

Now there's a goofy handgun.

The Mars automatic pistol.

At 1750 ft/sec MV, it ejected empties straight to the rear. Oh hell yes, that'll work. And for the line of the century to appear in an ordnance report, shooting the Mars pistol was described as "singularly unpleasant and alarming." Satirizing the English is a singularly unrewarding occupation....

Norinco once made a 9mmPara single stack, hammerless pistol called a 77b ( i think the model number is correct).

Besides the goofy looks, the slide could be retracted by pulling the front of the trigger guard to the rear.

They worked but it was goofy.

My last firearms certification had me shooting a Ruger p95 DAO... That gun was pretty silly... I just don't understand dao on a handgun, but thats just me.

OK, Zombislayer, the gloves are off...LOL! :D

The old Savage pistols are NOT goofy looking! These were classic early semi-auto pistols... "Ten shots quick", according to Bat Masterson. They were heavy, but well balanced and shot where pointed (from the hip or at chest level). I wish I had held onto my old .380 Savage, But I swapped it off decades ago.

I remember the Norinco 77b. We had one to test when I was with NRA. Not particularly reliable, and only 2 people in the office had the hand strength to retract the slide using the trigger guard.

That concept, though, is much older than the Norinco. I think it was first tried on a Belgian pistol pre WW II.

I'd say the mare's leg pistols that have seen a sudden resurgence.

I'll be honest, even odds on my next pistol purchase being one of these.

Mike Irwin,

Thank you for confirming the model number of that pistol. The one i shot worked pretty well with stout loads.

It really was impossible to retract the slide using the front of that trigger guard.

What an awful idea.

I had never heard of the Dardick, and now that I clicked on that link, I may never ridicule another gun again. That is certifiably weird. And both a designer and a magazine editor thought that was a good idea!

Egor20 gets my vote for the prize.

Goofy can be used in so many ways... and many folks have done a fine job offering examples. I was thinking of that COP pistol but I see Skans beat me to it. (that's what it is, yes?) I think those things are sought after and folks pay good money for them, don't they?

Anyway, I have nothing great add really... but my buddy picked up a Tec-9 in some kind of a horse trade. What a worthless item this thing is. Outside of being a fantastic movie star/ movie prop and being one of the most popular gangland accessories of all time, what jumps out at me like the **** in a punchbowl is how overly large it is -- yet it has a dinky, tiny, worthless little barrel. That stupid little cocktail weenie of a barrel is going to rob every last bit of juice from the already wimpy 9mm's that get sprayed out of it.

All in all, I think it's a completely worthless firearm and outside of a movie set, I can't understand why anyone would want one for any real use. (sure, if you just wanted it 'cause you wanted it, I understand that... but outside of horsing around, what's the actual value in it?)

To me, that's pretty goofy.

Oh yeah, gotta say something I forgot.

Skans, you must have put that picture up purely for the COP and not for the 3rd Gen 'Smith that's also pictured. Nothing goofy about a 3rd Gen 'Smith. Love 'em so much it's hard to describe.

HOWEVER! The factory adjustable rear sight and those god-awful protective ears around it are maybe one of the goofiest decisions I think Smith & Wesson has made with regards to outfitting a pistol.

Nobody could ever possibly convince me that the rear sight is anything but horribly ugly. Goofy, if you will. :p Such a terrific series of handguns. Such an awful attempt at an adjustable rear sight. Sometimes, images of those keep me awake at night. Wayne Novak would barf up his morning Cheerios :barf: if you showed him a picture of that rear sight, and with good reason! :D

Goofiest - hmm,, maybe the old gun in a shield thing. The single shot black powder w/the pop out barrel from the 1500's.

Maybe the uber expensive Korth?
