favorite handgun cartridges

lets limit this to CF cartridges because everyone loves the .22. what are your favorite handgun cartridges? include both revolver and pistol cartridges.

mine are:
45 long colt
45 acp

no special order i love em both. i also have 9mm, 38, 357 and 44 mag but if i had to pick just 2 it would be the 45LC and 45 ACP.
 
Revolver preference is 357 mag, I don't practice with 38spl. I'm of the opinion practicing with something that closely matches my defensive loads will improve my performance in a defensive situation. of course I'm not sending $2/round Gold Dot at paper on any regular basis :D

9mm is a real pleasure to blast away with at the range, by far the easiest for me to shoot rapidly and accurately, and cheap! 45ACP shoots well, too, and would be my first choice for a defensive automatic, followed by 9mm for capacity and the aforementioned ease of use.

I admit though I don't have experience with a lot of the cartridges out there, so I expect to learn something every time I go to the range.
 
I know this is going to sound stupid but here goes.

When I turned 21 some many years ago I bought my first pistol. It was a .40. I made this decision based on some very very basic personal opinions.

first one was .45 ACP had a little too much recoil for me. I was poor and was not able to put the time in at the range to master it.

The second was ,at the time, 9mm was sooo popular among the gangbangers and mentioned in rap songs that I was irritated about it. I was not going to buy a 9.

So I went with what was between, .40. since then that is all I have ever bought. Also since then I think the majority of police and federal agencies have switched to .40.

I will one day own a .45 but right now I still do not think I will ever be interested in 9mm. Some will say I am missing out and I am ignorant of ballistics on 9mm compared to all other calibers.

I say, no I will not, because there are so many calibers out there and variations of them for me to enjoy that nothing bad is ever going to happen to me just because I decided to be hard headed for ignorant reasons against a 9mm handgun.
 
IMHO

I like the .40 and the .45 acp. I've heard it said that there are just as many people dead from the 9mm as the .45 acp. I wouldn't want to stand in front of either one! I keep the .45 USP H+K under the bed loaded with Gold Dots.
 
In no particular order of preference

357 Mag for fun
357 Herret for a Contender
44 Mag in a large revolver
45 ACP, of course
 
I own guns chambered in .22lr, .380, .38 spcl, .357, .40 S&W and in .45 acp. I enjoy shooting all of them, but there is something about the .45 that puts in as my favorite cartridge.
 
.41 Magnum with a home cast lead over 6.5 Unique...a very light load.
.44 Special, with a home cast bullet over 6.5 Unique, which is not much different than the .41.
