Favorite 45s (I know another subjective thread)

1) What is your favorite 1911 style 45acp?

Why? I like the slim grips of 1911's, they fit my hand well and point well. Why the SIG? I like SIG's and when I saw this one I just fell in love. It's never failed in over 500 rounds.


2) What is your favorite non-1911 style 45acp?

Why? Once again I like SIG's and I carry this one. It has a very short grip and is easy to conceal. The grip is too short for a lot of folks. But I like it. This has had a lot of work done to it by Tripp.

3) Which of the above models would you recommend for home defense? Either, if I didn't have a shotgun.

My nightstand gun is a Springfield Loaded Champion, 4-inch barrel, Esmeralda stocks (I just like looking at them). Excellent handgun, very accurate, loaded with 165gr +p PowR'Balls, extra mag next to the gun ...

Favorite 1911 style pistol;
Colt Commander. I'm not one who believes that the 1911 is for everyone or that it is the "best fighting handgun ever made", etc. But for me they work very well and size, weight, feel of the gun and the operating system suits me better than other pistols. If I had to choose between a GM and the Commander for carry I'd go with the Commander. .38 Super of .45 acp.

Favorite non 1911 .45. It's a toss up tween the S&W M1917 and the CZ 97.

Home defense; Either will work with the right bullet.

Thanks guys, its good to know that even with smaller hands the grip of the 1911 should fit me just fine.

Make sure it has a flat mainspring housing for small hands.

My only 1911 is a Dan Wesson CBOB in .45ACP, and I could not be happier with it.... However, as home defense, I consider .45 a much too bright and loud remedy, thus, bedside find a S&W model 65 k-frame sporting .38 Sp. Gold Dots. Less muzzle flash, less deafening report, better chance of a successful follow-shot......

Favorite 1911. My S&W 1911 Gunsite. Shoots so well and is totally reliable why pay more and not get anything for it? Like my SA Loaded models also.
Non 1911? Tough call. Full sized Sig 220. Compact. G30.
