Favorite 45s (I know another subjective thread)

Ok guys, there is a point to this thread as subjective as it may be. I am really interested in the 45acp caliber and would like your opinions. It would be for home- defense and I have small hands for a guy. I am undecided as to whether I want a 1911 style pistol or a more modern design.
So here are the other questions:

1) What is your favorite 1911 style 45acp?

2) What is your favorite non-1911 style 45acp?

3) Which of the above models would you recommend for home defense?

Thanks guys!

Sig P220
Springfield Armory XD

As of now, the XD is my primary HD pistol due to its capacity vs. the Sig.

I also keep a 12 ga. on "standby."

Smith and Wesson 625 (you didn't specify that it HAD to be a Semi Auto.)

Smith and Wesson 625 (Keep it simple.)

just curious

I love the .45 ACP so don't think you're making a bad choice at all. For home defense concealment and weight aren't such an issue. So...

Have you considered a 12ga? If you can't keep it safely bed side (I just had to retire mine because the baby is now able to get at it). Have you considered a .357 Mag revolver? If the revolver is only out because of capacity issues and you have enough safe storage bedside have you considered the .357 revolver with another high cap semi as back up? The revolver is more likely to go bang 5-7 times than any semi auto even if it's not a quality issue - a piece of debris from the BG hitting sheet rock could fall in the slide. Who knows?

But to better answer your question, I'd look at 4 or 5 inch barrel 1911's with night sights for a .45 used for home defense. As always, whatever works for you.

I want a colt 1911. I have a p345. the one i have is my favorite. I use it for CCW and HD, and target shooting. love it.

1) What is your favorite 1911 style 45acp? 5" Colt, naturally LoL. Kimber Classic Stainless is my second choice

2) What is your favorite non-1911 style 45acp? HK USP or XD-45 Tactical

3) Which of the above models would you recommend for home defense? 12 gauge shotgun stoked wth buckshot

The Springfield Armory XD-45 Tactical has a slim grip profile that will accomodate just about any sized hands. It is also a most excellent bargain for the price

Keep in mind that many bone-stock 1911's require modifications to properly feed JHP ammo reliably.

Check out the Glock 21sf, too

The reason I ask about which one for home defense is because with my pacemaker I cannot use a shotgun or rifle. Also I already have an M&P 40 so Im not completely undefended right now lol. I would just like to add a 45, so my M&P has some company :D.

1. Springfield Armory TRP - One day, I'll own one

2. I don't own it, nor have I fired it, but I can't stop fondling the FNP-45 every time I see one! In comparison to a G21, the recoil spring is beefier, the slide is heavier, and the capacity is higher (14 or 15 depending on model).

3. FNP-45. DA/SA with a hammer and decocker, rail, and 1911s have a goof many ftf problems. Even pricey models can need a bit of work to be HD/SD reliable.

Easy question and easy answer:

1. Favorite 1911A1 model 45acp: Springfield Armory basic parkerized GI model

2. Favorite Non-1911A1 model 45acp: SigSauer P220 (Prefer W. Germany model but not is OK)

3. What 45acp above would I recommend for home defense: No question - SigSauer P220

I love the 1911A1. One of the finest weapons available. But it doesn't compete with the Sig P220. Yes, if you do some work on the trigger, extractor, and ejector; it can be a great weapon. But it still can't compete with the SigSauer P220. Plus, the P220 has double action, single action, and a decocker. It is as accurate as they come and as safe as they come. Not saying that you can't conceal a 1911A1; you can. But I have seen first hand people who have tried concealing inside waist band; inside coats; etc... and the safety turned off when they were trying to remove it from the holster. The 1911A1 needs to be carried without one in the chamber if you're going to carry it certain ways; and if you carry it cocked and locked; then you shouldn't carry it certain other ways. The P220 has proven to be one of the most reliable and dependable weapons; let alone 45acp; in the world. Accurate right out of the box. And it will shoot anything you throw at it.

Glock 21 is comfortable and accurate. My H and K USP is actually the smoother shooter. Hogue grip on it with night sights and it's ready for any bad guys that make the fatal mistake of being an uninvited guest in my home.

Favorite 45, both are polymer frame.

1st choice: Springfield XD 45 compact.
Has a grip slightly smaller than the Glock 19/23 so the grip is great for a 10 + 1 (with the flush fitting mag) 45.

2nd choice: is Glock 38 in 45 GAP The grip is the same as the 19/23, but you get 8 + 1 capacity of 45.
