Don't trust rentals

This is a very interesting mystery. I would concede to other posters that a mechanical problem or problem with the sights is unlikely to cause those results. I would also counter that an experienced shooter, even if their technique was imperfect, would also be extremely unlikely to miss the entire target at that range, especially with multiple shots. The world may never know. :)

I like pocket pistols cause they are handy. But they don't shoot as well. I am on a paper body with a sbubnose though.

My 3.5 L frame with adjustable sights is decent. It can still hurt the ego when not trying hard enough. But that has a full size grip. Still no as good for ego as a 6 inch.

For those thinking it might be misaligned sights, the CENTER of the rear sight would have to be completely off the slide (by a little over 1/16") to miss by a foot (OP stated 2' x 3' target) at 8 feet with a Glock 26. That means that the edge of the sight would be sticking out about 1/2" to the side of the gun.

I'd be very surprised if that went unnoticed by the OP, his wife, and the guy renting them the guns.

^^^ Exactly, and for it to be the gun itself and not the sights, the barrel would have to be protruding from the slide at a similar angle, something I've never seen or heard of. If the gun was so heavily damaged that the barrel stuck out at an angle like that, I can't imagine that the gun would function at that point.

Again, the angles required to allow you to completely miss the target at 8 feet pretty much rule out the gun or the sights as a possibility.

I'm going to a different GS and rent a 43 from them and try this one more time based on the suggestions about the difference between the Glock 19 vs. the Glock 43. I remember when I bought my Ruger SP 101 2.5" and how I had to adjust to it not being a GP 100 4". It never occurred to me that there would be that much difference between a 19 & a 43 Glock. Ignorance is a terrible thing!!!

Problem solved. Shot today the Glock
43 nd the results were excellent. Fired
at 10 & 15 & 25 feet. I have pics but
don't know how to post them.
The original 43 was defective. Also
I took the sage advice especially from
"I might be wrong" who was right on.

Many thanks to all who threw in their $5 cents. I will buy it this weekend
From this GS for $ 480 NIB & $5 for ID . Check up.

Just went on to Bud's site and found this.
G 43 NIB with 2 mags, Glock Night Sights front & rear, speed loader all in a case
for $488.00 less my t/I a Ruger SP 101 2.5" 357 mag that I never shoot anymore.

Anyone know what kind of night sights that Glock has as stock???

Regards,
Doc

Glad to hear this worked out! I want to buy a 43 for my wife. I took her to the shop to look through designs and it was her favorite, just couldn't afford it at the time. I may sell my PPS M2 which she doesn't care for to afford it.

I am glad to hear it, Doc. I am quite satisfied with mine. Since you have already test driven it, it's an easy guess that you will like it. :)

Have her shoot a 43 if you can. I hated the 43 I tried and loved the PPS M2 so that's the one I bought.

Doc, please don't take this the wrong way, but the original rental 43 you shot was almost certainly not defective. At least it wasn't defective enough to cause you to miss the target entirely. I think the second time you rented one you focused harder on the fundamentals now that you have more experience with these guns; small guns are way less forgiving than bigger ones, but you can learn to shoot them well. It looks like you learned to shoot it well after just two range trips.

I just did a little experiment where I set up a 2' x 3' target 8 feet away with a Glock 43 slide set in a vice. (The target I used was actually a little smaller than 2' x 3'). Here's how far the rear sight would need to be off in order to miss the whole target at 8' :

Actually, you'd still hit the edge of the target with the sights like this, I just couldn't move the rear sight over any farther without it falling off. And it would certainly have fallen off the moment you started shooting.

And here's how misaligned the barrel would need to be from the slide in order to miss the target at 8':

At that angle, there's no way the barrel would lock up properly with the breech. The gun simply wouldn't function and it would be obvious something was wrong.

Theo,
that was a great explanation based on the parameters that you posted. I'll just take that in and add it to my knowledge & experiences. Since the 2 events were so diametrically different, I still have to believe that the first event was due to a badly kept pistol vs. the 2nd event the pistol was well taken care of and functioned properly. i might be a novice on weapons but i'm not when it comes to use.

All that matters now is that you're getting hits on target. The issue is resolved regardless of what it was. Hits matter, the rest is semantics.

Honestly this is my opinion as well. You changed more than one variable. You focused more on the fundamentals and changed pistols. There's no way of knowing that one was definitively defective. As has been said, you're getting hits now so whatever the reason is in the past.

Regardless of the cause, you now know what a well-maintained G43 will do in your hands when you handle it well. That is what you needed to know to make your purchasing decision.

Just an FYI. I purchased the G 43 from Buds today and will probably get it late next week. Got a decent deal. The Glock NIB with 2 mags & a speedloader with front & rear Glock night sights. Here's the fun part. Nobody at Buds knew what type of Glock night sights were. I think that they're ameriglo???

Anyway the price was $488.00 out the door. I traded in my Ruger SP 101 2.5" 357 which I don't shoot or carry anymore & my wife didn't want it. Final $$ to me was $75.00.
Yes I know Cheapshooter, never sell any guns but I couldn't pass up this one. Can't wait to make this one my own.

I've sold a ton of guns. I keep my selection small and simple but it changes from time to time. Some hate selling. I don't mind at all. Why have things I won't use? I can take the value loss as a part of it.

Congrats on the purchase!

Congratulations on your choice. I hope you like it.

Now, they gave you $413 on your SP101? Nice, seems to be pretty good on a used gun. Then again, I've never traded a gun, only sold outright, so I don't really know what to expect. I'll have to see what they'll give me on my S&W 442. If it is in the $300 range I may just have to get the Colt Mustang I've been eyeing (even though it is so far from my carry philosophy and a bit small to be a strictly range gun).

Being a guy IN Florida, and on pretty good terms with
all the GS's with ranges in the Panhandle, would LOVE to
know where the GS/was, because if they've not been properly
maintaining their range guns, I'd give 'em a hard time
until all were appropriately cleaned and checked out!!

Of course, usually go in and give 'em a hard time anyway,
because I bring in things that nobody their age has ever seen,
(Love 80's/90's Guns!)

Hate to admit it, but due to long/large ape fingers,
my grip on a Glock is nowhere near standard...
those stupid finger grooves are spaced wrong...
so I had to adjust my grip and use a special technique
just to get my G20SF to shoot right...otherwise I'm
all over the paper at 5 yards.

So when folks say that you need to get used to the
Glock Square Grip, they are not kidding.
It's pretty pronounced in the G20/21 series,
and made worse by the finger grooves, unless
your fingers happen to fit perfectly in the grooves ;)
