Do you guys still like your Walther P99 ??

Johnny, I can believe that. But, they had to have originally come from Earl's Repair Service. No one else markets these barrels. Earl is the person who pushed Walther into making this barrel in the first place and he is the exclusive distributor for them.

I guess some folks needed some cash and sold or traded their threaded barrels and re-installed the stock-length barrel.

There were early reports of firing pin breakage when the 9mm was released to the States. I received an E-mail concerning this in 1998.
The writer stated that he had dry fired his Walther roughly 400 times and the pin broke.

It is covered under warranty and a stronger pin has been used in newer models. Walther does not recommend dry firing. I disagree with this and have dry fired many of my Walthers repeatedly with no problems except the rimfire .22 PP series. Probably a safety issue with Walther rather that a durability issue.

I dry fire my P99's all the time. I use snap caps most of the time however. If you really want to become good with your pistol, I don't see how you couldn't dry fire. I've learned a lot from just dry firing and it has shown in IDPA competition.

You can send it to me with a few boxes of ammo, and I'll be glad to break it in for you.:D I'll even let you know how good it shoots, how good it fits my.............er.........how good it will fit YOUR hand, how accurate it is, and all about it's flawless function. Then I'll let you give it it's first cleaning.

It's not everyone I'd make this offer too.

The P99 .40 was my first handgun. I loved the way it felt in my hand. However, it repeatedly malfunctioned. The slide frequently locked open when there were rounds in the magazine. Also, the slide frequently failed to go into battery. I put a couple of thousand rounds through it, but it continued to fail. Also, I found it too big for a carry gun.

I now carry a Glock 27, and I love it. No malfunctions, it shoots great, and is very easy to conceal.

I just got home from the range with my P99 Military in .40S&W. This was my first outing with it because I just picked it up yesterday. :D

I bought mine used with only 40 rounds thru it prior to my getting it. It came with all the accessories in the original box. The gun was like new.

We put 340 rounds of various bullet configuration ammo thru it, ball and HP, with only two failure to feed malfunctions. They were both the last round left in the mag, same mag both times, and were with Federal 180 gr. FP FMJ.

These two failures were within the first 50 rounds put thru the gun. After it settled in, there were NO other malfunctions at all.

The gun was clean and lubed prior to firing. On purpose it was left dirty during firing and it was not lubed again for the entire 340 rounds. It performed flawlessly!

The gun is very accurate from 10 yds. out to 25 yds. on several different types of targets. 100% head shots at 25 yds. on a "Q" target in SA is no problem. With any type ammo at 10 yds. it will shoot one ragged hole in the target. 15 yds. it is the same if the shooter does his part.

Prior to buying this P99, I had been told that the first DA shot was too long. This is BS.
My P99 DA is far beter than any S&W, Beretta or HK, full size or compact, DA gun that I have owned or fired.

Once I get a suitable holster, my P99 is going to replace my G27 or G32 as my daily carry gun. ;)

In fact, I intend to sell my G34 in order to finance another P99 Military in 9mm. :D

hello everyone! i have a standard p99 9mm and love it. fits well in my hand and shoots well (not to mention really good looking).

the one thing i dont like is the slide to frame fit. when you shake the pistol (magazine removed and decocked) there's a little bit of rattle. its really annoying. the rattling sound comes from the rear portion of the slide contacting the rear pair of rails when you shake the pistol. is this common to all p99s?

One of the best (if not the best) looking pistols in the world. Very ergonomic. 16 round magazine capable (in 9mm flavor).

My only gripe is the very poor trigger-feel.

I reciently purchased a P99 40S&W because of the fit and I wanted something bigger than my Ruger 9mm. I went to the range with two boxes of winchester "winClean 180gr ammo. I could not empty a clip without at least two failure to feeds. The rounds were not stove piping due to limp wristing. I was very dissapointed but was not going to give up on the gun yet. Last weekend I went back with a box of UMC and Federal ammo. The pistol was perfect. Not a single problem with either brand of ammo. I have the S&W componets on my pistol, but I got a good deal on it. I guess the store was trying to unload them. I am going to have to start reloading the 40 S&W to be able to keep shooting like i want. Any recomentations? What is the opion about Rainier bullets?

jw29650,

I tried Rainier bullets in mine and they didn't work very well. The bullets are really soft and would jam on the feed ramp. I've used all others with great success. My favorite lead bullet is the 170 gr SWC from Laser Cast. These make the nicest round holes in the targets :D

Looks like I have found a home. More P99s here than on the Walther Germany webpage. :)

This is my first one and I love it. I have the all black 9mm version with the DA/SA trigger. I can easily keep double taps on a 3x5 card at 7 yards. I am still using the medium backstrap that came installed but I am thinking about trying the smaller one. I will be closer in size to my Browning grip. Has anyone tried the smaller grip? Does it help much with that long trigger pull? I can get the trigger in the notch of my first knuckle like all the shooting instructors say you should do with a DA trigger but just barely.

200 rds through it so far and no trouble. Waiting for an Alessi holster I ordered so I can make it my carry gun.

I've had my P99 9mm two months now and I like more every day. The trigger was rough when new but is smooth like butter now. I've shot about 1200 rounds thru it with not one malfunction. Perfect! Very accurate too! I have a High Vis front sight coming in soon from Walther. Thought I'd give it a try and if I don't like it I'll get Meproliight night sights like all my other pistols. Great Gun!

My new black P99 9mm has a tiny almost imperceptable play between slide and frame. You should see my BHP's...shakes like a baby rattle. Still the BHP done by C&S (stock barrel) is capable of groups about 1-1.5 inch at 25 yard and one fellow at the range put 5 shots into the size of a dime at 15 yards... TWICE. The guns rattles but accuracy depends more on barrel to slide fit.

I have yet to test fire due to busy schedule but I did put the small grip on and it feels very nice...especially to my hand which is used to custom BHP's with Spegel grips.
In dryfire I did find the very short distance the trigger travels after breaking disturbs sight picture less than the long trigger movement on my BHP. I need to fire both and compare 'usable' accuracy.

Forget DA, I like it on fast action or set at SA pull.

I hope no one minds my tacking this on to an existing thread....somehow I don't think what I'm looking for really deserves it's own thread....and this seems to be the P99 thread to end all threads.....

Does anyone, since I noticed a few people posting from there, know places in Jersey that might sell the P99 (9mm)? I'm pretty damned taken aback by her, but I'd like to get at least a feel for it before I plunk down the change. I'd been debating whether to start with a USP9, but it sounds like the trigger on the P99 is nicer (at least, when it's panned it is not as vicious as with the USP). Just a damn sweet looking handgun.

And, to further incense and annoy you....a hopefully simple question....should I bother looking at the Quick Action? I'm not intending to use this for anything really other than rangework. No competitions, no carry (not in this POS state I live in, at leasT).....

Thanks guys.

Hard Case, look at my notes above regarding the trigger. The DA/SA is so sweet. I can't see a benefit to the QA trigger.

If you are going to use it for range work you can retract the slide slightly on the DA trigger or just don't decock after you chamber the first round. The trigger remains forward and you have a long light pull. Or you can slowly take it past the DA stage to SA and shoot all SA.

I hope you can find one in your area to try out. What I am saying makes more sense if you can hold it in your hand and feel it for yourself. When I was looking for a carry gun the other one I was considering was the USP9 compact. They are both excellent weapons but the P99 just fits my hand better.
