Do you guys still like your Walther P99 ??

went down to the range today, it's been a while. damn this is a fine gun. i also think that i made a convert as well. a gentleman was there with his ruger p98 <i think> and just plain wasn't happy with it. we chatted for a bit and then i asked him if he wanted to shoot a few rounds with my p-99, which of course he said he would enjoy it. he shot a 4.5-5" group <10 rounds> with a firearm that he had never handled before that. i shot his ruger and could see why he didn't like it too much, had a VERY long hard trigger pull, it felt like about a 5 min squeeze. <squeeze, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, bang> do i still like my p-99, hell yes!!

anyway, i need to spend more time shooting JHP, i shot FMJ much much better today. anyone have experience with Sellier & Bellot 9mm Luger 115gr FMJ?? i've found a great price on it on http://www.miwallcorp.com and wanted to know if it's decent stuff...i've shot PMC, UMC and couple of other FMJs any and all feed back appreciated.

The only details I know of on the P99 compact were that it was just a rumor. It may well have been the P22 that everybody thought would be the P99 compact. I've heard that the next P99 will actually be a .45 version. we'll see though.

P99

Yeah...Yeah...Yeah...

But how can we get those damn backstraps off & on in a hurry ?? I really dont wanna resort to using a hammer again...

I changed out my backstraps in about 3min. I used a plastic mallet to drive out the pin, and replace it. No problem. Besides, once you find the one that fits, then you should never have to change it again. :)

Here is the target from Saturdays range session!!

Denfoote...

Sweet !! I still havent shot mine yet...Money issues..

With the backstrap thing....I just wanna be able to change back & forth at the range easily without the use of a hammer...

Vyper,
Why do you want to, unless you have hands that change size, or want to lend it out??? It was designed to fit as many hands as possible, then just left in place. It wasn't designed for a quick change, just so you can pass it around!!! But, if that's what you want to do, then just carry a small plastic mallet in your range bag...:)

After I shoot this baby more, then I'll get better. ;)

I can tell I've got a LOT of learning and catching up to do with you other Walther collectors/enthusiasts. Guess I'll have to get busy. Now that I've found the manufacturer and firearms I like, impatience is setting in. I WANT THEM ALL! AND I WANT THEM NOW! However, I can't get them all now. I can only afford one more. I'm leaning towards the P88c. It fits my hand better, full-cap mags still available, they seem to be more collectable and
harder to find than the P5c, and I think I can make a better deal on one. NIB w/ 2 10 round mags for $629. P5's seem to be a little harder to deal on right now. Best I can find locally is $795 NIB. I prefer not to buy on-line auctions, I don't like the risks.

So my questions to the experienced of this forum is, if you could only pick one, which would you chose, the P88c, or the P5c, and if don't mind, a brief reason why. Also, what is the difference between 9X19mm and 9X21mm(2mm has already been answered)? Does/should it make a difference in the type ammo you use?

Thanks for the insights.
:)

Big Iron, I don't know about the P88C, but I have a full size P5, and it is one sweet pistol. It costs less than the P88C!!! I would get it. :)

Prices of P88C, P5C, and P5.

P88C---$775.00

P5---$695.00

P5C---$895.00

Prices per Earl's Repair Service website.

Big Iron, you don't have to go to an on-line auction to get a better deal than $795.

Go to GunsAmerica.com. This is not an auction service. There are many reputable dealers and individuals selling all models of Walthers. I've bought six or seven Walthers from different people/dealers and have never been disappointed.

GunsAmerica will not put up with dealers or individuals with complaints against them for questionable practices.

Troubles with my P99...

I love my new P99 but for the failure to feed problems I am having. Using both factory and handloads (with brand new Starline brass) I have had mulitple FTFs... It is often times (not always) the very 1st round fed from the magazine and typically there is a nice cresent moon indentation on the brass from where the round is slammed into the top (?) of the chamber wall. Anyone else seen this? Any help or considerations? Could it be that the magazine feed springs are too stiff and forcing the round too hard into the top of the chamber? Thanks, Cryoman

Herr Walther,

I've been watching the GunsAmerica site for a few days now. Unless I overlooked something, I haven't seen that many P88c's. the ones I have seen, are $800 on up. Same thing with the P5c's.

I've pretty much decided to get the P88c first, and then wait awhile and get the P5c. As I mentioned, the one I can get locally is $629 NIB with 2 10 round mags. All in all, that doesn't seem to be that bad a price. Especially when you consider another $50 to $60 for shipping and FFL's.

Thanks for the help and input.

I picked up a used P99 Military in 40S&W a few months back for $479. That put it on the best buy list!

For me, its accurate, ergonomic and reliable. No malfs, good groups at 25 yds freehand and the adjustable sights and backstrap helped me get POI to POA rapidly.

Has 510 rounds through (500 by me, 10 [!] by the prev owner who felt the recoil was too much and bought a P99 in 9mm). I agree the recoil is a little more noticeable, but certainly not objectionable.

The trigger is a wee heavy and stacks a little, but is improving with practice and dry-fire.

If the price is right, I'd recommend this pistol to anyone (and with adjustable backstrap, I imagine there are alot of people who can grip a P99 better than some of the other doublestacks out there).

Herr Walther,

Sorry for the mislead. Sometimes my mind and fingers don't seem to belong to the same person. I omitted the (c) on my second reference. I was trying to say I was looking at the P88c and P5c and thought I could(and did) get a better deal on the P88c. So I'll just have to keep my eyes open for a deal on the P5c later. So many choices, so little cash, .........so little patience!:(

Walther threaded barrels are $395.00. I don't know what the flash hider costs, I haven't been to the site in a while.

He has the market cornered on these barrels. You won't find them anywhere else.

RAAAAAAARE.

Not true on "cornering the market" for factory original P99 9mm threaded barrels ... keep an eye peeled on www.gunbroker.com for them, including a picture ... a seller has moved about four or five of them at $250-400/ea over the past few months ... they seem to pop up every 2-3 weeks ... buyers seem happy and rate the seller A+ ... you might be able to search closed auctions
