--I think you are a lot more likely to need a gun at home than away from home.
--The times that I have needed one and didn't have it; I have not wanted to leave the threat unattended so I could go fetch my gun.
--In addition; one of the most comforting things about carrying a gun away from home is the fact that I have a gun when I pull in the driveway

On my person---no.

Being as I live alone, there is loaded gun in every room of the house. Not really worried about a home invasion.

Qoute:
"That's the thing some folks don't realize... The BG isn't going to burglarize or rob/home-invade people in bad neighborhoods because there just isn't a lot to get in those neighborhoods.

If you live in a nice neighborhood, your chances of being burglarized or experience a home invasion goes up."

Accually in my town most of the crimes and burgularies happen in the slum neighbor hoods. You would think they would hit the other neighborhoods, but they don't.
I have fould my dogs are a better deterrent then my guns at home.

carrying at home...

The answer is yes,,,I live in the woods,,the onlypolice we have is state police....and it seems like there has been a rash of day time breaking and home invasions...so I keep my glock22 with always and when in bed its on the nite stand,,for my little wife there is a mossburg 20guage pump loaded with buck shot ready ...and an old AMT.40cal.under the mattress...and my son has a 12mossburg gage in his room..needless to say if a group of scumbags try to do my family harm I don't thing that they will be leaving in there own accord

I always carry. If it's not on me, it's within arm's reach, you never know when trouble comes looking for you. I to live in a nice neighborhood but breakins have happened and I don't want to be caught with my pants down so to say. On a side note, after a day of hunting I stopped off at a do it yourself car wash to spray all the mud from my truck. I noticed 3 guys walking toward me and I put the sprayer up, opened up my truck door "where my shotgun was laying across the back seat". The first guy got to about 15 yards from me when he said "hey man, you look like you could spare some money to give up", the second guy pulled out a black club of some sort. To their shock when I closed the door and racked the shotgun it changed their mind rather quickly "they looked like cock roaches scattering when the light comes on". Moral of the story, you never know when trouble will come looking for you, at home or away.

That seems to be the general consensus of this thread to say the least.

I live in a fairly small city of about 9,000 or so, but I also know that crime doesn't care if you're in a small town or large metropolis, its everywhere. I carry from about 30 minutes after I wake up, and until I lay down in bed, then my SR9C is right next to me on the nightstand. The only time it's away from me is when I'm in the shower, and uh, that's another thread.

I lock my doors when im at home with my family. I have several guns lying in wait. Short of a battering ram busting through my locked front door I think ill have plenty of time to reasonably assess the situation and grab whatever gun is needed. Then again I live in a mountain town and not the big city. On the other hand if I have to go outside for any reason at night I usually have a firearm or my dogs due to the amount of wildlife we have.

I think it is wise to carry at home. To some it may seem paranoid in my "nice" neighborhood, and Indian Country is far away, still stuff happens and criminals do go where the valuable things are located. I am tired of hearing of home invasions in "nice" neighborhoods were perps hold people hostage, murder them, etc.

always have a gun readily at hand, tho I may not actually be wearing it ... when I'm home, my Kimber UCII follows me from room to room .. sitting on the desk next to me at this very moment ...

+1 bikerbill

99% of the time one is in arms reach inside the house, be it on my side or sitting beside me. Paranoid? Maybe, but if you have need of it and don't have it, paranoia would seem like a foolish notion...

I used to utilize this very same philosophy but I found that at times I would forget to bring it with me when I changed rooms (I'm approacing 50 years of age ). My solution was/is to just carry a little BUG (in my case a Beretta 21A) in my pocket so in the event I am in the living room and I have left my 9mm in the bedroom I have something to fall back on. There is always a place for a little mouse gun and they are one of the consumer products in this country that are still 'affordable' !

Yep

As others have pointed out, most crimes happen in/around the home. A friend's house was broken into a few months back. He was at work and his wife, who'd been on night shift, was at home sleeping at 9am. She woke up to the sound of the alarm. She walked into the hallway (an upstairs hallway that overlooks the downstairs) only to see two guys (looked to be 16-17 years old) walking out with their large TV. She didn't have the gun with her and was reminded later that that's exactly what the gun's for. (Well, rather it, along with the phone, should have gone into the closet, behind locked doors, until the police showed up. But that's another story.) Thankfully, nothing serious happened, and my friend paid $250 out of pocket for a brand new TV, courtesy of his homeowner's policy.

Point being, no one anticipates someone coming into their home. I have two guns I carry in two separate holsters. Either of them fits relatively comfortably. If it's evening and my wife and I are watching TV, the guns might get moved to the table next to me, at a perfect distance for my outstretched right hand to grab without any serious effort. The holsters usually stay IWB until bed.

The other significant factor is that we live in an upstairs duplex. I count on/hope to be able to hear someone coming through the downstairs door (deadbolted), walking up our stairway, and messing with the locked apartment door before I ever need to use my gun. Nonetheless, it's always there. In the shower, it's on the counter, tucked behind some clothes.

Doesn't matter where you live. Criminals don't respect lifestyles. A few months back there was a case here where a car full of gang bangers drove out into the burbs for a night of "fun". This happened only about a mile from where I live. For a while they were just going down the street shooting at anyone they saw. Then they got bored of that and started kicking down doors and shooting whoever they found in the house. Again, just for "fun". They broke into three houses before police arrived. If you are standing in the kitchen when someone kicks in your door, or in the head with your pants down around your ankles, and the nearest gun is on the nightstand next to your bed, you are in for a world of hurt.

I always carry when I'm at home. I hate Arcadia doors, they seem like such a weak point. I'm always concerned about home invasions because of the dang Arcadia door.

Then, when I'm working outside or if the garage door is open I feel more vulnerable...

So... Yea I carry at home...

I carry around the house. My carry guns are a part of my wardrobe, it goes on as soon as I dress and doesn't come off until I go to sleep. It also stays on me all day long.
