Not in the house where more than one loaded weapon is available . If taking a walk in the woods on my property I carry one with me. I live a hundred yards off the road and my dog alerts when anyone is near the property. Two of my nearest neighbors and myself are retired LEO and anyone roaming around the area hardly goes unnoticed.
With that said there is never a place where one is perfectly safe from harm. So live happily but be cognitive of what's around you.

It is on me or close by at home.

As far as the OP, you might want to reconsider your rig. The Glock 22 is a large, thick gun for IWB carry. It is also heavy and requires a good leather gun belt and likely a size larger pants.

I don't carry at home. I don't have a need for it really. I might in the future. I do have a friend that carries at house when he's outside. When houses nearby were getting broken into he carried a long barrel Super Blackhawk .44 mag and a 9x18.

I agree. The gun belt is particularly important for guns that weight roughly more than 2 lbs loaded. With the right gear and clothing (and motivation), you can carry most any handgun you wish. I frequently carry a 4" S&W N Frame IWB (which dwarfs a G22) without too much trouble.

Motivation is probably the most important factor. People who aren't gun enthusiasts who choose to carry out of necessity frequently report having difficulties carrying even small guns. I recall a fellow posting on THR a couple of years ago that found carrying a Ruger LCP was too difficult :p . Amazing (the dagum thing is smaller than wallet :o), but true.

OTH, a shooting enthusiast and gun lover who has gun powder coarsing through their veins often doesn't have any trouble at all with full size 1911s, revolvers, etc.

As for carry at home, I do carry at home most of the time. Right now is the exception (though I'm going to change that as soon as I'm done with this post :D), then again I have a 12 ga pump about 5 seconds from me.

Yes. Usually pocket carry a P3AT at home. My Glock 17 HD gun is close by as well.

I always carry at home. I always carry any time it is possible to do so.

Those who live "in a good area" or "in the country" should remember that the criminal won't be looking in a "bad area", he wants to maximize his efforts by robbing someone who actually has something of value. The nicer the area, the richer the pickings.

I carry at home because i don't run so fast and i don't want to have to run across my house just to get to the safes and safe room.

With a gun on my hip,i can fight my way out of most situations,i hope.

I live in a relatively crime free area, I'm talking, no locking doors/keys left in the truck country.

I still carry at home as well as anywhere else. My 642 is always in my pocket.

I've come out of the shot to find a coyote robbing my chicken pen, lots of rattlers in this country, killed one under my back steps, last fall had to put a horse down, dispatched deer when my grandkids muffed a shot.

I answered "yes" in the poll but the more honest answer is "most of the time." There are some times around the house when it is nearby but not actually holstered and in my belt, depending on what I am doing and how I am dressed.

I can see why someone might keep a gun to hand while at home. But as for carrying one at home i think that's a bit over the top. Police i know here don't even carry at home and they are being targeted by a terrorist organisation.

I carry mine all of the time. Just like my wallet, cell phone, pocket knife, and watch, it is part of my "stuff" that I carry.

All areas are crime free until a crime happens. If I could predict where and when bad stuff would happen, I could just sell all of my guns. To those of you who can, good on you.

Kraig is right. Home invasions occur at home not elsewhere.

I live in a very small town and most people here know everyone else. We all meet at the post office in the morning and/or afternoon because we're too small a place to have a mail carrier. Crime is relatively non-existent here. Many of my neighbors leave their keys in their cars and their doors unlocked at night. That said I carry while at home JUST in case.

As for the cops across the pond that don't carry while at home despite being targeted by a terrorist org. - they're just making targets of themselves then. If I knew there was an organization targeting my fellows and myself I'd be armed all the time! If they're going to come get me I'm damned well taking as many of them with me as I can! That silliness aside - I have a family to protect. How can I do that if my tools are locked away?

Home invasion is when trouble comes knocking at the door. They will have the advantage of surprise. I would likely be in condition white because I am at home. I'd like to be able to say that I live in condition yellow, but it isn't so and perhaps should not be a necessary facet of life. I need to unplug sometimes.

This creates a problem for security. They have the advantage, I'm in the white. If one is to allow oneself to slip from yellow into white then you have to do something to not be caught with your pants down, so to speak.

Have a dog and wear a gun, problem solved. Wearing a gun around the house isn't a chore, its my hobby and security system.

Stand by to repel boarders. You have to stop them at the front door. When they come askin to use the phone or whatnot, you wont have time to go to the bedroom safe. If you have it in your belt you stop them there at the door. You surprise them and deny entry.

If they get in it would be a lot worse. They must be stopped at the door.
