Do you carry a smaller gun for convenience or necessity

I will occasionally tote an SP-101, but strictly for BUG purposes. Otherwise, I only carry full-size handguns. Clint Smith said it best: "I never met anyone that had been in a gunfight who, while the shooting was going on, wished for a SMALLER gun!" He also summed it up thus: "It's a BIG gun when I put it on, and it's a BIG gun when I pull it out!" I'll close with a quote from one of the finest films of all time, "Blazing Saddles", which goes: "Now who can argue with that?":D

I CC when I'm in AZ for the winter months because of our location. I started with a SR9 (which I love by the way) and then picked up a Bersa 380 CC as I wanted something smaller. It was used and I didn't like the light trigger pull on it so I went to a Ruger LCR 357. I'm more of a revolver guy. I carry on the belt. I like the size of the LCR as it isn't obvious under a sweatshirt, jacket or a shirt-tail that's out. You can either open carry or carry concealed out here so it really doesn't matter but as some have stated, there are folks that are uncomfortable around someone who is carrying - and you do see open carry here quite frequently. For me, I went with a LCR for several reasons. It's light and it isn't that obvious.

For me it's both. Depends on where I'm going, what I'm doing, and what I'm wearing as to what gets carried.

My son bought me a WASR with a folding stock for Christmas. In this state it had to be registered as a pistol. Therefore, if I wanted to get a trench coat, I could carry my new "pistol" with a 30round magazine,a bayonet and whatever goodies I want to put on it. But do to the fact that I look funny in a trench coat I carry my Sig.P232 in .380.

I'm trending towards smaller carry guns, but when I started carrying years ago not many small guns in effective calibers existed.

I like small but effective.

It depends. I carry full size (Walther P99, CZ-75B, 92FS) most of the time, but if I'm going to be in an area where there are lots of people in a limited space or who are highly sensitive to firearms, I usually move to something a bit smaller (Sig P230) as its a bit easier to conceal.

I carry exclusively OWB (mostly because I don't want to buy a new wardrobe for IWB carry).

I carry for convenience. Depends on what I am wearing. I switch between SR9c, LCP, and a 642. I am comfortable shooting all three, so it basically depends on my mood that day as to which gun I carry.

I generally can't carry anything larger than my j-frame, although I've carried a Walther PK380 at some point also. My attire doesn't really allow for anything larger.

Most of the year i prefer to carry a full size handgun. I like the added capacity, more comfortable grip and adherently faster draws. But on really hot days i substitute my full size carry with 2 smaller guns, Usually light weight snubs. It is not uncommon for me to have 2 airweights on my person in the summer. when i carry a full size handgun the smaller guns are used as backups.

During colder months when I can wear coats or large shirts I carry a compact but during the summer when I'm normally in shorts and tshirt I'm usually carring a P3AT in my pocket.

Probably not necessary but I feel better with a Beretta 950 on me regardless of my other carry or close by major calibered handgun.

convenience --- I don't like having to dress around my gun. It's just easier to put the LCP in the pocket. I feel perfectly safe with the LCP, I even felt safe wit the P32 when I had it.

Same here. I'm pretty slender and feel silly when I wear a size to big shirt or pair of pants.

This my pocket gun..Its carried when i don't wear a sidearm....

I carry on Sundays throughout the year....and on hot summer days...

Both ... in the Texas heat, more than half the year is shorts and tshirt weather, so the vast majority of my carry is pocket ... EDC is a Kahr PM9, which is easily carried in a pocket but is an easy draw from a kydex paddle, either strong-side or cross-draw. At home, I slip an NAA Pug into my pocket and keep a Kimber .45 nearby ....

I have smaller 40's(Kahr P40) and 45's(1911 3.5"). I have found ways to carry them. Sometimes I carry my Jframe 357mag. Only in the summer do I break out the Keltec P32. That gun is Speedo quality. I'm always tempted to just wear it in the pool!

I like sub compact guns for IWB carry. The Glock 26 9mm is a good one. As well as my Sig P250 subcompact 9mm. I also carry a P-64 in my pocket as well. Even when it is uber hot as it is in the summer here in Central Texas. (100+degrees with humidity of at least 35% Heat Indexes in the 108+ are not at all unheard of for at least 2 months, if not longer. 84 days of 100+ degrees in a row. 96 days of over 95:eek:) I carry my pocket gun. It is also more convient at times. I can walk to the car after dark with my hand in my pocket ready to draw, and no one knows the differance.

As much as I like to carry my Sigma 9 because of high capacity I found my PF9 a lot easier to belly carry. Gonna depend on the weather, if I can wear my coat I'll carry my Sigma.
