Do you believe in car guns?

Truck Gun

For most of the summer a single shot Rossi 410/22lr lives behind the seat of my truck. Mostly for impromptu plinking sessions, but occasionally for the spru of the moment hunt (legal hunt). A pellet pistol lives in the tool bag year round and a pellet rifle spends the summer there too. I live rural. Not much car theft, and the Rossi has a lock on it.

Vehicle Break-ins

For all of you that have buddies or know of individuals that have lost firearms to vehicle break-ins ask yourself a question; “Did my buddy invite a break-in?"

What I mean is did they have NRA/Hunting/Gun Related stickers or license plates? Too many of us advertize we are gun owners and or gun transporters.

We are right back to "situational awareness"; do not make yourself a target for attack or for thieves.

I prefer to have a extra holster mounted in my car for my 1911, so i can remove it from my IWB and have easier access to it then i would on my hip. That way when i leave my car my .45 comes with me.

i believe in them, but my truck just got broken into on Friday. Luckily, my trusty GP100 that I normally keep under my seat, was left at home because I don't take it with me all the time.

After doing research, I found that my truck (ford f150, 2001) is a very easy truck to break into so it's a target for scumbag thieves. Now Im not so sure I want to keep a truck gun anymore, but I do think it's wise to have one in there.

No I do not believe in car guns. If I am in the car I am normally carrying so having another gun in the car is not necessary. I think you are greatly increasing the chances that you gun will be stolen by leaving it in car.

Also my wife who does not have a permit will sometimes take my car which could get her in trouble if she were pulled over.

Not trying to be a smarta**, but unless you have a gun with you, your chances of not having one when you need it are 100%. I can't carry everywhere I go, esp. to work, so the car gun is my next best option.

My Truck gun is a long gun.

I carry a .357 mag. on my belt every day, everywhere I can legally carry. I live rural, a few miles from a small town.
I do believe in "Truck guns". But mine is a long gun, usually an old "beater" 12ga. pump, magazine loaded, or sometimes a single brrl.
And there's a shell belt with a few various 12 ga. rounds. ETA... My truck gun has come in handy for taking a shot at a coyote, a time or two.

I sometimes leave a handgun in my truck, but not usually. However, I am going to get a cheap double-barrel or pump 12gauge for my truck. I want that in the car at all times(with ammo stored in a small safe). I'm a just-in-case kind of guy and would like something a little bigger than my defense handgun......just in case. And I don't need to be seen carrying a shotgun and ammo out to my truck every day either, so it is gonna have to stay in my truck.

Regardless of how any one of us feels about it, there are enough anti-gun organizations that will team up with enough shyster lawyers out there when a third party is injured or killed with the weapon that was stolen from your vehicle, to make it just a matter of time until some hapless owner is found just 10% at fault in a multi-million dollar precedence-creating civil suit. It doesn't even have to happen to you, personally. Once such a judgement is reached in one case in one state, watch your car and home liability insurance skyrocket for gun owners.

I live in Orlando, and my Dad lives in St. AUgustine Florida. He always kept his 357 revolver in the center console of his truck. One day he went to his truck, the door was unlocked, the contents of the car were everywhere and his Revolver was no where to be found. I Had been telling him for years not to leave his gun in there. The messed up part is the local Sheriffs office contaminated the scene and the fingerprints couldnt be taken off the property properly. My dad now has to call the ATF to get the serial numbers so the firearms can be placed in the NCIC as stolen. SO please, DO Not leave your firearms in the car, it really isnt smart. The gun shop my dad got his pistol from, closed down, and the gun is 30 years old.

You carry a gun on you. Using the car for "a gun purse" is not a good idea. Danger can confront you anywhere as you move around. When you are confronted, what are you going to do? Pull your gun and go to work or say, "Excuse me while I go get my gun from my car three blocks away."? Besides, a gun can be stolen from out of a car when you're not around it. No, carry your gun on you.

What's not very smart is failing to write down the serial numbers of your guns.

+1 on what crazy88 said, you could be liable if someone steals and uses your firearm, now i could see leaving it for an hour like he said but i would still be pnoid

I have dedicated car guns in each vehicle, all are locked up securely. Can they be stolen, sure... The thing is, I'm in medical sales so I can't legally carry anywhere really. I carry to and from hotels and if I'm walking in cities (not located in Illinois anyway).

Long story short, If I don't keep them in my car, I can't take them out of the house... Many of you guys take for granted a lifestyle that is conducive to CCDW. They are few and far between.
