Yep, pretty much. I'm not sure what you're getting at, though...are some of those things supposed to be mutually exclusive?
Not necessarily mutually exclusive, but more of a comment on people wanting their cake and eating it too.
Example: Person A is for the abolishment of all gun laws since the right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed", but they are for the war on drugs and think even people in possession of small amounts of marijuana should be charged and thrown in jail.
Person B thinks some gun laws are necessary and is for harsh punishments of criminals caught with guns. They also think the war on drugs is frivilous, a waste of time, and that certain drugs should just be taxed and sold and regulated like alcohol.
They both want the same things, but they have differing views on which thing is the right thing.
Let me explain my views and maybe it'll make more sense. I am for the legalization of drugs. I am against driving under the influence of anything.
I am for certain measures of gun control. I.E background checks for first time buyers. I am against gun violence on innocent victims.
I am for rules and regulations and law, but I am against invasion of privacy and tyranny.
I am for "the hard toe of a government boot" when people have shown they have no regard for the welfare of those they mistreat. I am against no-knock raids in the middle of the night on a quiet suburban home, because someone thinks they saw something "going on".
I am for smoking, but I am against doing it around those who wish not to smoke and those who cannot truly decide for themselves. To answer a previous post.
Hope maybe that clears up what I'm trying to relay a bit better.
