Crimson Trace Grips worth the money?

... Having a GPS in your car won't do you one bit of good if you don't know how to drive...

That is an excellent comparison, by the way. I also think that many folks are giving the hardware selction too much consideration and neglect the software, spell training. That is why my guns look used and my ammo bill is high.

For me a laser offers little advantage and is not worth it.

I hear they work great. But they're not for me, I won't depend on a light to protect my life. Learn how to shoot without them. A defence weapon should be shot without sights. What I've seen with laser sights is that most can't shoot without them. IMO that's very dangerous. But it's cool looking, so they sell.

I love my 92FS...Utterly reliable, accurate, smooth, great mag capacity.
Some say it is too big, but I find it to be just right for a HD pistol.

sake, i have a 1975 R series m-60 in 38spl. the ct,s have given me the confience to use my m-60 at longer than belly button range as my eyes don,t like looking at little biddy sights, and my sight picture is blurred even with trifocals. at 30 yrds i can hit the 100yrd size targets with out the ct,s. but with the ct,s all 5 the shots are in the center of the target. and thats enough for me. eastbank ps i change the batteries every year and never had a problem.

I'll tell you what a laser sights WILL do for you.

It will tell you to not get that super size cup of coffee before you go to the range!

"What we doing here?"

"Shooting in an earthquake!!!???"

"Am I having a seizure???":D

Amazing how much easier shooting becomes when you can see, isn't it, eastbank? ;-)

The sights were no use to me at all yesterday, though. My husband and I were out on BLM land. That's land owned by the U.S. federal government and managed by the "Bureau of Land Management" because it isn't part of a national park or forest, and isn't owned or used by some private entity. In Nevada, it's legal to go shooting on BLM land provided you are at least a mile (5000 ft, to be precise) from any occupied dwelling for rifiles, or 1000 feet for handguns and shotguns. It was a hot day with only a few clouds in the sky. The laser dot was invisible if I was more than about ten feet from it.

Of course, I don't *need* the laser dot in those conditions -- the metal sights work fine when I can see them. But I'll get some practice in sometime on a cloudy day and probably sometime after dark, as well. Out there, you're usually miles from anything and anybody but yourselves. It's a great place to train.

Don't leave home without it!

I have one on my Kimber cdp pro, and one on my Kahr MK-40. I believe that they could be the difference between life or death. They certainly won't make you a good shot, only practice will do that. However, watching the laser when you shoot or even dry fire will indicate to you whether or not you're moving the gun on your trigger pull. When you pull the trigger and the red dot doesn't move you can be assured you're on target. Target acquisition is almost immediate and you can fire from just about any position you're in.
Buy 'em!

Are Crimson Trace Grips worth the price?

Question by oneloudvous :

Are CT grips as good as they are made out to be? Worth $250?

Answer: How much is your life worth?

I'm not connected with CT in anyway, except, I own 9 sets of their grips. I wouldn't use a carry gun without CT grips, they work very well during hours of darkness and well enough in the daylight to make them worth every penny they cost.

Truthfully, I'm enough of a dinosaur myself that I'm not convinced that "daylight" is a problem that needs to be solved with a laser. Learn to shoot with iron sights, learn to pointshoot when you can't use those sights, learn to trust the laser in low light. Problem solved!

No argument from me!:) (Iron sights are cheaper too!)

My wife's got a pair on her S&W Chief's Spl .38 Spl. They work well, are visible at any time of day or night, indoors or out and she has confidence in them.

Like many women, she's not into shooting a lot. That means in reality, once or twice a year. She's good with her Smith and the grips improve her ability with it. In a combat, across the bedroom or for that matter, anywhere in the house, they give her an edge; in her opinion and in mine. And that, padnuh, is enough for me.

Regards, Rodfac

Laser sights

I go to our local range every Wednesday and shoot at lease two different kinds of handguns. I was on a pistol team while in the Air Force, stationed at Osan, Korea. I've worked for the state police as a trooper. I know how to shoot a handgun. A laser sight on a gun is just another tool to help you protect your life. If you have "seen with laser sights that most people can't shoot without them", you are watching the wrong movie...

I hear all this great stuff about how great Crimson trace's customer service is. I sent my laser in and they guaranteed me 3 day turn around. its been nearly a month. I called them and they would only state that they would not guarantee 3 days and that there policy was 3-5 days and that weekends don't count. I told them that was fine but even by there policy that they were more than 2 weeks behind schedule. they told me it was sent out 2 days ago. I called the next day and they said it would be mailed out in 2 days. I was understandably upset. they told me they would be at my house today. and its not here. I will never buy from them again

Get 'em! Buy 'em! And when you come to my place to mess with me, you can add one of my fired boolits to your collection of "cool" gun gadgetry. Learn to shoot. Period.

Yeah, regular joe, those US soldiers who are using CTC's in Iraq and Afghanistan and loving them are all wrong. You should go show them how to do it right.

I got CT grips last month for the 1911 I keep in my nightstand... took it to the range a few weeks ago, and can attest to their effectiveness. I don't think anyone's legitimately arguing that they make someone a better shooter in any way, or that they're any kind of substitute for training, practice, etc. It's just that every little bit helps, and so long as one doesn't rationalize them as a substitute for shooting ability, they can definitely be an asset in a tense situation where every advantage helps.

I know I'll keep a set on any handgun I might use for CC or HD from now on.

I found that they really helped with trigger control and made me a better shooter with or with out the laser. Don't knock'em if you haven't tried'em.

finally got mine back. its a top quality laser and nice to have when there working. like it or not no one can deny the usefulness of lasers. However I am firmly against CT. they make a great product but there customer support sucks. they promised me a 3 day turn around time and it took a month to get my grip back. comparatively I sent a laser back to lasermax and they said they could not quote me a time but that they would get it out as fast as they could. I got the laser max back in a week including shipping.

I added CT Laser Grips and Meprolite sights to my P229 two years ago. More recently I acquired a P228 and had the same changes made to it. In general I try to use my range time to practice specific skills and drills. For awhile, I practiced putting the beam on target and engaging as quickly as possible. While my center-of-mass hit rate was great, groups weren't so hot. Lately, practice has been more toward using both the sights and laser together. I find the lasers a great aid in refining the sight picture to achieve the group consistency I seek. I also know, too, that should the need arise, I can rely on the laser to get me on target quickly and reasonably accurately, whether strong hand or weak hand alone. I'm glad I added them.
