Carry options: PPQ, P-07 and/or P229

What should I do?

  • Stop being a baby and carry the PPQ, you won't shoot yourself...probably

  • Buy the P-07 with the intent of purchasing a P229 in the future

  • Buy the P229 now

I like SA/DA models better myself. I will say that my PPQ did change my mind about striker fired models but, I still don't carry it much. I prefer my HK P-30 which is laid out a lot like the PPQ except it's a DA/SA hammer gun.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices. I find the grip length of the 229 and P-07 just slightly to short for me. What was it you did not like about the Sig 2022? I find it's grip slightly to short for me as well.

If I want to make my decisions based on a poll, I have every right to. Last time I checked this was America and I can do whatever I want, but I digress.

I must have missed the part where someone said you didn't have the right to rely on the poll. You have the right to ingest dog feces, too. But that doesn't mean it's a rational or intelligent idea.

You must have monster hands! :D

The 229, P-07 and 2022 are perfect for my smallish hands.

Chances are you are going to get uncomfortable and ditch any of those three for a smaller CCW firearm. They are all good guns in their own way, but I sell a ton of full size guns to people starting off to conceal carrying, only for them to change their mind quickly. If you can afford multiple guns, great, its not a big deal, but if you can afford more than one right now, I would take another look and feel about a carry gun.

I am not saying they are or others are impossible to carry. I often carry a full size 1911, and used to carry a fullsize HK USP, just stating MOST of my customers end up switching for something smaller, easier to carry.

Canik c-55 if you want a steel version of the p-07. Love mine.

Not sure it would be comfortable to carry though due to weight. I was a dyed in the wool da/sa till I got my lc9s. Very nice trigger. Also has a slide lock safety which I like. Less chance of glock leg for me.

Canik 55 is hard to beat for around $350. Mine has fed everything I want. Jhp, fmj, steel, lead nose, aluminum cased. Zero issues thus far but only about 750 rounds.

If polymer suits you the P-07 is 100% a winner. I'd love to hear where your reliability concerns came from though... Have you ever shot one or seen a failure? If it's word of mouth who said it? Not in an accusatory way but just genuine curiosity as I've never heard a bad word on reliability, but also heard no "professional outside the czech republic" carries one.

I like both guns but for a carry role---P07 gets my vote.
What the world needs is a Mrgunsngear Youtube review of the P-07.

The masses are clamoring for it. Make it happen man!

Well I just bought a B-Series P-07 for $480 out the door. It should be here in a few days, I can't wait to take it out and compare it against the PPQ.

As far as where I heard about the reliability issues, google. That was probably my first problem. Thanks for everyone putting that myth to rest.

You can't get the P-07 as it's trailing in the poll to the Sig and PPQ!:) Just fooling around.

Let us know how you like both your P-07 and PPQ and how they compare to each other for you. You have two pretty good models.

Yeah, I plan on getting one in the near future.

The way I see it, the 229 will be my OWB piece and the P-07 IWB. Since the 229 is a fatty and the P-07 is much slimmer.

Add to that plans for some subcompact in the future for summer time clothing and I'll be all set.

Since Canik has been mentioned, have you thought about the TP9? It has a lot in common with the Walthers....but at half the price.

CZ is a good gun, as were all on the list, you'll like it.

As for Canik.... I can't believe people buy these for protection. You can get a used firearm from a reputable manufacturer known for being good overall.

I try not to skimp on something that I litterally count my life to, I don't mean any offence, I am sure people are happy with theirs, and for target fun I can't knock it, but I have gotten back too many with issues to ever take them seriously.

Canik is a clone of a clone, a Turkish copy of the Tanfoglio Force, (EAA Witness), CZ clone. Don't know much about them, but I carried a Tanfoglio without issue for years.
Congrats on the P-07, sir - might I suggest an excellent IWB holster, the High Noon Down under? Comes with a slide guard built in, and is made for the P-07.

Goes well with a Rock Steady Gun belt.

Spend good coin on good holster and belt, and no matter the size of the gun, it will be easy to carry - I've been concealing a full size pistol for years with little effort.

Bore axis is often overrated. It's only one of many aspects that make up a guns recoiling/muzzle flip characteristics. If all things were equal between two guns except for their bore axis heights, then it makes a bigger impact. All things being equal seldom happens though.

The bore axis height of the CZ P-07 and Walther PPQ are right about the same and only a little lower than the heavier Sig 229. Just because the CZ P-07 has a thin slide does not mean it has a super low bore axis. It's the relationship of the center of the bore to the height of the grip that defines the bore axis height. See Cyanide971's post #15 for an example and it looks like the Sig should go just a touch lower in Picture #2 to make their bore axis heights even closer.
