Ok so here's the dilemma, I don't know what the **** to do.

I'm waiting on my CHP permit to come in so I can pick up my PPQ M1 up from the dealer. Now, initial plan was to make that my EDC but my friend convinced me to go DA/SA.

I figure I'll just make the PPQ a dedicated range/HD gun.

So for CCW: I shot the SP2022, don't like it. I shot the CZ P-07 and love it. Amazing gun. It fits me and shoots great. Only thing that is turning me off is supposed reliability issues I've been reading about. I don't want a gun that is good for less than 20,000 rounds.

I held a P226 and it felt great, so I assume the P229 will feel amazing as well. Only issue is they're expensive as hell..so I was thinking maybe just get one in the future.

Help me out here, I'm lost.

There's a pretty significant weight difference between some of those options. Personally, I would learn to feel comfortable with the PPQ. Get a holster that covers the trigger guard and you'll be fine.

Also, ignore anyone who says that the P-07 only has a 20,000-round lifespan. That's completely absurd.

I just adore and CCW my PPQ.

While I have strong preference for SIG, HK, and Walther, the CZ P07 is a great pistol also and I would not worry about it as far as durability.

FYI there are a ton of great Certified Pre Owned P229s available usually though typically in .40 but I will say that the P229 shoots the .40 like most other pistols shoot 9MM and by far is my favorite .40 pistol.

ALSO - The Walther P99 AS is a poly frame striker fired pistol that is DA/SA without the hammer but it does have an indicator that is also tactile at the end of the pistol so the shooter can tell if the pistol is cocked or not or if the trigger is being moved when holstring. The PPQ is basically a P99 with just the SA trigger and slightly different grip texture and slide serrations.

Go with what works for you. Being able to hit your target and having confidence in what you shoot is extremely important.

I should also mention that being an active duty Marine owning and training with a da/sa type handgun will help to keep me profficient with the Beretta 92 as well, our sidearm of choice.

But, I am still looking forward to all of your opinions. There are some very knowledgeable people on here from what I have seen.

I carry a P226 and have never looked back, I own many handguns and the sig is what I'd put my life behind no question. I personally just don't like striker fired. A LEO veteran just recently shot himself with one and that simply doesn't happen when you can thumb the hammer on draw and holster. The ppq probably won't shoot you in the leg, but plenty of highly trained professionals have inadvertently done so (with many different weapons though, ofc).

The weight advantage of the P-07 is certainly real however, so if you care about weight it might be a better choice. My P226 hasn't been a problem, though. I've got a CZ of my own (75BD) and it's absolutely fantastic so I think your reliability concerns might be overstated. I'd trust my CZ, but the Sig has the edge ATM in my eyes.

Also true DA/SA is point and shoot. You won't fumble a safety racking your slide or fail to have a hand free to disengage your safety in a grapple situation. I'd not want to risk fumbling perhaps awkwardly to disengage my safety in a melee (off handed perhaps), I wouldn't want to draw first and be the aggressor to guarantee two free hands, and I wouldn't want to carry a striker fired gun without a safety. There's a reason Glocks don't have a safety, and I suspect the pricetag is why police choose glocks over mk25 P226s.

P229 is just a shorter P226, and I'd carry a 229 if that's what I had found a good deal on instead of the 226 I referred to so often in my post.

You could get a Walther P99AS if you like the PPQ. It's practically identical to the PPQ, but with a DA/SA trigger (and minor aesthetic differences). Personally, I feel it is a better trigger system for carry. It may be the one striker-fired pistol out there that actually has a better trigger feel than the PPQ.

It also shares mags with the PPQ M1, so that's a plus for you.

Where did you hear about the reliability concerns of the p07 and how they don't last 20,000 rounds? I've only heard great things about them.

I would hazard a guess that the P-07 will outlast you. :) The newer ones with the P-09 upgrades are especially awesome. Add in some Cajun Gun Works goodness, and the nirvana shall flow. Now admittedly, I am a bit of a CZ fan, but I've a little practical experience with them.;)
The SiG is a damn good sidearm, but pricey. The PPQ I know absolutely nothing about and absolutely unqualified to issue any opinion on it. :(

Apologies for subjecting you to the consequences of my obsessive-compulsiveness, but I just need to say that it's "SIG," not "SiG." I think some people remember MiG aircraft and import the same case pattern for the writing of "SIG."

If I can help bring an end to this practice, I will have done humanity a great service.

Interesting. It seems I was wrong about the P-07.

Unfortunately at this point the poll is a dead tie which doesn't help me much. I figure a little more time will fix that, but to be honest I'm leaning towards the P-07 with the 229 being a future purchase. It just fit me so dam well.

Of those choices I SAID go with the P-07. Superior carry gun to the 229 (IMO) because it is just slightly smaller and carries a TON easier, at least in my experience. I also much prefer the CZ Omega trigger to the Sig triggers I've owned (225, 220, 229, 250... shot the 2022 and 226 quite a bit).

OR

Just carry the PPQ, you're gonna be fine carrying a striker fired if you just pay attention to trigger discipline when you holster (which you need to do anyway). Before buying another, carry for awhile with the striker "cocked" (or however exactly the PPQ works, I don't have one) and an empty chamber. You'll quickly realize its no big deal. I did the same when I was nervous about carrying Glocks and quickly solved that fear.

Finally my CZ P-07 is a very solid gun, dead reliable, accurate and well made. It carries very well and has replaced my Glock 19/23 as my EDC.

Do you really plan to put meaningful weight on the results of a poll of a handful of strangers with preferences (and prejudices) possibly completely different from your own? I mean, evaluate the different suggestions you read according to your own criteria, but putting weight on the numerical results of the poll in your buying decision is rather absurd.

but to be honest I'm leaning towards the P-07 with the 229 being a future purchase. It just fit me so dam well.

So do that. Why on earth should the poll results outweigh this inclination in any way?

TheeAntic, TIFWIW, but here's several not-so-great comparison shots of a P229 and P-07 I did for a friend who had a similar question several weeks ago.

Love the P-07. Haven't heard anything negative about it's durability or reliability either. I think it's a contender in near any arena. If it was a fit when you tried it and you like it then buy it without worries. After you get some trigger time on it you'll only like it more.

If I want to make my decisions based on a poll, I have every right to. Last time I checked this was America and I can do whatever I want, but I digress.

I actually expected the poll to favor carrying the PPQ, but I am glad it didn't. My permit came in today so I was able to pick it up and take a closer look. It's almost too nice to carry. The trigger is sublime. I love it. BUT. I still feel like carrying DA/SA.

I'm going to be purchasing the P-07 and let CGW give it their pro package once I get a P229. Enhanced Elite with SRT and E2 grips runs me $~850 IOP pricing so they'll be worth just about the same. It will be fun to see which one comes out on top.

This forum has proved to be extremely helpful, and I thank everyone here. - Brian
