Carry at Home

On two occasions, I've looked out the window to see LEOs with guns drawn wandering carefully among the houses. The first time it turned out to be an escaped con that they later found hiding under a shed. The second time turned out to be a false alarm, but I didn't know that at the time.

In both cases, I slipped my .38 snubbie in my pants pocket, locked the doors, and stayed in the house. I don't think I was being paranoid, just being careful.

I have a loaded Colt King Cobra .357 and some extra rounds loose in a kitchen drawer for something that might happen before I could get back to my bedroom where my Para Ordnance P14 and Remington 870 Police Magnum wait patiently. My teenage daughter has an XD-40 in her room as another option.

I also have a SOG fixed blade easily accessible by where I watch T.V.

Anyone else have a knife stashed for just such an occasion?

I would take my time fetching a firearm if a problem invaded my home. Let the dogs really get to know their new chew-toy.

Depends on how paranoid I am, anyway, why? What have they been saying about me THIS time? No, really, you can tell ME!

As I read some of the posts here I find myself wondering" what kind of world do these people live in?" I have a 12 ga loaded with #7 for the first two and 00 for the next three. It is in my bedroom closet. In my nightstand I have a 10" dagger. All of the rest including my .22 pistol and my .50 Muzzleloader are in my safe.:)

Why on Earth would I carry a gun in my own house? No one I know of has had a home invasion, and none have happened in my part of town. I know that BGs do exist, and that no one is exempt from being a crime victim. But, a reasonable and prudent man has nothing to fear in his own house. I will not live in a state of fear, and I will not allow fear to dictate my life.:D

If I am at home and need to defend myself, I'm sure I can reach the shotgun in time. If I can't, well then a kitchen knife or a 3 lb hammer will have to do. Those of you who carry at home enjoy your paranoia.

do you have a spare tire in your car every day, or do you put in the trunk when you know you are going to get a flat tire?

well...

But bad sh*t happens even in the best neighborhoods. I carry at home after 2 or 3 burglaries and multiple counts of neighbor's vicious dogs.

Sounds like you're pretty well stocked for HI situations.

Why on Earth would I carry a gun in my own house?

In case some thieving sack of sh*t happens to decide they want your stuff. My dad and I only started carrying after the second burglary. After the first one, my parents still had decided I was too young for a pistol. Second one, they changed their mind because I was home. Third one was met with twin Benelli shotguns and a Remington model 710 30-06. It asn't happened since.

The "reasonable and prudent man" can watch the news and see the sad state of our society and realize that protecting one's own family takes priority over looking a little paranoid. I do not live in fear, I live in reality. I am not afraid of someone breaking in again, but I will not allow them to get very far if it happens again. We have taken every security precaution for our home, but that doesn't mean the guns are locked up where we cannot access them.

If I am at home and need to defend myself, I'm sure I can reach the shotgun in time. If I can't, well then a kitchen knife or a 3 lb hammer will have to do. Those of you who carry at home enjoy your paranoia
.

I wouldn't stake a kitchen knife or even my throwers against a gun. Good luck with that. Again, it's not paranoia to carry at home.

In response to the question.
1. I carry my girlfriend around or my little brother.
2. I carry to dissuade unscrupulous persons from taking my things, my life, my freedom, my family's lives, etc. away. Also, it is a force of habit to carry. Same ol' "pants on, gun's on" thing.
3. On meI usually have my little Cobra .380. or my dad's S&W .38. I also have quick access, from 4 different gun safes, an assortment of shotguns and rifles from .410 and .22 all the way to 10-ga.and .308. Let's not forget the 2 compound and 1 crossbow that I keep for deer. Also, there is always a gun or knife in arm's reach at home. The dogs help too.

Who? Just me. Wife doesn't like those evil guns unless she absolutely has to use one.

Why? For several different reasons. Last November, Arlington and Irving PD was serving an arrest warrant for two armed robbers. During the preperations, one of them fled. As he did, he tried to get into other apartments, including ours. I always keep the door locked so it wasn't a big deal, but just the thought that someone would be that bold. Other reasons include the thug-wannabes that live in my complex with their unruly pitbulls and coyotes.

What? HK P2000SK in an OWB or a Kimber Compact II in a shoulder rig.

I don't carry in my apartment, but I keep it close by at all times.
My apartment complex is little on the "shady" side.

I am always armed. My little Kel-Tec .380 makes that easy to pull off. If I have clothing on, it's in my right front pocket.

As far as why one would want to carry in his own home, let me relate a true story which happened not far from me. There were two inmates in the state pen who were due to be released soon. They got information from a third inmate about how the residents at a certain address were wealthy and always kept large amounts of cash on the premises. After their release, the two bad guys kicked in the door one evening about suppertime, on the home where a 50 something man lived with his 70 something mother. It was the wrong address. The two tortured and killed the mother trying to get her to reveal where the money was hidden. Then they taped a garbage bag around the son's head and suffocated him, dumping his body miles away.

I don't go around afraid, not even a little, but I spent 30 years getting my nose rubbed in all the vile stuff man does to his fellow man. Rarely is one of those acts preceded by a declaration of evil intent from the aggressor and they happen with much more frequency than most people notice. Being prepared, as much as possible, for unforseen catastrophe is why we have all the various insurance policies we carry. I consider my pocket gun as my home invasion insurance policy.(No deductable)

I don't carry at home for the most part. I may come home and not imediately disarm, but thinking about home invasions. If the door bell rang, who's to say they aren't there do do you harm......

I might have to rethink my home carry policy....

I am not afraid or paranoid. I barley notice that I am carrying. I live in a neighborhood of 6 - 9 $100K single family homes in a lovely downtown. Strangely enough, break-ins still happen both at night and during the day. Once someone is in the house, it is a little late to find a way to protect the family.

And yes, there is a spare tire in the trunk of each of our cars/truck, and they are up to pressure and have good tread on them. I even check the pressure monthly or so.

When I was around 12 years old, playing outside of my parent's house, I remember a man running through the neighborhood being chased by 3 others. He ran to a neighbor's house across the street (who happened to be out of town) and began banging on the front door screaming, "Mother!! Mother!!!". Next thing, he threw his shoulder into the door and made it inside before the three other men caught up. They stayed outside. Another neighbor (off duty officer) came outside to investigate. He called the police who arrived, went inside, and brought out the lunatic in cuffs. Come to find out he had overdosed on his favorite drugs.

Nowadays even though I live in a much nicer neighborhood I still realize how quickly the unexpected can happen. While I don't keep a pistol strapped to me at all times I do have several placed around the house such that I would have access to at least one without being blocked off from all if someone were to smash through a door, window, wall, whatever.

Carrying around the house has nothing to do with fear or paranoia. It's just a routine like puttin on underwear. You must not carry much if at all or you'd realize this. From your perspective of not carrying, it probably does sound paranoid. For those of us who do, it's just routine. I know 2 different people who have had home invasions, but that did not sway me to carry at home...I already was carrying at home.

Several years ago in Haywood county N.C. an area called Rabbit Skin, not on any map just a wide spot in the road. Two badguys needed another car and found the area by the car they were driving broke down near there. They stole 1 car that was on empty came back stole another car and killed several members of a family for no reason. There was no crime in Rabbit Skin, no gangs, no mob, drug lords, just some framers, retirees, and a few vacationers, a few factory workers. It happened there it can happen any where.

PTR 91,

Not to be rude but you don't know crap about where I live. Just for the record, I live in a quite little town in eastern TN. Just a few years ago there was a murder of 3 young black people just down the road from us a piece, they called it the valentines day massacre. Took them 10 years to figure out the survivor was involved.

There have been home invasions local, and since it is MY right to carry when and where I see fit your opinion that I should move doesn't hold a lot of water. :barf::barf::barf:

I was here before the crap moved in and I'll be here when they have moved on or screwed up and tried their crap on me.
