Brands to stay away from??

I love the Raven 25 auto!! I had a crazy x wife point one at my head and pull the trigger! thank God it was'nt a S&W!!!
OH AND THE COPS SAID THEY COULD'NT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT MISSFIRED!! ( Pasadena Texas )

Did she provide the required 24 hours notice to police before doing so, Grant D? But pretty sure that's still attemptedmurder?

But, uh, was that a vote for or against the raven?

Very funny!!
I could'nt believe they would'nt do anything! I told them if it went off I would'nt have been able to call them. But that's Texas I guess.

I have a horrible experience with my Sig too. I can't go shoot it everyday! lol

Justagirl, not saying run out and buy it, but I don't think you'd get many people saying the little Rugers anything but good. If you liked it you may want to look into that line more seriously. Buy a couple of bricks of .22 ammo and go back to your friends house, I bet they would be more than happy to let you shoot more if you show up with a bunch of ammo for them to shoot too :D

It's an idea. I don't think they are very expensive. I probably only shot it 10 times or so. Since the ammo is cheap that might be a good idea - and then also get another more powerful pistol in the near future after I get decent with the first one.

Sigcurious: Glad you've had a better experience with Sig than I did. You can't shoot yours every day; I can't trust mine to not have function-critical parts self-destruct while the gun is in use...which has happened on two separate occasions. Just recently, it also happened to a colleague of mine while on our department's range, same part breaking in half [trigger reset spring].

Whatever happened to that Skunk-guy who hated Sigs?

God did he hates Sigs!

It's like Conrad Neher and Heinrich Moser must of taken turns shooting his dog with a Sig pistol or something.

I miss that guy,,,

That's interesting...basically 2 guns in 1? What is an example of a gun that will shoot both .22 and something more powerful? Thanks!

I've purchased a very fine pistol, a SIG P226, and with the addition of two extra slides and three extra barrels (the .357SIG & .40S&W use the same slide and magazines) I have one pistol in four calibers. .22lr, 9mm, .357SIG and .40S&W. All in one case, very handy.

I think it would be a choice weapon if your cousins were being attacked by Ligers and Wolverines in Alaska.

Sorry, I could not resist LOL.:D

If possible, go to a range and rent some guns that feel good in your hand.

If you are like me and literally have NO ranges in a feasible area that rent guns.....then good luck.

I lucked out. I started with a hi-point C9 for $100. Great gun for the price but it would NEVER be a carry gun for me. So i figured this: If I could find a gun that fit my hand, fired a decent caliber for me (9mm or above), AND was fairly well known for reliability then I could bring my self to buy it.

I did my research by striking up conversations at the range. "Oh what gun is that?", "How well does that gun feed for you?", etc. You would be surprised at how many people at the range would be more than willing to show off their pride and joy by letting you shoot it. That is how I discovered the Smith and Wesson all steel semi-autos (On that note, if you are willing to carry a little extra weight a S&W 5906 would be a good 9mm to start with;))

ANYWHO, the best gun is the one that fits you and your preference. If you follow any advice follow this:
FIRE AS MANY GUNS AND AS MANY CALIBERS AS YOU CAN BEFORE MAKING YOUR FIRST SD/HD/EXPENSIVE GUN PURCHASE!!!

Good hunting!

:D

I think one should avoid all makes and models of guns entirely. They all cost too much and make way too much noise. And we all know that possessing firearms makes people more violent and dangerous.

;)

Hi again! Haven't been on here in forever. I did actually get a handgun...finally! I got a Glock 19. I haven't shot it a TON, but I've gotten plenty of practice with it and it's a lot of fun to shoot! :)
